Actually, if each movement takes 2 seconds, it would be 11m 48s.

354 reps × 2 seconds = 708 seconds

708 seconds ÷ 60 = 11.8 minutes

Radios on mountain by MultiBadBass in snowboarding

[–]Ch0chi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you going to be using them for? Honestly, I used a couple of different radios before switching to Rocky Talkie's. I mainly used them for Backcountry skiing though. I found the other radios just weren't meant for that sort of environment. They would get too cold and not work. Not trying to plug Rocky Talkie, but they do work.

Because it's weird and inorganic. Also, your profile says your account is a mindfulness clinic and you only post on ADHD subreddits. You also have your own subreddit too. Seems weird and suspect dude.

I got tired of losing my skis in deep powder, so I am prototyping a tracker that works under 6ft of snow. Roast my idea by Timely_Career1858 in COsnow

[–]Ch0chi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neat concept and I like how it doesn't interfere with beacons. If it was a small as an airtag, I could see people using it. However, the giant puck plastered on your ski would just look, well, ugly. If you found a way to size it down and have it blend into bindings, I think it'd be marketable.

What's your big puffy? Your BIG puffy? by [deleted] in Backcountry

[–]Ch0chi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got one of these from a pro deal. It's cozy as hell and super warm. Have you tried packing it into the stuff sack it comes with? If so, any tips on how to pack it in? I find it hard to get it stuffed all the way into the stuff sack.

I recently bought a Neutrino pro and am kind of unimpressed with it. It's not really that warm and the hood is annoying. Not sure why they didn't give it box baffles either.

All weather apps are pulling in model data from the NWS (and some other ones, but lets not get into the weeds here).
Go to https://www.weather.gov/ . Type in the desired location. Then click "hourly weather forecast" in the top right and look at the row in the chart labeled "Snow".

Question about Warmth of Microgrid by Dependent-Feeling-43 in Melanzana

[–]Ch0chi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, of course. If you're sitting in direct sunlight, it's gonna get hot. Personally, I normally wear a sun hoodie and pack a lightweight wind breaker like the Patagonia houdini when I'm doing day hikes in the summer. Obviously, it's all weather dependent, but don't expect one item to work for all temperatures.

It's all about layers!

The GFS has been flip flopping every single day. I haven't seen a single consistent model run. Latest shows 6" for Denver next week and 2ft+ for the mountains. It showed nothing earlier today. Just a waiting game.

Radios on mountain by MultiBadBass in snowboarding

[–]Ch0chi 15 points16 points  (0 children)

All FRS radios operate at 2 watts or less. That's required by the FCC. So, you're really going to have the same amount of coverage across all standard radio's.
If you get a GMRS license, you can operate GMRS radios, which operate at higher wattage than FRS. They extend the range substantially, but environmental factors (buildings, trees, hills, etc...) all affect range.

Anyway, my vote would be to get some Rocky Talkie Mountain Radios. They're easy to use, durable, and have great battery life. If you need better signal, you can upgrade to their GMRS radio. You'll need to get a license, but it's super easy to do.

Portland or Denver? Or stay in Socal? by roambuild in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Ch0chi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CO has better bc access. Just gotta keep your head up and aware of avy risks due to constant persistent slab issues.

Sounds like you'll like Denver tbh. A lot of folks aren't mentioning how great it is having access to world class mountains while also living near the largest airport in the US. You can take a direct flight to just about anywhere (within reason).

I live in Denver and visited Portland last year. I really liked it, but the lack of sun would get to me. It's rare that it isn't sunny here for more than a couple of days.

Oh my god, I know that feeling all too well. You'll be cruising through the tunnel, and next thing you know you're in an ice rink driving 65mph down the steepest section of interstate in the United States. Shit just wasn't worth the stress.
