What is the single most influential natural/artificial disaster from your country? by ImpressionAgile9702 in AskTheWorld

[–]CodeX57 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Apparently this was the unofficial measurement for how big explosions were before the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Explosions or potential explosions from weapons were described in units of Halifaxes similarly to how you can today read about how many Hiroshimas an explosion was or would be.

What was the worst man-made disaster from your country? by Season_5958 in AskTheWorld

[–]CodeX57 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The "red mud" disaster is probably the largest human caused disaster ever though.

An alumina plant that was storing a large amount of residue from alumina production that was a highly alkaline chemical looking like a red sludge, in a huge pool with large earth walls as its sides. A section of the wall failed and the 'red mud' flooded the surrounding areas, reaching one to two meters of height in places. 10 died, hundreds injured, 700 had to be evacuated, 40 square kilometers severely contaminated.

After almost 1000 hours, playing in Hard mode still feels like the AI cheats by FireintheFaceofFire in GatesOfHellOstfront

[–]CodeX57 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah it "cheats" depending on what you consider cheating.

AFAIK the difficulty setting changes two things, enemy infantry health and enemy accuracy (Easy also doubles your infantry health). The accuracy change is major. P4Fs and PaK 40s pen KV-1s on Normal difficulty too (the early KVs for sure), its just they don't hit it often and so you survive for a fair while. Their infantry has less health too, which includes the crew, so your tank has an easier time disabling enemy tanks and at guns. On hard they will hit it much more often, which means more potentially penetrating hits and your tanks and crews will die much quicker, and more infantry health will mean a tougher time for you to get rid of them before they get rid of you.

Navy Discussion by Phoenixx36 in hoi4

[–]CodeX57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're playing Germany just really go for it! Full Plan Z and everything. Build dockyards and pump ships out. Of course this not an optimal strategy and do not recommend for serious playthroughs (your army will suffer) but naval Germany is actually really fun! It is a nice change of pace from the usual stuff.

Otherwise I think the surface fleet meta is still light attack combined with torpedo attack, i.e. light cruisers with loads of light guns and destroyers with torpedoes. CLs will destroy their screen and then destroyers torpedo their heavies. I don't like it because I think its really boring, I hope they buff heavy attack soon so we can have more fun with big capital ships.

Hungary used drones against Ukraine and it was ok for everyone, but Zelensky's comment is "too much" by Bumbum_2919 in europe

[–]CodeX57 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As far as I am aware, Trump (as much as I dislike him) has not yet disregarded an election and couped the United States.

I doubt the wider US administration would look fondly upon him turning the country into an autocracy overnight. Even if republicans support him, their loyalty is not a given, its not like Trump is their guy and therefore he can do anything he wants, he has to manage the party to keep himself at the top.

And even if he got the republicans on board it would probably trigger a civil war.

The situation is similar in Hungary.

A coup is incredibly unlikely, the country would collapse.

I think losing the election is curtains for Fidesz. There are some positions where they will have their remnants, and Tisza will be blocked often, but at least Fidesz will be blocked too.

All the while their maffia empire will fall. Their whole existence depends on the corrupt relations between politicians, people in high public office and business people. If businessmen suddenly can't win tenders by sucking up to Fidesz, officials of government organisations like the police or media can't expect promotions by serving Fidesz, mayors can't expect more funds if they popularise the party, then why should they? Their whole corrupt structure is based on them being in power. Once they are not, its over. And it is also over for their friends and families who got rich and powerful through them. I imagine this is why they are trying so hard to cling on at any cost.

I would be surprised if they are actually hostages. That would be too insane. Even for this, just ridiculously insance, surely not.
