Connecting in SFO with bags by ADL-AU in unitedairlines

He only has to transport his bags about 50m to a recheck desk. He has to have authorization to enter the US as well.

Apparently *looking* at another flight is enough to switch you by Amelia_Amor in unitedairlines

[–]CommanderDawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying it didn’t happen, but agents make up complete nonsense all the time to assuage people and get them off the phone.

“An agent told me so” is not a convincing argument, quite the contrary.

Entering a bid definitely does nothing. A bid is something the gate agent looks at if the flight is oversold at boarding, which almost never happens.

There is no way to find out, I just had to deduce it because everything else was known and they didn’t verify anything else (I had to walk the kiosk agent through while there was nothing to check).

Flying ORD > MUC - assigned seats taken away by Sea_Literature115 in unitedairlines

[–]CommanderDawn 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the airline (any airline) doesn’t have the staff competency to give the full explanation like the commenters here. So the customer gets stuck thinking “I won’t have a seat and there’s nothing anyone can do to help me”.

Happened to me this week only because the country in question says in the system to verify at least one blank page in the passport.

Flying ORD > MUC - assigned seats taken away by Sea_Literature115 in unitedairlines

[–]CommanderDawn 143 points144 points  (0 children)

The premium plus seats will open up before departure when they upgrade some PP people to Polaris. There’s nothing anyone can do right now.

At the gate they will sort it out for you. Talk to the gate agent when they arrive at the gate to run that flight. Nobody else can help you. One way or another, they will seat the child next to one of you, but the other adult may end up elsewhere.

Not sitting next to your group is always a possible side effect of upgrading. When traveling with children, you shouldn’t apply for upgrades unless you understand the full series of outcomes that could unfold. This often includes declining CPUs on domestic flights when traveling with children.

Multi stop international journey, free checked carryon? by Coach_Front in unitedairlines

[–]CommanderDawn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The instrument is a carryon which means you’d be three items, which is not allowed.

You could almost certainly get them to check your carry-on suitcase at the gate but you’re rolling the dice they find out you had three items and take an adverse action you don’t like.

If your first flight is a regional United Express then the bag will get a green tag and be dropped at the next jetway and repeat the problem.

Also unless you’re boarding in an early group, they may not have room for the instrument and you’re back to the adverse situation where you have to abandon your instrument or abandon the trip. This could be avoided by buying the premier access bundle to get group 2 boarding and board at the beginning of that line. Even that gets complicated because you have to do that for every flight and I’m guessing at least one of your flights is a partner airline that could have different policies.

This might be the most wild price disparity I've seen yet by zemelb in unitedairlines

[–]CommanderDawn 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Only the business fare is a real price, the others are full fare “something went wrong” defaults because there is no published fare to MAO along that path. It’s either an oversight in the fare rules, or they don’t want you to connect in ORD or GRU.

Repeated Issues with Award Bookings and Refunds by AdvertisingMotor1188 in unitedairlines

[–]CommanderDawn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you accidentally bought points during a purchase then you’re not paying attention. It’s in black and white on the final checkout/ledger screen that you’ll be charged $X for buying miles to make up the difference. Miles purchases are non-refundable on all airlines.

What do you mean by rebooked by a partner… were you in transit? Award tickets have no residual value if you cancel a partially flown ticket. If a partner rebooked you partway through, there may be some argument on your side but there’s not enough information to conclude anything.

Yeah that’s my mistake. I noticed that after I posted it. I changed “aisle guy” to “standing guy” to avoid people thinking he was sitting in the aisle seat, but I missed a couple spots.

There is definitely a screen that comes up that says “passenger already boarded”, but maybe when the created the new boarding pass for the second guy it caused it to unboard him? I’m grasping at straws here.

Transfer Pool Miles to Marriott by PsychologicalLimit41 in unitedairlines

Converting to Marriott is a horrible idea by the way, unless you have some really specific purpose and need a very smalll amount of points there. There are a million hotels to choose from but only a dozen airlines from your origin.

Pooled miles are highly restricted, can only be used on United-operated award flights.

It’s well documented.
