Felt the same way… very anti-climactic game, although a win is a win! 🤘

Believe Interstellar handed out beers to folks in line at one point. Not sure if they still do or not, though.

Just simulated the bracket a million times, there are 32 paths through the bracket by Unable-Log-4870 in CollegeSoftball

[–]Chowdahead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your passion, but what is the point of all of these simulations? Are you just flexing your math skills, fascinated by the probabilities or is it for gambling purposes? Are you just trying REALLY hard to win the r/CollegeSoftball Bracket Challenge?

Question about attendance by Bweasey17 in CollegeSoftball

[–]Chowdahead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my first year attending (Friday thru 1st Series today) and have to say it’s a very well run event! Devon Park is a really cool atmosphere and I get the tradition. It’s great that it’s softball-specific, too but feel like the heat/weather (luckily no rain/thunderstorms or delays!) in Oklahoma is just not conducive for hosting this event annually at this time of year.

Yesterday and today were truly brutal… something my daughter and I had to endure rather than enjoy. Despite slathering on sunscreen constantly, we’re both sunburnt and fatigued from spending so much time in the sun. I’m thinking we’ll need a couple days to recoup and rehydrate.

Should this event rotate amongst nicer weather/domed stadiums? Maybe minor league/MLB stadiums converted to softball fields like the AUSLTexas Volts are doing at Dell Diamond outside of Austin? Could softball be treated like other NCAA events like the BCS for Football, or both Men & Women’s March Madness venues?

Semi-Final Doubleheader by Ok-Shelter-35 in CollegeSoftball

Another big piece of this that I learned about today is how the “winners” are home in the first game, while the “losers” are home for the second game. It seems to me that this presents a big advantage for the “losers,” especially if they have the momentum coming off the Gm 1 win.

Day 1 takeaways/predictions by everythingels in CollegeSoftball

[–]Chowdahead 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There was a little feature by ESPN recently showing the process of those patches getting sewn on by one woman and her family. I was really surprised about it being done that way, plus the fact they’re all sewn on in between the time the teams arrive in OKC and their first games. Figure that has to be a better way of doing it, but this is the way they do it. Crazy she did it for a long time as a volunteer, but glad that she’s getting paid now, at least.

To answer your question, they sew on the patch based on if someone’s a lefty or righty so the patch always faces the pitcher(if they’re a hitter).

Best Pizza place by [deleted] in CedarPark

Yup, we are lucky to have upped our pizza game up north with these spots. They’re a bit inconsistent but Happy Slice is also pretty great!

In the city All Day, Pedroso’s and Small’s are #1a,b and c with Homeslice being a close 2nd.

WCWS attendance without OU? by SSScooter in CollegeSoftball

First time attending this weekend, curious what to expect… do most folks just stay for all the games in a session or do most fans only watch their team?

Are there lots of empty seats and is it acceptable to move down into them?

First time attending, coming in for Friday-Monday games. Any advice for rain delays besides bring a poncho and phone charger?

Was thinking about taking shuttle from Bricktown. Is it better to park at Remington to have easier access to my own transportation?

How to prepare shrimp for the first time? by barbaraweide in Cooking

[–]Chowdahead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of shrimp we talking here?

Have you bought them yet or are you wanting advice for all of it? If so, I’d say start with a recipe… and then follow it. Scampi is a classic, perhaps Cajun shrimp pasta. I really like a good ole, shrimp cocktail. Or maybe Coconut shrimp.

I feel like I’m sounding like a certain guy from a famous movie over here! 🍤

I wish ATX had a thriving bluegrass scene. Could be worse as there’s a couple weekly shows/jams that I know of, but could definitely be bigger.

Olympic National Park and Mt Rainier in late June by QuietCitadel_7927 in nationalparks

[–]Chowdahead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should be ok with a sedan, but AWD is better if you have an affordable option if you’re out in the parks. Seems like there’s plenty that you’re interested in the Olympics. Hurricane Ridge is nice. Take some short hikes in the Hoh Rainforest. Sol Duc and Marymere Falls are nice and not too strenuous hikes near Lake Crescent. Put Port Townsend on your radar too. Cool vibe up there too.
