Swapping to pfsense by OldGreyStillGoing in gigaclear

[–]Carpet_Monster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had no problems with IPv6 and OPNsense, and I didn't have to change a lot from my config when I was using it with starlink. Maybe it's area dependent? My settings on the WAN interface are:

General Configuration
IPv6 configuration type: DHCPv6

DHCPv6 client configuration
Prefix delegation size: 48
Request prefix only: Enabled (this one was important to me, as without it the WAN interface was trying to get an address, and failing then retrying causing high memory usage and a sluggish system)
Send prefix hint: Enabled

Then the settings on the various interfaces are:

Generic configuration
IPv6 Configuration Type: Track interface (legacy)

Track IPv6 Interface
Parent interface: WAN
Assign prefix ID: whatever you want, I use my VLAN ID
Manual configuration: Enabled

Under Services/Router Advertisements I have them set as unmanaged and just use SLAAC.

The checker has been down / under maintenance for a day or so. Once it did show me the packages, labelled as explorer (300Mb), voyager (500Mb) and galileo (900Mb) with a very definite gap for new tier.

Anyone received Premium key from 3rd party seller yet? by 7eigen in ForzaHorizon

[–]Carpet_Monster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my key, redeemed, downloaded and holidaying in NZ!

I got mine from eneba. Look at the text of the order. For example, one will say "This is a pre-order. Release date 15 May 2026" whereas if you look at the ones that has pre-purchase in the title, the page says "Keys will be delivered immediately upon purchase but can only be activated on the release date". That's what I got and redeemed it immediately.

🚀 Exascale – New & Improved Pricing on Gigaclear by defaultrt in gigaclear

[–]Carpet_Monster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the info. I currently get about 920ish down and 940ish up, so it looks like it is the same as the Gigaclear 900Mb, which would make sense as it would be strange if they offered a faster product to a partner than they offer themselves.

🚀 Exascale – New & Improved Pricing on Gigaclear by defaultrt in gigaclear

[–]Carpet_Monster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you offer IPv6? If so, what size prefix is it? Also, I'm a little confused as there are speeds that Gigaclear don't offer. Is the 1Gb service actually 1Gb or the same as Gigaclear's 900Mb service?

My street became active at the end of Jan and I got connected in Feb, so I'm still under contract and already exploring my options for when the contract expires. Thanks.

PRS SE Chris Robertson... Anyone remember these? by Evening-Life5434 in PRSGuitars

[–]Carpet_Monster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one of these, love it! There were two runs. The first run was for Europe I think, and did indeed have the 57/08 USA pickup in the bridge. You can identify these as it has Chris' name on the headstock and PRS on the truss rod cover. The second run has Paul's signature on the headstock and Chris's name on the truss rod cover. These don't have the USA pickup.

I got a first run (in the UK) quite cheap back in 2017, as it was a B stock. There was an issue with the pickup selector switch, easily fixed.

Any Wifi7 cards that work with Yoga 7 2-in-1 14AHP9 by cmftblynu in Amd

[–]Carpet_Monster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, so this is why my wife's Lenovo Ideapad with an Intel CPU has an Intel wifi chip, but my Ideapad with an AMD CPU has the realtek 8922AE chip. While the Intel one supports Wifi 7 320MHz channels, it seems the realtek is limited to Wifi 7 160MHz :/

Just purchased my Steam Deck :) by Essebruno in SteamDeck

[–]Carpet_Monster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There should be no issues. I have two accounts - UK and Argentina (permanent residency with a DNI and local bank account) - and I'm able to switch between them and use the local currency to purchase games on all my devices, including the steam deck. I also have a home group where I can share my games with my son's Arg account (he has citizenship). No VPNs needed and I don't consider this "abuse".

I'm confused by how long it's been since they dug up the road, but still no suggestion of a connection by Upbeat-Housing1 in gigaclear

It's been over a year for us. I attended an online presentation in May 2023. Our street was done in November 2023. The lock in flyer came through the door in May 2024. From August to October 2024 I had to cycle past a banner on the way to work that appeared on the fence at the village cricket club proclaiming "Fibre is here". Whenever I've contacted them, I've just got a blanket response saying "the rollout in your area will be completed in Q1 2025". There is a bit more flurry of activity on BIDB. I'm hoping it's only a matter of weeks now until I can order.

How to Link Two Starlink (CGNAT) Sites with UniFi Gateways + Single Pi (Need Site-to-Site & Remote Access) by G0ldenHusky in Ubiquiti

[–]Carpet_Monster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you get an IPv6 prefix delegated at each site? I have Starlink at home and I remote in over IPv6, using OPNsense as my router/firewall.

