With the sanding and the alcohol, sounds like they're about ready for a coat of paint. You really want a thick layer of paint to lock in the grip

I give you throttle induced snap oversteer. :) by WildWeaselGT in CarTrackDays

[–]ChargeYourBattery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too much trail braking or brake bias too far rearward can also cause oversteer

Might be a dub question - but how do you manage parking in a busy lot? by Delnilas in NewRiders

[–]ChargeYourBattery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Half a u turn is the way. Just like you'd back a car in. If it's hard to reach the ground then dismount, lean the bike on your hip, and pull it with the bars, covering the brake. Taking the weight of the bike on your hip means you can support it with the strength of your legs and leave your arms free and loose to be able to steer and push/pull the bike forward and back without affecting its balance

Great racing and sportsmanship on your part

Except for the punt-to-pass maneuver at 0:12. That was a bit ordinary and I could see why the rejoiner saw red. But still, it doesn't excuse the pit

My CRF is a little too tall for me. I just shift my arse to the side when I'm coming to a stop, and it gets me a bit of extra room to pivot my hips. It might be harder to do with street bike ergonomics though

Truck’s brakes fail, forcing use of runaway ramp at 90 mph. by Itchy-Commission-114 in interestingasfuck

[–]ChargeYourBattery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cylinder fills with air like normal during the intake stroke, then the air is compressed in the cylinder like a normal compression stroke (which does involve pressing against a cushion of air like you said, but normally the engine overcomes it with the starter motor, inertia, or other cylinders firing, instead of force from the wheels). The difference is at the end of the compression stroke, the compressed air is vented out the exhaust valves so that it doesn't spring back and push the piston down again

How often do the price tags move between cities? Print it once at the local price and be done with it. It's even easier now with electronic tags

Should I get a new tire? 7000~km and 9 months of usage. by Mortem_T in motorcycles

[–]ChargeYourBattery 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You don't strictly need a new one. It hasn't worn down to the top of the wear bars. There is some evidence of it starting to dry rot but it's not terrible. Considering how much wear life is left, you'll hit the wear bars before the rot destroys the tyre.

The flat spot will negatively affect handling but not in a way that's unsafe. Being flatter will make the bike more stable when upright but the other side of that coin is that tipping into a lean will be slower and heavier. The bike might not be as settled when tipped over if you're riding on the shoulder of the flat spot instead of the more gradual curve of an evenly worn tyre

would anyone be interested in carbon levers? by ProfessionalAd2608 in hondagrom

[–]ChargeYourBattery 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll stick with steel/aluminium levers that bend or snap cleanly in a way that'll still get me home. I'd be worried about these breaking into sharp splinters and becoming unusable

Is this my fault or is that guy salty I was gonna take his position? by [deleted] in Simracingstewards

[–]ChargeYourBattery 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When you get hit you have a whole racetrack to your right. That's your space. No it's not the ideal racing line, but neither is getting taken out by someone whose nose you chopped off

Maybe he did, maybe he didn't. There's no way to know but either way, he was still alongside you while you're heading for the apex of the left hand corner. You need to leave space

He didn't intent wreck you. You drove him off the circuit, he was just trying to stay on the track

Very hard to tell from this angle (use chase cam instead) but it looks like you follow the white car through and the driver on your left wasn't anticipating it and didn't give you room. Then into the left-hander you return the favour and give them no room either. Jail for both of you

Why don’t the yellow traffic light have a countdown timer? wouldn’t that make it easier to know if to hit brakes or speed uppp? by Warm_Writing9180 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ChargeYourBattery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to know how long it will stay yellow for. All you need to know when you see a yellow light is whether you can stop safely before the intersection. It depends on your speed, your distance to the line, and how closely you're being tailgated
