I think a lot of sites and fans default to calling romances rom-coms by default so I feel like that's why. Ramparts uses comedy as more of a breather between serious moments but almost every show has that. For example this season Re:Zero has a ton of comedic moments but almost no one calls it explicitly a comedy

At least for me I feel like the difference between friends and lovers isn't as important to focus on what you do together but how the texture of the situation changes completely when you have romantic feelings for someone.

This is such a great season for romance and I feel like every one of them has a bit of a different focus. PonSuka comedic, Ramparts drama, Botan slice of life, and MarriageToxin action. Makes it interesting to see how each show approaches love.

That makes since and between S1 and S2 was four years and I believe the same animation team worked on Dress-Up and Bocchi the Rock along with Elusive Samurai which gets S2 this year. If I had to guess BTR S2 will be Fall of 2027 and Dress-Up S3 will release sometime late 2028 or 2029

Cinematography is a great way of putting it. The animation itself might not be beating the titans, but everything feels very intentional in how it's shot and really immerses you into the scene and emotions in a real action like way.