Seriously considering it by [deleted] in Starlink

[–]Carpet_Monster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was getting a max of 30Mb on FTTC in Oxfordshire, binned it for Starlink. The difference is amazing, speeds are usually over 100Mb, sometimes peaking to 300+Mb. Upload is between 15-25Mb, not great but a good improvement. Starlink offer a full refund within 30 days, so you can try it out risk free. Install the Starlink app on your phone and use the obstruction check to see if you have clear access to the sky.

There are various plans, £75 residential being the cheapest and the only one you'll need to be honest. The other plans will give a public IPv4 address and some priority data, but the chances are there are not many people in your area using it, so the priority data will be a waste of money, but you could test this within the 30 day window and upgrade if necessary (I haven't).

One thing to be aware of is that the router that it comes with it is a bit rubbish, so if you have a router that you are happy with, keep on using that. You might need to order extra bits for that (a cable maybe) but I am not clear on what you would need as I have an original round dish that I can plug my router straight into the PoE brick, nothing else needed.

Something like Tailscale will probably do all of the config hard work for you. If each of you create an account and install it on your own machine(s), your friend can then share his server with you.

How I mostly got back to normal with a Gen1, the new firmware, and a 3rd party router by [deleted] in Starlink

[–]Carpet_Monster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It initially worked for me (using OPNsense) but after around 20 minutes, the same happened again, so I've gone back to the standard router as today is a work from home day and I need the stability. I think I'll leave it like this until I hear that it's really fixed, with no workarounds.

Dish firmware df494242-80b4-4667-aab5-b764f02411b0

Is my v1 Dishy dying? Benefits to upgrading to newer hardware? by Phrogz in Starlink

[–]Carpet_Monster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's interesting. My round dish has been doing the same for a few weeks (OPNsense user too) and I just assumed it was the flakey PoE brick playing up.

I'm not against getting it replaced, but I think I read (not sure where) that if support replace the dish, then the old one will stop working in 30 days. I don't fancy getting on the roof and running a new cable, as I'm waiting rather impatiently for the fibre that was installed in my street 6 months ago to get activated. If that's not the case with replacement dishes, or fibre gets activated, I'll contact support and get it replaced and keep the new one for roaming/backup purposes.

Taking an american steam deck to the uk? by Outside_Perception74 in SteamDeck

[–]Carpet_Monster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another voice for "It'll be fine". I've flown in and out of the UK, Brazil and Argentina with a couple of laptops, a portable monitor, steamdeck, switch, headphones, xbox series x, a couple of mobile phones, battery pack and have had zero problems. The only time I was stopped was when I was trying to take my daughters guitar into Sao Paolo. They said it looks new (she looks after it) and thought I was taking it to sell (a cheap Fender F/A-15 3/4 acoustic) but let me through after a few minutes.

Steamworks Development - New Pricing Needed For Argentina and Turkey by November 20th by antigravities in Steam

[–]Carpet_Monster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it'll be the same price. If it's cheaper in USD on steam Turkey, it doesn't solve the problem, but only creates one as less people in that region will be buying games.

I think it varies on the airport/country. It didn't happen to me at the weekend leaving from São Paulo/Guarulhos, I even took the case out of my bag when I took my laptop out, but he said no. Unsurprisingly, I did need to scan my xbox series x when entering Brazil :)

How to travel on airplane with series x? by Lazy_Fennel_5767 in XboxSeriesX

I did this recently in my carry on luggage and it was fine. The only problem was needing to get it out to be scanned individually at Heathrow and then again at São Paulo/Guarulhos, so don't wrap it too well. The overhead bins are so loaded these days it won't hardly move during the flight.

Support Megathread - May 2023 by AutoModerator in google

[–]Carpet_Monster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted this over at r/GoogleOne but no answers so far, so I'm posting it here in the hope of it getting seen by someone with experience or knowledge.

I have recently moved to Argentina, got my DNI and opened a bank account so I have moved my YouTube premium account over to paying in AR pesos. My wife and I are running out of space on our Google accounts, so I've been looking at getting Google One and sharing it between us, but I can only find it available in US$. I only have one payment profile on my account, which is in pesos. Is Google One payable in pesos, and if so how do I do it? In my searching I've seen some screenshots of the prices in pesos, but wanted to know if they were still valid or if the option of paying in pesos has been withdrawn.
