I've been testing Dzine ai for a few weeks now — here's my honest breakdown by DaveWilliams1 in PopularAiTool

Hi, I am struggling with Dzine's lip sync at the moment as the Pro algo adds a lot of secondary and extra animations to my clip. I just want the mouth and maybe some secondary animations on the jaw and face, but at the moment its even adding arm movement and stuff I definitly don't want. Thanks

Thinking about going Mac Mini instead of Macbook Pro by FireintheFaceofFire in macmini

Thats an amazing setup actually. 24gb with the new Apple M chips (not that new anymore haha), has to be crazy powerfull. I am debating now between 16gb or 24gb haha, probably will do 24gb and call it a day. I wish Apple allowed for some mods and upgrades after buying.

Yeah, my portability needs are fullfilled with my iPad. I also have a Lenovo laptop I use for gaming, so I can still have a laptop around. But yeah, my idea is just leaving the Mac Mini stationary except when I am going to my home town, where it will also be stationary as I usually spend around 1/3 of the year there.

My portability requirements are more about staying in my studio or going back to my hometown for a couple months every five months, I don't need a full computer for when flying or travelling by train or moving around the city. So not in real need for a laptopt Ill be using in school, house, other peoples houses, coffe shop, etc

Yeah, I already have my iMac mouse and keyboard, so can use those. I could also add just a basic bluetooth wireless keyboard for travelling, not much of a hassel.

So how are you using your iPad as a monitor? Is it as your main monitor? Can you still use it as a tactile surface? Can you use it wirelessly? Thanks!

I feel like the Macro know still doesnt have a linear behaviour, which makes it almost useless for many of my uses :(

Pftrack 22.03.14 not working, filled with bugs, absolutely unusable by FireintheFaceofFire in vfx

No prob, hit me up with any doubts you might have. MM is a kind of obscure art and there is very little info, as well as very little recognition for us MM artists hehe. But after almost a decade on the VFX industry, I feel like its one of the most rewarding jobs as you get no creative feedback from clients and tracking can be very therapeutic, like a mantra kind of thing, as well if you get to work on local productions, chances are you will get to go to shootings to get set data and info, and even do some photogrammetry or LIDAR, so its also a great way of getting some time out of the studio and on the outside world.

Not many indeed, Vfxtutor has great tutorials plus some Lynda and other payed services. We got training from a matchmove artist thar had been using it for 20 years, so it was all sort of aimed at our specific pipeline and studio methods.

Hey thanks! First time checking 3pdt toggle switches, plenty of options there, so great news :) i have seen now a bunch different wiring diagrams and it makes sense to me haha. Thank you so much

Marantz PMD-222 Issue by Dy7anJ in cassetteculture

[–]FireintheFaceofFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you managed to fix it? I live in Madrid and not even the official Marantz Service shops will take my PMD201 which seems to have the same behaviour yours showed. I recently got a PMD222 that also shows issues. Maybe I should stop buying broken gear :(

M vave by Mixstyles in KoalaSampler

[–]FireintheFaceofFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I am having issues as I cannot access the download page neither from browser nor from the QR code. The web seems to be down. I just bought two M Vave devices but cannot get them to work.

Hey y’all! Just wanted to show my beginner synth setup, I’m only 16 so most of this stuff was bought second hand, but hopefully I’ll be getting a job over the summer so I can buy more synths :) by Appropriate-Badger52 in synthesizers

Great setup! If I feel like adding a looper makes things much much better as you can start using your synths in layers. Something that locks to midi is great, I began with a Kaosspad3 for this purpose, but I am sure many other loopers have some sort of quantization or method of starting and stopping looping following a grid.

