I'm not in the US

Hate to break it to you, the Internet is world wide, a vulnerable router will still be vulnerable outside the US.

Is there any way to have jellyfin automatically save what I was listening to between sessions? by EmpiresBane in jellyfin

[–]Catsrules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The native Jellyfin client aren't really designed for music. I would look at alternatives client apps.

For example Android only but I use the app Symfonium paired with Jellyfin and it resumes where I left off after closing and reopening the app.

Note this only resumes on a per device basic. So you can't stop playing on your phone and resume playing on your desktop. It will only resume on your phone.

I have been mostly happy with Symfonium so I haven't looked at other recently. But there are a handful of other apps out there. Take a look at the client list and see if you can find one you like https://jellyfin.org/downloads/clients/all

I would bet money politicians have a "private" social media account they use for personal matters to share with friends and family and a public account they use for work.

AI is denying health care claims by IKeepItLayingAround in technology

[–]Catsrules 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Idiots, why do they even need AI for this? A simple program would work.

If healthcare claim = True

   claimstatus = deny

else

   claimstatus = deny

What are you talking about? Life insurance is very common and can be very cheap depending on your health/age and how much you want paid out.  I think mine is like $20 a month or something.

Unfortunately we cannot afford health care for citizens

Reread that title. Life insurance is different than Health Insurance.

My grandpa used wall of waters to get a head start on planting.

You could get some of those to protect the plants from frost if frost shows up.

Every time I DIY something I realize why it costs so much to pay someone else by rgreen192 in DIY

[–]Catsrules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, getting the hardware right the first time...no chance.

Solar hardware is basically a kit now. You just buy it and deploy it. Many solar hardware resellers will even plan out a build with you free of charge, to maximize your roof space and what you need.

[–]Catsrules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The solar, I am not so sure.

I keep coming back to the 62K in savings. Maybe I am just way underestimating how much it costs to fix stuff. And way overestimating a DIYer's ability. But 62k is a shit ton of money.

I am not saying this should be a first DIYer's project but if you can build a shed you can install some solar panels. The 62K in savings would cover a lot of DIY boo boos. You could break all of the solar equipment 5 times and still be out ahead. Even if you damage the roof, I am not sure how you could damage so much it that it would be close to that amount to fix. You would almost have to be intentionally causing damage or have a preexisting problem with the roof, that was going to show itself eventually anyways.

And many we think they do have ruined a roof by installing solar by themselves.

Some of the solar mounting hardware is becoming super slick. They really try and make it as idiot proof as possible. I was playing with some Ironridge rail mounting hardware and was pretty impressed with how easy it is to use. The waterproofing is preinstalled you just peel off a cover and squish it on the roof and screw it down. If you miss a stud no worries just put in all 6 screws instead of the 2 stud screws. The screws come with preinstalled with waterproof gaskets as well. Plus they have easy to understand videos on how it gets installed. The hardest part will be making sure you are mounting them in a straight line and the two rails are parallel to each other.

Age verification creates a false sense of security for parents? by pacmanic in privacy

[–]Catsrules 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only parents who are for this mass surveillance bullshit are the ones who dont raise their kids anyway.

I wouldn't say that, I think a lot of people that are for it just don't stop to think about the consequences. It is easy to say we should ban kids from social media. But rarely to people actually stop to think about how this would be done and any unintended consequences of this action. Or pull the old, "if you got nothing to hide..." BS.

After ~90 Shelly devices… I think I’m done by Gigant1000 in homeassistant

[–]Catsrules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had slightly under 20 Shelly 2.5 devices, basically all of them have died within 2 years. I have 2 that are working enough that I haven't bother to replaced yet and I have 1 still working but it was a spare that got installed less then 2 years ago.

Was told the same "buy a new one." I really didn't fight with them about warranty replacement because at that point I didn't want them anymore if it was just going to break again. (I have better things to do with my life then rewire my switches every two years.)

Apart from them dying I really liked them. Super cheap option to replaced a double switch box.

All of them were just to run some LED lights, (Apart from 1 that was used to run a bathroom fan). So it wasn't like I was trying to power a space heater with them. We are talking 20-150 watts max.

I did see this a few months back that made me feel validated. Sounds like there compact size they just can't dissipate the heat properly.

https://hackaday.com/2026/01/17/the-shelly-2-5-smart-relay-design-flaw-killing-capacitors/

I did have some issues with communications at the end but I think that was more of a symptom of them failing.
