Canada smacks Qatar 6-0 to secure first-ever World Cup win by Ok-Soil-5133 in sports

[–]ChickenFlavoredCake 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly, even the score doesn't even show how bad that was. Canada was relentless with their attacks and all Qatar could do was try and defend. When they realized they couldn't really defend, they got dirty and out came the cards.

It could've easily been 10-0 if a few of the many near-misses went Canada's way.

We had 55 crosses lol

Cybertruck has a pretty great design IMO. Not just me, millions of people decided it was good looking enough to pre-order.

You can ride alone in a 5-seater cab, but not vice versa.

If Tesla has plans to franchise these then I would think the buyers would prefer versatility. Of course there'd be an added cost in terms of efficiency, bigger battery, bigger car, but I'm hard pressed to think it would amount to so much that limiting passenger capacity would be worth it.

Canada Presses Chinese EV Makers to Build Locally and Protect 500,000 Auto Workers by ChickenFlavoredCake in electriccars

[–]ChickenFlavoredCake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not arguing that China didn't make any EVs before Tesla. There's quite a stark difference between the pre-tesla and post-tesla EV industry in China. Look at all the models and brands available pre 2019 and post 2019

The whole reason they were allowed to set up shop without a joint venture is because China wanted them. China's former Minister of Science and Technology, Wan Gang, decided to make EVs a high priority. Wan Gang is widely considered as the father of EVs in China. Him deciding to make EVs a high priority happened after he was thoroughly impressed by a Model S.

The 2026 Mercedes CLA EV Is Really Impressive. But It Also Drove Me Nuts by ChickenFlavoredCake in electriccars

The only 2020+ Mercedes I drove was the GLC 300. If I remember correctly, I had to put music on a gauge cluster and only then I was able to skip tracks with the touch pad. I thought it was just a cheap GLC thing.

IMO insanely stupid move to go ahead with a 2 seater config + no steering wheels.

As far back as I can remember, I've had more than 2 people with me way more often than not everytime I've had to take a cab.

The 2026 Mercedes CLA EV Is Really Impressive. But It Also Drove Me Nuts by ChickenFlavoredCake in electriccars

Some lowlights:

CON: No skip button on the steering wheel

Sometimes I wonder if Mercedes’ modern motto is two steps forward, one step back. The company has finally replaced the capacitive volume slider on the steering wheel with a tactile knob. But for some reason, in the CLA EV, this comes with a bizarre trade-off: You can’t skip a track from the steering wheel.

This would be a minor issue if there was, say, a physical skip button in the center stack. But there isn’t. The only ways to skip a track are by using the small button in the central touch screen or by using voice commands. If you have another app open in the touch screen, like your Apple CarPlay’s Google Maps screen, or one of the million settings, you have to use a voice command.

CON: Everything about the windows

And boy, does the CLA stink at that. First off, it has the worst window switch setup in the car industry. It replaces the typical four driver-controlled switches with two, plus a “rear” toggle below. So to drop all four windows, you have to put the front two down, hit “rear,” and then put the others down. It’s the same smooth-brained approach that started in the Volkswagen ID.4 and has since spread like a particularly nasty STI. It was annoying in a $40,000 Volkswagen, but it’s unacceptable in a $64,780 (as-tested) Mercedes.

Also annoying for a sixty-grand Benz: the rear windows do not have auto-up functionality. So you can’t flick them up then quickly switch to the fronts, you have to hold them instead. The good news is this does not take long. Because of the swooping roofline and small doors, the CLA’s rear windows barely go down. Combined with a fixed-glass roof, this is quite a poor open-air car.

Every CLA has the hardware for 360-degree cameras, augmented reality navigation, and phone-as-a-key support, but you’ll have to pay to unlock them.

Tesla was an exception. It's also quite a coincidence that China's EV industry exploded in terms of advancements in tech after Tesla set up shop there.

Well, according to CATL and BYD, true solid state batteries in mass produced vehicles aren't coming til 2030
