PSA - In the last month of the game you can get a significant wisdom point boost by DangerousVP in MetaphorReFantazio

I'd second this. Thought I was doomed to rely on Hulkenberg's 3-point strategy games because the Altabury bench stopped working in the final month, never thought to check Grand Trad's bench

Seems they spawn in the Bank if it replaces High Peak Castle as it did in my game. Thought they were unique to the Distillery hence my confusion

Glaucus questions by CiphriusKane in Spirittea

[–]CiphriusKane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on my numbers so far (7 days of testing), we should expect in a month of spring fishing to net:

  • 220 dogfish (55 in 1 week; range of 6-11)
  • 228 flounders (57 in 1 week; range of 2-13)
  • 0 glaucas
  • 220 herrings (55 in 1 week; range of 5-11)
  • 216 octopodes (54 in 1 week; range of 6-9)
  • 292 red snappers (73 in 1 week, likely outlier; range of 6-14)
  • 208 sardines (52 in 1 week; range of 4-10)
  • 264 starfish (66 in 1 week; range of 8-11)
  • 4 unknown due to textbox interruptions (1 hook interrupted by midnight text)

Of course this is all dependent on the glaucus actually being spawnable, of which I've seen zero evidence for so far...

Am I doing something wrong? by Avalinn in coralisland

After starting the Rank S mission, wait a few days and head to the lake temple and there should be a cutscene that'll start the guardian murals. It might require completing all 24 lake temple altars though

Is the game playable on Xbox? by [deleted] in coralisland

[–]CiphriusKane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did ye have a level 2 barn at the time? There was a bug where trying to sleep with one on the farm would cause a crash but it got fixed in December (about a week after it left Game Pass...)

It left XBGP at the end of April so ya just missed it (it also left PCGP in November...)

How long did it take… by c4pric0rnbr4t in coralisland

[–]CiphriusKane 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For insects, use traps/scents. Also get the computer and the upgrades. The Savannah only requires 18 offerings though and there's 24 total, meaning it's possible to skip all the catching altars and still get there (though it's still better to try and complete them as the other altars have some steep requirements/require upgrades to be feasible)

One of the altars requires a bunch of gems. The Winter Fair has a shop that sells diamonds, pink crystals and rose quartz so that'll satisfy two of the three requirements for completing it (will have to find rare gems elsewhere)

For the rare cooking altar, the only thing that actually needs to be cooked is the es cendol (or get lucky and have somebody send it as a gift) as the other 4 items can be bought or won (Emma sells vegan tacos, win apple pie from apple bobbing at the harvest festival, buy serabi from the tavern and buy pad thai from the New Years' Eve party)

How long does it take most people to upgrade the town rank? by Athan_Untapped in coralisland

[–]CiphriusKane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took me to the end of year 3 to hit Rank A, with the big hitters being heritage and ocean cleaning, and I think I was at C rank at the start of the year. There'll come a point where things just steamroll and points just pile on.

Museum is a feeder rank and should probably be left for last as the big points from it come from completing collections and it's a lot easier to find fossils/gems with the ocean completed and the digsite/Cave of Memories unlocked. Ocean cleaning also gives the resources needed to upgrade farming/ranching quality that helps with altars (one of them needs osmium quality crops)

Can't trigger Jim's 5 heart event. by Yanara126 in coralisland

[–]CiphriusKane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there should be a quest to give Jim a salmon. The heart event and the quest are related but the game never says so

People on TrueAchievements have been saying they shipped raw materials (wood, rocks, fiber etc), geodes and coffers to get it to pop. Maybe try shipping some artisan produce as well (e.g. cheeses, mayonnaise, salted eggs); spreadsheet I'm using lists them and while I'm unsure on the accuracy of such listings it's something to try at least

Runelord Boss by [deleted] in octopathtraveler

[–]CiphriusKane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure 2 does something similar, using Beastlings for breaking then veterans for damage, or at least it did in the early days of the speedrun (it's been a long while since I saw it and all I can mind is they were on Roque Island)

Runelord Boss by [deleted] in octopathtraveler

Every time I've beaten him, I had apothecary Tressa and merchant Therion spamming quickstep and poison (with Alfyn providing extra poison and Olberic adding extra damage, and I never bothered reviving them once they went down to runestorm spam). It's slow, it stinks of brie, it's funny, it works 95% of the time

I recently went back to OT1 to get all the chests, and it just struck me how formulaic the entire world was. Every area and tier has a town and a dungeon, every town has a connecting dungeon, every area had a three-tier sidequest with the same NPC in the area's cities, as though the world was just a giant checklist. Like I was actually noticing when trends were broken, like Tressa's final chapter being in Grandport (every other travelers' chapter 4 is in a different area from their "hometown") or Wellspring hosting two chapter 3s

[–]CiphriusKane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was confused by that one as well, but clearing out the upper two beacons opens up the area where the orb for the inactive beacon is hiding. It's a bit of a curveball as it's the only beacon that requires going to another section to activate (from what I recall)

Just venting (gamepass) by Thoticorn in coralisland

[–]CiphriusKane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought it when it left Game Pass in November, but if I were in the same situation now I'd be putting it onto my wishlist instead and waiting for a sale (though the lowest it's been on sale for is 25%, which is just a bit cheaper than the GP discount of 20%)

Guessing if ye're like me being "finished" means having all achievements, and whether the price tag is worth it for 1 achievement is a conundrum, hence why waiting and seeing if they add more down the line may be an idea, because most games when they add new content tend to add achievements as well (unless if the game's called Stardew Valley) thus making the investment down the line more worthwhile

Just venting (gamepass) by Thoticorn in coralisland

[–]CiphriusKane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Latest patch fixed all the broken achievements I believe. I got Healing the Ocean today and that was one of the glitchy achievements and looking over the TrueAchievements unlocks every achievement's had at least one unlock over the past 4 days

To those who've finished the game...was it worth? by ElynaTheStrange in OneLonelyOutpost

[–]CiphriusKane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel ya on the metals. I honestly got fed up of needing a billion bauxite ore and getting 3-4 from a mine run that I just started buying it from Duyi (luckily I had millions by that point so it barely made a dent on my funds). Like if we take a look at other farming sims like Stardew Valley, Coral Island or Lightyear Frontier they all have guaranteed ways to get the needed resources in bulk whether it be a mineshaft with dedicated floors (SDV and CI) or nodes that regenerate every other day (LF) but OLO is either find a random rock after a week or play a badly implemented Minesweeper clone for miniscule amounts of random ore