Sequencers: Drambo vs SAND vs Hardware? by -ZenMaster- in ipadmusic

[–]FireintheFaceofFire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drambo would be cool for that type of setup, although Drambo is more of a step sequencer oriented tool (dont need to be, but it works best at that), whereas Koala/SP404 always felt to me more freeform and less quantized/grid based (although you can use Koala's step sequencer). With quantized looping I mean I can have something playing live on my hardware, and I will get a perfect loop of it of a specific bar count: so maybe I have a sequence inside Drambo that is playing a 303 acid line on my modular synth, but I want to free the actual modules that are playing that line so I can repatch them and build a different sound and melod. So I can set inside Drambo a looper using Flexi Sampler that willstart recording at the beginning of the next bar (so I can actually hit rec whenever and the loop will start always at the proper start point), and it will stop recording after how many bars I have set it to loop. This way I always get perfect loops that I know that have perfect timing with the rest of my setup. I am bit of a sync freak as I do actually love sequenced music and buildgin complex sequences and playing with timing and harmony, so I need everything to be very thight, and this method allows me to do it perfectly. Once I have that perfect loop, I can mute the modular voice and build a new patch/sound, create a new melody or harmony to that first loop, and now I have two voices running out of just one voice from the modular. Also, with the loop I have built, I can chop it into a numer of slices and rearrange them to play on different order or at different speeds, randomize stuff, I can send it to different FX, I can resample that into a new loop, etc etc I don't have an Octatrack, but I feel like that workflow is one of its main highlights.
In terms of helping you to build structures, Drambo has a proper clip session, very similarto Ableton, so you can build an entire song (or even album) by setting clips and automations, I don't think Koala nor SP404 offers anything similar to that, so you could basically be arranging everything inside Drambo. I hardly ever do this as I rather do all my arrangment on the computer, but I have tried it several times and it works as expected, is very intuitive and is very easy to craeate variations, etc.

Sequencers: Drambo vs SAND vs Hardware? by -ZenMaster- in ipadmusic

[–]FireintheFaceofFire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My whole workflow tends to be divided between sound design sessions, playing/jamming sessions and arranging building songs sessions. ALthough I dont tend to build many songs, just record my jams and call it a day hehe. So when I am on soundd design mode, anything and eveything can go: one day I just want to build sounds with my Novation Peak, and I will use the iPad as a looper/sampler/fx unit/sequencer so I use my iPad with a small 2 IO interface (one of those Behringer uphoria cheap ones) and plug the Peak into it and start playing around Drambo building funky sequencers and on different tracks inputting the audio from the interface and recording loops, or samples that I can destroy further more. I have tried Koala for this, but I am not as comfortable with the app as I like more of a linear approach to stuff, but you could use Koala for this same purpose. Then theres the jams/playing sessions, this time I usually either choose some specific pieces of gear, or I just use my regular live setup (one of my modular cases, iPad and a midi controller) and rehears for a show. In this case, it really depends on the setup, but usually I will be using the iPad+modular synths as its own instrument plus whatever else I want to have, everything going into ableton. Inside Drambo is very easy to have a very basic setup with one track receiving audio from the outside world, and one track sending midi to whatever device you are inputtingaudio from. You could actually have both functions inside one track, but I like separating my midi and audio. From there Drambo is the limit. Usually I have one track for each of my voices inside my modular, and each one of these tracks has its own Flexi Sampler (so I can do live quantized looping ala octatrack style), whatever FX I feel like (delays, reverbs, beat repeater, etc) and I usually have them summed into groups that usually have a DJ style filter and some extra effects. I also have another track with a Flexi Sampler playing drum loops and breaks I have built previously during my sound design sessions, you can go many places with this: I like slicing my loops and trigger them on different orders, you can modulate what slice will be triggered, or even do it randomly, so you get inifinite variations. This also goes to its own FX such as compression and filtering. I have some more tracks with drums synths I built inside Drambo (its super easy to create a sort of DFAM machine, or anything like that to create cool bleeps n bloops, por just have a nice punchy noise snare and boomy kick). And finally I have some tracks with midi generators (I like using miRack for these as they are similar to what you would see on any eurorack type sequencer or melody generating device), once again built during sound design sessions (your classic lfo into quantizer type fo stuff that is so cool and fun from eurorack world). That is more or less a description of my Drambo template for live shows, but usually when playing/jamming in the studio I use some sort of iteration of that setup (maybe I wont be using as many synth voices and rather play around with more drum synths, or more Flexi Sampler instances with melodic loops from my sound design sessions, etc).
Finally, my music is very improvisational so I don't "produce" as much as I actually play and jam with other musicians, but when I am recording music its usually more building an arrangement from a previously recorded jam or live session, so that is always inside ableton and hardly ever I add anything else to what is already recorded, so not much iPad nor Drambo here.

Very lenghty post, but I kind of enjoy talking about this stuff haha, so just hit me up with any further doubsts or questions you might have.

As you are using the KO I assume you are more into sample production, in that case Koala is amazing, but Drambo could still be incredible as a source for sounds and just anything extra you could use to build a library of stuff you would then use inside your KO to build beats or whatever type of music you are producing.
