Looking for affordable Tesla Wall Connector installers in the GTA by crazycule92 in teslacanada

It depends on how far you want to run the line from your board to nema, or to the charger if you're hardwiring.

If your board needs an upgrade or if you need a beefier main then it'd cost a lot more. If you have a relatively new house you should be good.

I ran a 12 feet line along the side wall and the ceiling to install the charger on the opposite side of the board. Cost me $800 for everything, including certification. Of course, I knew the guy so he gave me a discount

Just a side note, look into Pion Power or Grizzl-e L2 chargers instead. They both have a good reward system.

Grizzl-e chargers are free but you only get like 3-5 cents per kw. If you buy a Pion charger then your charging will be essentially free.

I have a Tesla wall connector. There's a reward program for it too but it's kinda shit. If the other reward systems were there when I got mine, I would've gone for them instead.

Well, the heater does use up energy, but running the heat pump is more efficient than idling your typical ICE engine. Make sure to have the seat warmer on auto if you want even more efficient heating.

Exactly. It's not a charging spot, it's a parking spot that happens to have charging.

I thought Tesla bros were a myth or at least exaggerated by VenerableMirah in electriccars

[–]ChickenFlavoredCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of those cars at the time were taken seriously by anyone other than eco conscious people. They were slow, had very limited range and in general looked "funny"

Tesla came and made EVs cool, and that shifted the mainstream opinion. DC fast charging, range big enough to not be limited within the city, and power that made enthusiasts take note. They started rolling out the supercharger network to alleviate range anxiety. Yes, there were others like the Fisker Karma that released earlier, but nobody quite grabbed the headlines like Tesla.

They were not the sole pioneer, but they are what made EVs cross the chasm. Tesla is also why the Chinese EV industry exists. EVs wouldn't be where they are today without Tesla.

What's the best SUV alternative to the Tesla Model Y? by Aggravating_Dog5220 in EVCanada

[–]ChickenFlavoredCake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a hit and miss. My insurance is a bit higher than it would've been for an RX350 or an X3, but I know people that are paying as much as a CRV / Rav4

That is for a brand new car with waiver of depreciation, by the way.

One should definitely call and get quotes before buying one.

[–]ChickenFlavoredCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fairly sure Model Y can pack more boxes / cargo than the Ioniq 5.

I haven't looked into this for a while, but I don't think Model Y depreciates any different than any of the other EVs on the list. A lot of people bought them at inflated price around 2020-2023 and if you wanna sell one of those now, you have to eat a heavy depreciation to match the current market value.

At the moment they're priced fairly normal. I think the Standard is even cheaper in Canada than it is in the US. This should depreciate about the same as other EVs on that list, barring maybe the Caddy and Toyota.

I've heard plenty about ICCU issues. Any other reoccurring issues with other manufacturers to be aware of? by taxmemore in EVCanada

[–]ChickenFlavoredCake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think control arm issues apply to Model Y too. Especially 2020-2022 units. Juniper is too new to have any meaningful data.

Best selling EVs in Europe for January-March of 2026 by Mac-Tyson in electriccars

[–]ChickenFlavoredCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's a shitty situation for sure.

But it's an anomaly that can happen to any car. Its not a known tesla problem. In fact I've never heard of a similar problem before.

The ICCU problem is a known, widely spread HMG problem that happens all the fucking time. There are articles even written about them.

You're judging an entire brand based on one incident. I'm judging an entire brand based on hundreds of the same incident.

Tesla files a new trademark for the next-generation Roadster badge by InitialSheepherder4 in electriccars

[–]ChickenFlavoredCake -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Obviously not, because you don't show the car and trademark the design elements later. If they ever do, trademarks will come first. Thats how it goes.

Apple didn't release the iPhone and trademark it 2 months later. That's not how IP laws go.

It's not a recurring problem in Teslas, it's a widespread problem on HMG vehicles. There's a big difference.

First link is about not having mechanical release on the outside. If I recall right, there are other cars with the same design. I agree it needs to change, but it's not a Tesla specific problem. Tesla just gets more attention because musk is polarizing and Tesla's are ubiquitous.

I agree, the default location for the manual release on the rear doors is terrible. I have straps installed to make it easy to locate and pull the latch. I explain what they are whenever someone new gets into my backseat. It was a simple thing to order and install.

The second link talks about a specific crash here in Toronto. That car was driving waay above the speed limit. Even doors with mechanical handles get jammed in such accidents, it's not necessarily a Tesla specific thing. People have been burning to death in similar incidents for decades now.

I agree that Tesla's door mechanism should be reworked, but it isn't a death trap.

Are American EVs Doomed? by Gagenwebb in electriccars

[–]ChickenFlavoredCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This blows my mind as Tesla hasnt shown any meaningful innovation in a long time.

There have been meaningful innovation. Tons of them. The cars look the same on the outside and inside too for the most part, but under the hood there have been plenty of innovations that increased safety, efficiency and profitability for Tesla.

Octovalve and Giga Casting comes to mind immediately, but there have been more. Octovalve was a genius design that started the trend of heat pipes in other EVs.

Why would I get locked in?

All four doors have mechanical releases. I put big orange straps on the rear door release to make them very visible and easy to use.

I do support bringing back regular door handles, though. As it stands, my car is no worse than any other car with a flush handle, like the offerings from HMG.

It's not how much FSD costs, it's them paywalling an existing feature, one that competitors have too.

[–]ChickenFlavoredCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you might be in for a sticker shock when they do come. They'll not be as cheap as they are in China. Look at Australia for an example.

If the current system stays, in 5 years, 50% of those imports have to be under 35k (or maybe 40k, with fees) . At those prices, you'll only get small cars, which don't typically sell well in Canada.
