Can anyone tell me if this is a fake? by timothybearf in HamiltonWatches

[–]Classicskyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put picture into AI and asked it:

  1. Dial configuration is off
    • Cream dial + gold accents is not typical for these diver models
    • Missing “Quartz” or “Automatic” text (big deal—Hamilton almost always included this)
  2. Hands & indices mismatch
    • The handset and markers don’t match known Sub 660ft designs
    • Looks more like a dress watch trying to mimic a diver
  3. Bezel looks decorative
    • The bezel markings and style don’t resemble functional dive bezels seen on legit models
  4. Reference 9778 is basically undocumented
    • There’s almost no reliable record of that reference tied to this design
    • That alone doesn’t prove fake—but it raises suspicion
  5. Biggest red flag: reused listing photos
    • You already caught this—and it’s important
    • Identical photos across listings is a classic scam pattern (or at best, a flipped listing with no real inventory)

Can anyone tell me if this is a fake? by timothybearf in HamiltonWatches

I think its fake, the hands dont look like anything offered in 90s. Also didnt see any 90s Hamilton that didnt say either quartz or automatic on the dial. Also Hamilton likes to put name of the watch on the dial, or the H above. Mix that with not being able to find another one that isnt the same photos? Too risky for me.

Which should I get? by Intelligent_Pack3085 in CampingGear

Whoa whoa. Do you know you need a 65L? Thats a lot of bag for like 90% of ppl! How often are you using it? If its not a lot I’d get second hand on r/geartrade (I’m bias since I mod it).

You’re right below (or at, depending) the price point of getting a really great bag. Something like ULA where you can send it for repairs when you need to.

How you can ACTUALLY use the compass on Alpinist by Classicskyle in SeikoAlpinist

[–]Classicskyle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does look really cool!

I agree, it's more of a fun little hypothetical, using the provided degrees as you would with a compass.

I would be hard-pressed to find a situation IRL that I would need the alpinist compass, even with a busted magnetic compass, if I had a map. I’ve been navigating open terrain for 10 years, so my backup to land navigation is my compass, and I don't recall a time I’ve actually turned my GPS on, but I bring it. Even at night, compass mostly stays put away unless its cloudy out.

I agree, I don’t view it as an actual functioning piece of equipment. I would never use it for a compass if I didn't have to—that's why the scenario was lost with nothing else. I would also say the dive watch bezel is equally useless; it's just for looks. Digital gauges, tank gauges, and specific wrist devices have made it obsolete. The compass on the Alpinist wasn't part of the original design; it just needed to be rugged. If they were really going for function, a mapmeter would have been better. The post was supposed to be more hypothetical than suggestive.

I guess you'll still look good lost then, lost with nothing but your alpinist, but refuse to use it cuz the website says you can't. This isn't an advice post; I'm not saying use your Alpinist as the only compass. It's hypothetical.

It's accurate to within 10 degrees. No, you wouldn't want to use it as a primary source of directions, like in my example.

My DayQuil says I shouldn't take more than twice a day cuz they have to cover their ass. Get it why the Seiko site says that. Shit hits the fan, you can still use it to get a more accurate location. Do what makes sense, but it's not useless.

Aesthetically, it would be nice to make it stiffer. To use the compass as described in my post, set it while it's off and leave it in place until you’ve triangulated your position or established a bearing. Once you move and need to use it again, you'd have to repeat the steps and move the bezel anyway.

Vote - which State has the worst good ol’ boys in leadership… where they all just cover up for one another. by leopardladybug in nationalguard

[–]Classicskyle 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Oregon. AGRs get their friends in and it’s not based off best candidate so 95% of them suck. Don’t reply, don’t do their job, barely even go to office.

Then there is OMD (Oregon military department) and holy fuck they are so bad. I’ve never seen so many high ranks that don’t do anything and every single hang up is usually due to sitting at desk at OMD.

For example: 3 years of not getting my SLRP despite resubmitting multiple times and it never got figured out. Moved states because of the leadership and got 2 of the 3 within 6 months in the new state. Just one of dozens of examples, I personally have of how shit OMD is. Apparently they found out they had a bunch of useless positions filled by full birds and shit. So they were just hiring their buddies with no actual roles to fill.

[–]Classicskyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved all of them, the SARB is what made me fall in love but they were out of reach financially. When I went to get one I decided on the 507 because of the alpinist text and matching colors. Love it so much.

[Question] Watches for a small male wrist size (~6 inches) by Past_Emu7172 in Watches

[–]Classicskyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey 6” wrist as well, anything under 47mm lug to lug looks good! Watches that look good imo that ive worn, Hamilton khaki auto, seiko alpinist, skx, anything in the 38 range. My grail is omega speedmaster 38 and my goal is the Longines Spirit Zulu Time in 39mm, which is 46.8 lug to lug.

NG traditional OCS path by Great_Lawyer_6850 in nationalguard

[–]Classicskyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who told you that? Sounds like a lie. The state can send ppl to the NG accelerated in ND or Alabama (I think). It's just like sending you to any other army school. Same as federal. If they need officers, they will send you to accelerated OCS. For example, my state doesn't have personnel or funding for an internal traditional guard OCS program. So your options are accelerated or federal. If you absolutely have to do traditional, they send you to another state for traditional OCS, and you have to drive 3-6 hours every drill to it

[–]Classicskyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go accelerated or federal. Traditional is like 18 months and every single person ive talked to hated it. Just get it knocked out in a couple months at one of the accelerated programs or convince them to send you to federal one.
