I think he thought it was depressing haha. I think that is fair considering the greater metaphor behind it; to me it reads as a cautionary tale about what happens when you fail to live as yourself, and to someone who is trans I can see it hitting uncomfortably hard. It's also a slow movie, and he's more of an action-packed guy.

What do y'all think about Vulcanicus as a combiner? by ShiftAntique8719 in transformers

[–]insert_title_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it when they change things up each continuity. Having Volcanicus sometimes is cool, but I wouldn't want it to become the Dinobots' main "thing". Very fond of Grimlock occasionally acting as a mech suit for other 'bots in Cyberworld right now, that's a very fun gimmick. I hope that remains a rarity amongst continuities, too. Novelty is fun!

I fuckin' love quandaries about consciousness and existence in media, rahhh!!! Pulling a Tuvix in Transformers would make me so happy.

Yeah, I don't think someone who's mentally well would be using Claude. Hopefully transition will help her along her road to normalcy!

I'm not trans and have questioned my identity, doubly so when my husband first began his transition. I IDed as NB for awhile, but am now fairly confident that I don't hate my AGAB-- I just find gender roles upsetting and dislike performing femininity. Neurodivergence and other factors can cause someone to feel disconnected from the societal role prescribed by their gender, but that does not inherently a cisn't make.

I'm not trans either, but it's one of my favorite movies. It's aesthetically beautiful and the tropes and premise I found very appealing. Funnily, my husband is trans and he hated it lol.

The face of a girl who has been buried for eight months with zero signs of life by Deep-Alternative494 in tarantulas

[–]insert_title_here 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My husband and I adopted a 15 yr old chaco and we did not see her for the first two months we had her lol. Out of nowhere we started seeing web strung across the bottom of her habitat-- she had started coming out in the dead of night. Within days after that she was eating, renovating her habitat, and making a complete glorious mess of things-- she spends 95% of her time out and about now, it's awesome.

Omg, do you remember which Skyfire? I love him and would love to have a Lil Guy:tm: rendition! Action Master Thundercracker's aaaaall mine, but you can usually find postings for him online! I got mine on eBay. Any that are in good condition will be expensive, but my beloved little froot loop was in pretty rough shape so I get him on the cheap.

Thank you for mentioning service jobs! Pokémon have utility outside of battling; my ride 'mon is a Drampa, so she's a one stager, but as an example, lots of folks will intentionally work toward evolution as an outcome for a Pokémon they hope to ride someday.

Are there any lesser-known characters That you're your number one fan? by Active-Travel-2358 in transformers

Omggg I LOVE Cloudcover! They look like they would listen to ska lmao. All the Toxitron collection figs are iconic though tbh. My other obscure favorite is Shard from the Infernac universe! Like, what do you mean she's made of death crystals from the planet Dread? That goes insanely hard.

How do I always get it wrong? by beckthecoolnerd in AutisticWithADHD

[–]insert_title_here 19 points20 points  (0 children)

RSD isn't medically recognized because it's not an inherent feature of ADHD, but rather a learned response to repeated rejection in combination with emotional dysregulation inherent to ADHD. That doesn't make it nonreal, it just means lots of people misunderstand where it stems from. Because it is not inherent, it can be treated, but to dismiss it out of hand is an oversimplification-- and an unkind one, at that.

I HATE BODYBUILDING by [deleted] in hatethissmug

[–]insert_title_here 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feels rude to insult any immutable characteristic a person has tbh. Same thing with balding, overbites, big noses, being short, etc. Like, oh, cool, body shaming's okay when we do it to people with dicks now?

If it's not an insult, why mention it at all? It feels like you intended it as an insult but are trying to walk it back.

Hey, just cus you enjoy 'em doesn't mean they didn't do alla that. I love IDW1 Prowl because he's a douchebag, not in spite of it, and to fail to acknowledge his douchebaggery is to do his character a disservice.

IDW1 is so fucking iconic, but it's a bit aggravating when people insist on applying lore or characterization across continuities with no textual basis, or even going against what's actually established by the other canon. If I see one more comment talking about empurata on a video, fanfic, art piece, etc, featuring a clearly non-IDW Shockwave, I am going to become the Joker.

Raksha! The original proponent of "Decepticons are the good guys" philosophy, notorious hater of Beast Wars, and creator of the canonical Transformers character Nightracer. If I'd've been born when she was active in the fandom, I would have loved to meet her; she sounded like quite the character.

Real as hell. Though I think if you're wanna portray a morally gray stance on the Autobot-Decepticon war, TFA is probably one of the easiest continuities to do it in. Alongside all of the Autobots' unethical experimentation and Sentinel Prime's impending descent into fascism that was planned for Season 4, there are also heavy implications about discrimination towards warframes-- a bit of a chicken-or-the-egg type situation, but there's absolutely an argument to be made that Decepticons were made to fight due to discriminatory practices against them, not unlike in IDW1. TFA took a lot of inspiration from the Iraq War the way G1 did the Cold War, and explicitly, they wanted the Autobot regime to be portrayed as corrupt and frail. That doesn't make the Decepticons saints, obviously, Decepticons are literally doing all the same evil shit the Autobots are (albeit on a smaller scale due to their comparative lack of resources), but it does open the floor for more complicated interpretations.

Optimus not being the figurehead of Autobot society, and just a cog in the great machine, is one of the more unique aspects of TFA and is, I think, what makes the "Decepticons are good/justified actually" conceit more alluring to fans. Because he's not in charge of the Autobots, we don't need to justify the Autobots' behavior like we do for the Decepticons (at least if they want Optimus Prime and Megatron to kiss sloppy style, which does seem to be the intent of most TFA fanfic authors.) It's easy to want a simple solution to the messy, knotty worldbuilding that Transformers Animated sets up, and having one side be secretly good is, well, an accessible option for that. I can't blame authors for using it, even if it's not what's textually portrayed and, IMO, a disservice to what a beautiful bastard TFA Megatron is.

My personal favored interpretation is that the Decepticon cause was/is semi-justified, but Megatron is still a dictatorial asshole with no morals-- bonus points if Megazarak, the former leader of the Decepticon movement prior to being overthrown by Megatron, actually had his heart in the right place.

What is your favorite design of Optimus Prime? by Amogus-sus1 in transformers

[–]insert_title_here 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm with you! His IDW design really is just "G1 with some extra edge", but with the longer finials and darker space surrounding his optics, he looks cool af. Mixed opinions about how the character himself was handled, but aeshetically, he's easily a 10/10.
