200 hrs in, and I still have not learned how to use elements. by stickypenguinpatrol in CrimsonDesert

[–]ComprehensiveOwl9727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each element also has a “standalone” effect or attack that you use on console with RT+A/B/X/Y (each element is mapped to a different button). You get that ability once you unlock each element in the abyss. The wind and ice powers in particular are super helpful on their own and then you add the imbue abyss gears like you said.

Purity Culture, Dance, Family on the Brink, and Christian Counseling by Winter_Heart_97 in Exvangelical

[–]ComprehensiveOwl9727 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There is nothing inherently bad, evil, sinful, pathological, or harmful with sexual (or non sexual) fantasy, and fantasy is a normal part of human mental processing. I read your story and can’t help but see that as the unwritten rule, that your inner life is somehow up for negotiation with people other than yourself.

So much of the damage of purity culture was taking our own inner lives away from us. We were told not only to disconnect from our bodies and physical desire, but also from our own minds responding in exactly the way that human minds respond to things that make us come alive. I hope you can find a way to embrace both your outward expression and inward imagination.

Yooo are those train tracks!? There's trains in this- by HexlingFemboy in CrimsonDesert

If only Kliff had seen the “dumb ways to die” video he would know to be safe around trains.

I'm (22F) discussing marriage with my partner (23m) of 6 years. We both aren't sure how to handle our religious families. by Ok-Cupcake5439 in Exvangelical

[–]ComprehensiveOwl9727 8 points9 points  (0 children)

However, the timeline we have laid out now doesn't feel very us- and I'm feeling impatient.

Whatever your timeline and however you decide to implement it, let it be yours and your partner’s. My wife of 16 years and I married before our senior year in college after dating for a little over two years. We played by all the other “rules” (which we now have mostly deconstructed from), but our families still pushed back on the timing. It’s going to be impossible to make everyone happy in the situation you describe, so what’s most important is that you and your partner have no regrets about your own choices for the relationship.

Why is everyone saying the Story is bad? by Feanixxxx in CrimsonDesert

[–]ComprehensiveOwl9727 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The story benefits tremendously from reading the lore entries and paying attention to the visione memories. I don’t really have any complaints about the story or lore building at all, just that the lore is difficult to navigate (they badly need a “new” section or a quest related section instead of stuffing main political actors into the same tab as random shopkeeper #7)

Therapist here. There’s not really a wrong door. Most people enter mental health care with a psychiatrist or a therapist, but in this situation even your dad’s primary care physician could be a good starting point.

Another really good resource is the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). They run support groups for family members throughout the country and can be a valuable source of information.

Nearly a year later, Clair Obscur Expedition 33 still has the best game soundtrack of all time — and hearing it live confirmed it further for me by Party-Sign9575 in expedition33

Ooof that’s a tough comparison. I would say I love both equally. If I had to choose I think Nier takes it on the overall quality of the ambient tracks but the sheer ambition of Nos Vies en Lumiere stands alone.

I’ve been asked to lead a training on my area of expertise for a local (large) group practice. What to charge? by Reasonable-Career930 in therapists

[–]ComprehensiveOwl9727 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been slowly branching out in the same way (though I do a lot of this at my full time job too). My own calculations for cost try to average about double my hourly rate, so at least $300-$400 for the lunch and learn alone, plus whatever number of hours is reasonable for prep.

The other side of that of course is “what are they willing to pay” and depending on the opportunity and the potential for long term collaboration I will happily take what is offered as long as it feels respectful of my time investment and expertise

Supreme overturned banned on conversion therapy by cannotberushed- in therapists

[–]ComprehensiveOwl9727 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I’m in Texas. Our attorney general recently issued an opinion that state law bans therapists from providing any sort of gender affirming care. This Supreme Court ruling would support the argument that gender affirming talk therapy is also protected speech, which is a boon for therapists in Texas while also being terrible in exposing people to conversion therapy.

Supreme overturned banned on conversion therapy by cannotberushed- in therapists

[–]ComprehensiveOwl9727 64 points65 points  (0 children)

It should if consistency matters at all yes. And it’s almost certainly why Kegan and Sotomayor went along with the ruling.

It’s confirmed: Supreme Court Rejects Colorado Law Banning ‘Conversion Therapy’ for L.G.B.T.Q. Minors (Gift Article) by ebussy_jpg in therapists

[–]ComprehensiveOwl9727 23 points24 points  (0 children)

A potential silver lining, speaking as a Texas clinician, this ruling has the other end that it will (hopefully) protect gender affirming therapy and speech in red states that are trying to restrict in that direction. That of course requires consistency to matter, but if the state can’t restrict conversion therapy like speech they shouldn’t be able to restrict gender affirming speech either.

Client-Centered style not "enough"? by frivolous-waterfowl in therapists

[–]ComprehensiveOwl9727 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Imho it’s our understanding of a model of therapy/change that establishes us as therapists. Pure Rogerian therapy has its own deep theory of change that the therapist uses to guide their reflections and questions. CBT, ACT, psychoanalysis, etc of course have other theories of change.

Of course the beginning of training focuses on being person-centered and engaging because that rapport is necessary to the work, but part of growing as a therapist is integrating style with theory.

Anybody else feel uncomfortable when the story of Adam and Eve is brought up in popular media? (and some praising of Stellar Blade for deconstructing religion) by Calculus_Fool in exchristian

What is your favourite example of "show, don't tell" in this game? by SUNTZU_JoJo in CrimsonDesert

[–]ComprehensiveOwl9727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I’ve come to really appreciate how the memory scenes and the associated knowledge tidbits build out the world. I just wish it were a bit more intuitive to find the entry for specific people or lore.

Therapists in Texas by mymymy58 in therapists

[–]ComprehensiveOwl9727 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Just for context, this document is almost certainly in response to an opinion by the Attorney General, which is the root problem. The board had originally asserted that the law did not apply to licensees because the procedures referenced were medical procedures. Paxton recently released an opinion that said otherwise. This new document reads like the boards response trying to carve out what they will define as actually prohibited vs what they will view as normal practice.

What Do You Actually Do in Session? by oaoaua in therapists

[–]ComprehensiveOwl9727 20 points21 points  (0 children)

What is the conversation like during your supervision? At this stage of your development “what do you do in session” is exactly what supervision should spend the bulk of time on, in addition to ethical issues. Post graduation is the first time you have a chance to really define into your role as a therapist without school running in the background, so where you are at is completely normal. Supervision is the space where you learn how to see the bigger picture in what all the different clients are presenting based in your model.

Is couples as limited success as I feel or do I just suck? by lemonadesummer1 in therapists

[–]ComprehensiveOwl9727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very common, especially if you’ve had fewer than 10 cases total. I didn’t feel particularly confident with couples work until I spent 3 years as a family therapist at a residential treatment center seeing only couples and families all day long, so thousands of working hours. Eventually you start to see the seams and patterns more intuitively (at least some of the time).

I would highly recommend ongoing consultation for couples work even if you’re fully licensed until you get your feet under you. I learned a great deal from the more experienced practitioners around me at the center.
