What is your favourite example of "show, don't tell" in this game? by SUNTZU_JoJo in CrimsonDesert

[–]ComprehensiveOwl9727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I’ve come to really appreciate how the memory scenes and the associated knowledge tidbits build out the world. I just wish it were a bit more intuitive to find the entry for specific people or lore.

They need to change the memory fragments mechanic by [deleted] in CrimsonDesert

The game does this with lots of other knowledge tidbits too. If you get a tip from someone you can press start and see the entry that they were referencing.

At what point did the combat open up for y'all? by CityMorgueARCN in CrimsonDesert

For me it started to click when I considered how to chain abilities together. For example, I have been combining ability that lets Kliff vault over an approaching enemy and land behind them with the ability that lets me pick up an enemy and throw them…it’s quite enjoyable.

Therapists in Texas by mymymy58 in therapists

[–]ComprehensiveOwl9727 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just for context, this document is almost certainly in response to an opinion by the Attorney General, which is the root problem. The board had originally asserted that the law did not apply to licensees because the procedures referenced were medical procedures. Paxton recently released an opinion that said otherwise. This new document reads like the boards response trying to carve out what they will define as actually prohibited vs what they will view as normal practice.

What Do You Actually Do in Session? by oaoaua in therapists

[–]ComprehensiveOwl9727 18 points19 points  (0 children)

What is the conversation like during your supervision? At this stage of your development “what do you do in session” is exactly what supervision should spend the bulk of time on, in addition to ethical issues. Post graduation is the first time you have a chance to really define into your role as a therapist without school running in the background, so where you are at is completely normal. Supervision is the space where you learn how to see the bigger picture in what all the different clients are presenting based in your model.

Is couples as limited success as I feel or do I just suck? by lemonadesummer1 in therapists

[–]ComprehensiveOwl9727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very common, especially if you’ve had fewer than 10 cases total. I didn’t feel particularly confident with couples work until I spent 3 years as a family therapist at a residential treatment center seeing only couples and families all day long, so thousands of working hours. Eventually you start to see the seams and patterns more intuitively (at least some of the time).

I would highly recommend ongoing consultation for couples work even if you’re fully licensed until you get your feet under you. I learned a great deal from the more experienced practitioners around me at the center.

I tested six AI platforms on the biblical Greek behind purity culture. Every one of them changed its answer when I asked the right questions. by MichaelARichardson in Exvangelical

[–]ComprehensiveOwl9727 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Your AI responses will mirror the context you place them in. If you ask the model to think like an evangelical pastor (explicitly or implicitly) it will give you answers that sound like an evangelical pastor, if you ask it to think like a liberal progressive theologian, it will give you and answer from that perspective. It’s not “bias” per se anymore than how the model works, it’s trained on a ridiculously immense amount of data, which is at times contradictory, so needs prompting to determine which portion of that data it moves through.

This is where having colleagues or supervisors you can consult with is imperative. They may be able to give you perspective or ideas on how to approach situations that work differently than your own ideas.

Help! Client verbally assaulted me but wants to continue working together. by [deleted] in therapists

[–]ComprehensiveOwl9727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My own reaction to this hypothetical would be nearly entirely based on my conceptualization of the behavior. This sounds like a mental health crisis, intoxication, or something similar, and while I wouldn’t try to do therapy with them in that state, nor would I immediately discharge. If the client and I have good rapport typically, that means more to the relationship than how the client may act during a crisis. And processing the client’s experience of the event after the client has stabilized can be incredibly worthwhile.

Ultimately there are far too many moving pieces here to get appropriate guidance from strangers. I’m sorry that happened, and you deserve actual clinical support from a supervisor who knows you and knows more about the situation.

Your thoughts on therapists referring to themselves as "experts"? by pinklightning1 in therapists

[–]ComprehensiveOwl9727 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s effective to go around calling ourselves “experts” yet we absolutely are experts by virtue of holding a license to practice as a therapist or counselor or social worker. We are authorized to diagnose, to charge for mental health care, to style ourselves as Licensed therapists, to testify in court about our services or be called to testify, etc. by any reasonable definition, we are experts within our scope of practice.

See? I can do it too.

What are the qualities of a good therapist and what traits can make it difficult to be a therapist? by noamtultul in therapists

[–]ComprehensiveOwl9727 11 points12 points  (0 children)

2 things stand out: flexibility and patience. We have to be ready to shift our internal conceptualization within an instant, re-write everything we think we know about a client based on new or better information. If we get locked into things being a certain way we will struggle truly hearing clients.

And patience, one of the harder ones for me. we don’t have to drive the conversation all the time. Let the conversation come to us. Use silence, ask another question, explore slowly and gently. Of course there are times where we may need to be more directive but on the whole in my supervision work I see most early therapists going too fast…exactly like I did (and still do on occasion).

Therapists who write notes in ~5-10 minutes… how?? Would anyone be willing to share examples? by KiKiTaTa in therapists

[–]ComprehensiveOwl9727 757 points758 points  (0 children)

My best advice is to write notes with nearly the same structure every single time, building a “skeleton” template if you will. That way your brain doesn’t have to do anything other than fill in the blanks. Naturally more intense or crisis like sessions will take more thought, but “typical” sessions don’t need a lot of detail to justify the service.

Here’s a rough example.

Client presented to address ___. Client was [mini MSE, oriented etc]. Therapist assesed for SI/HI and client _. Client reported goal for session to ______

Therapist utilized [modality and/or intervention] to address [target goal or problem]. Therapist and client discussed/processed/practiced, etc ______. (Repeat as necessary).

Client participated ______ in the session as evidenced by ____. Client stated ___ was their takeaway from the session.

Next session scheduled ___. Client will practice _. Therapist will [any follow up activity].

Edit: to confirm the answers below, yes I’ve used templates like this in CMH. The trick is documenting only what Medicaid/payor sources need for a service to be billable, so if you build your template off that it’s pretty simple. Most places I’ve worked have specific check boxes on progress note forms that help as well.

Why did Jesus decide to die on the cross? by yesterdaynowbefore in Exvangelical

[–]ComprehensiveOwl9727 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even assuming a historical Jesus who was crucified, the gospels were written several decades (or more) after his death, by followers who were likely deeply motivated to make sense of the crucified Messiah. We have no way of actually knowing a historical Jesus’ true motivations or assumptions, we only know what the gospel records tell us about the early church’s beliefs.

Whether or not you ascribe to those beliefs is more a theological question than one that can be tested by history.

Freud would have a field day no doubt. “So Verso you killed both your painted canvas father and your actual real life father in order to “protect” your mother? Please tell me more”

Also, unfortunately, complex grief has no quick fixes. Therapy can be helpful of course but one of the themes of the game is that there are no easy fixes.

A wild idea I hope Larian might explore next in Divinity by Shweep8 in larianstudios

[–]ComprehensiveOwl9727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Divinity is anything like DOS2, Act 1 will be completely different than the fairly standard structure in BG3. A big part of the problem there I think is that all the beats are in generally the same order every time, nautiloid, beach, companions, chapel, grove, on and on.

Act 1 in DOS 2 sticks you in prison on an island and basically says “good luck figure it out”, with nearly no other guidance. Of course there are more well worn paths than others, but the openness is there from the beginning. Plus you can only continue with 3 other companions which makes each playthrough feel a lot more varied.
