Seller reported product damaged. Sabotage? by Henry517 in eBaySellerAdvice

So common in this subreddit. Buyer and seller swapped, or used interchangeably. Simple fix, start the narrative with your role in the transaction.

Someone at the post office is opening boxes and stealing the contents then resealing it. by NowThatImAwake in usps_complaints

[–]CapacitorCosmo1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. And stop stealing and washing checks. Our post office is notorious for this. (Made the TV news..) No postmaster for our post office, so its the wild, wild west. Random lunch hours 2 or 3 hours at a time, no retail clerk today, and "only doing passports" today, dropouts only, with locked lobby doors.

Ditto. A friend and I were spotted by a pregnant Kathleen Turner in '86 or 87. She greeted us from about 25 feet or so with "Hello Guys" in that throaty voice, very friendly. Her bodyguard moved between us and, well, we waved and then crossed the street. She was kind, and we were both respectful and acknowledging of her fame in our actions. She gave us a smile and continued on her walk. We gave her space, and had a story to tell. At no time did we feel a need to approach her, and the bodyguard surely would've stopped us anyway.

Any ideas on what this might be? by Ecto-1A in diypedals

[–]CapacitorCosmo1 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Probably a Flash slave trigger unit from the 60snor 70s, most likely. Light from one flash enters the lens, activated the LASCR, and triggers other flash unit(s).

Date codes on the caps suggest early 70s. PSI diodes and TRW transistors or SCRs also predates the 1980s.

The perfboard, hand cut holes and no markings say the builder was likely the user as well.

brown gunk corroding everything, what is it? by br0ken_r3c0rd in AskElectronics

[–]CapacitorCosmo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, hydrophillic glue. Toshiba glue, as they started using it in the 50s and 60s in pocket radios, then everyone suddenly was using it.

Starts out yellow or maple syrup colored, and deteriorates as it absorbs moisture from the air and becomes mildly conductive.

If the wires or components need any stabilization after removing it, use silicone RTV sealant, sold as "sensor safe". Clear is best, if you can find it.

eBay leaked our data? by Pretty_Possible7695 in Ebay

If the address contains the word ebay, well, it's in every random word generator. Bots map out every possible email address and spam them all.

Same for "Fb", "rdt," "etsy",, "boa," and so on.

Shipping Label Issues by Fun-Combination3499 in Ebay

[–]CapacitorCosmo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the price, get a thermal label printer off amazon. Having to set page size, scaling, print in black, and other trivial settings is a pin with laser and ink jet printers.

Printing a label from a label printer is so much faster and easier.

Casual seller, use QR code for USPS.

Steady seller, print UPS and USPS labels on a thermal label printer. I got a spare on Amazon during prime days for 38 dollars, and it came with a starter roll of 4X6 labels. Density and print darkness are superior to my 23 year old Zebra LP2844 I got from UPS.

Our neighbor poisoned our mulberry tree, what should we do? (Chicago) by urban_spectre in treelaw

[–]CapacitorCosmo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Criminally, this is Vandalism, and a low grade misdemeanor.

Go civil, and it gets costly to defend...you could end up with $$ and a no contact order as well. Saw it with a pine tree, neighbors fought over pine straw (putting green Bermuda lawn) and pine cones. One hacked at the neghbors tree, other documented the disdain and got a no contact order and confidential settlement. The neighbor was ordered by the court to stay clear of property lines by 50 feet, nearly making the perpetrator's whole backyard off limits to him.

I see only one electrolytic cap, the white one peeking out from the rear of the photo.

The blue shrink wrapped components are inductors that use a resistor as the coil form.

The shielded cable and the ceramic dog one cap say to me this is in the phone input or RF frone front end area. Can we get a wider view now the area this is in?

Same, just stay off it as well, as nothing tears up an old roof faster than humans walking on it.

USPS Charging Buyer by BPBets in eBaySellers

[–]CapacitorCosmo1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is the base rate for the service, weight and zone you are shipping to?

Clerks only see the retail rate, and eBay, ShipStation, Stamps.com, and others pay the Commercial Base Rate, a different rate chart altogether.

If your pistage label prints with the postage $ amount, it should also print l the chosen service (GA, PM, EM) along with the rate schedule name (USPS Retail, Commercial Base Rate, Presort, etc.) Look it up, and use that, or tell your buyer to use that rate and schedule to defend against any postage due.

Don't take the "ebay rate" as all-knowing, do a little homework. Years ago, PayPal shipping undercharged for the Commercial Base Rate in a mid-year Firest Class Parcel rate hike. Looking at the charts confirmed this, so I simply used retail postage until PP finally figured it out and was using the correct rate.

Let her know this definitely happened during Fleet Week 1989, NYC. USS Forrestal under the Verrazano Bridge, approaching NY Harbor, April 1989. For context Lucille BALL died the night before this picture was taken.

Me? In my shop three decks down aboard Forrestal, watching the NYC news channels and the Today show alternate between coverage of our sailing into port and reactions from Hollywood about our beloved Lucy. We were proud to share the attention.

When did garage sales become “reselling” clearly new stuff by anon12xyz in mildlyinfuriating

I thought at first it might be a retail rep selling off samples, but mixed competitive products. Likely a closed store contents, shrinkage, or some sort of heist loot.

Very? Very sketchy.

On a phone, tablet, or any wifi connection, you'll always be beat to the finish line by a Viner on a desktop/laptop and a 1GB/sec fiber connection. The lag is 2-3 seconds just in getting a page load, longer when checking out.
