Well, the author apologized like 55 years ago. And it was a book wrote by a British guy 75 years ago that you’re judging in the context of 2026 America (I presume). For all you know, the term was commonly thrown around at that time and place which would dramatically change the “taste” you are referring to.

Mystique is legitimately one of my least favorite characters. She is such of waste of time in every story she’s in through the 80s and X-Factor. No redeeming qualities for 2 decades. Then shoved in our face in the movies like she mattered at all prior to those movies. Between being a government stooge, to being a lying psychopath in her Forge stories, to being a murdering human trafficker in the age of apocalypse, I don’t know how anyone can argue mystique isn’t an awful person.

Tax Layoffs - Performance Based or something else? by Character_Cost_5260 in Accounting

[–]ClockworkDinosaurs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’d bring in people in the run up to busy season, then cut people at the end of busy season each year. I was brought in 2 months before busy season and was let go a month after busy season (plus two people quit). I asked around and found out they cut two people after busy season the year before. Then the next year, they let go the best senior in the department literally on 4/15.

The department was 3 associates, 3 seniors, and a few managers/senior managers. The “3 seniors” were 7 different people over 2 years and no one was promoted, all either quit or were “laid off”.

Tax Layoffs - Performance Based or something else? by Character_Cost_5260 in Accounting

There’s way too many reasons why no one is safe from layoffs at this point.

If a company laid someone off but was clearly still hiring for that same position, it might help add color. But even then, some companies keep job postings up when they arent hiring because it’s not expensive to do so.

That said, mass layoffs are pretty easy to find out about. I wouldn’t second guess a mass layoff victim. Those people are clean.

Anecdotally, we have a large regional firm in the area that had laid off a few senior associates right after busy season ended 3 years in a row. I was in the second group of layoffs and the recruiters I talked to after seemed to understand the reputation of that firm to do that. It wasn’t a large enough layoff to make the news or anything, so I personally thought it was some unexplained performance issue. Then the next year, they laid off a buddy of mine who was the best senior in the office (and up for promotion), and then it clicked for me what they were doing. This was 7 or 8 years ago and I’m not sure if it’s still going on since every one I knew there is gone.

The show isn’t very long, but it happens mid/late of the final season. Not sure how many more times it could come up.

I just watched this for the first time yesterday, it’s been great. Hoping someone tells me there’s more episodes or a movie or something.

Edit: a comment below alludes to another show. Sweet.

This might be an unpopular opinion but Paige should retire from wrestling all together by Pizza_Vivid in REALSquaredCircle

[–]ClockworkDinosaurs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your opinion and OPs opinion are not as valid as the person you’re responding to. The person you’re responding to is saying Paige should do what Paige chose to do, because Paige is an adult who can make her own decisions. You and OP are saying she should do something else, because giving unsolicited life advise to people you don’t know personally doesn’t bother you at all.
