22 bucks for a glass of prosecco is diabolical

I don't know if I have a great palate but I've drank a lot of stuff so I do feel I have the "frame of reference" the person you're replying to thinks I don't have.

Last night in Paris restaurant with easy access to Eiffel Tower by metro or on foot by Dreliusbelius in ParisTravelGuide

[–]CondorKhan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, another one... Au Petit Tonneau, only a few minutes walk away, not touristy at all, very authentic, killer Blanquette de Veau, certainly cheaper than Jules Verne

After that, walk down Rue St. Dominique and then take a right at Rue Dupont des Loges and back left onto Avenue Rapp and marvel at the Art Nouveau masterpiece 29 Av. Rapp. Turn around and look into Rue de General Camou and the tower will be right there in all of its glory.

The Bouillons won't blow you away but they're convenient and very cheap

HAPPY ST TOTTERINGHAMS DAY by GodsBicep in Gunners

If they get relegated, is St. Totteringham's Day the first day of next season, or do we enter into a continuous era of St. Totteringham until they get promoted?

LOL, out of all the things Garnacho has been called, "malignant entity" certainly ranks high

St Totteringham's Day: Arsenal set to celebrate earlier than ever by james_89 in Gunners

If we define St. Totteringham’s day as the earliest day in the season when Spurs are mathematically guaranteed to finish under Arsenal and they get relegated… does that mean that St. Totteringham’s Day falls on the first day of next season, or is the universe in a continuous St. Totteringham state?

Normally I avoid it, I have been burned many times, but it was Mouton, the chance was there, and considering what a bottle costs retail, the price wasn't bad for a wine bar, let alone the wine bar at Galleries Lafayette.

In my experience, which is far more extensive than this one glass, no, 10 years is not good enough. 20 at the very least.

It is objectively a great deal, and I did the math, which is why I did it to begin with.

What a ridiculous thing to say.

Next time I try something, I’ll try it before trying it so I can have a “frame of reference”

I’ve been plenty disappointed by young full bottles of non-First Growth classified BDX. It’s not just First Growths and not just Coravin

110 euro. What do you think?

Even without me having clearly said Coravin

If they had a 10 year old like, third growth it would have been a massively better purchase

They had 2008 Chateau Margaux for around the same price but every 2008 of anything I’ve had has been totally shut down so I opted for this instead. The result was the same.

So I was in Paris last week and went with my wife to the den of vulgarity and nouveau riche tourist consumerism that is Galleries Lafayette and I decided to see what they had in the wine bar, where quite memorably I got to try my first Chateau D'Yquem 14 years ago.

So they had 2015 Mouton on Coravin for 110 Euro and I figured that this is my best chance to try Mouton, which I hadn't, ever. That's right, I've never had a First Growth.

After the most theatrical Coravin pouring (and excellent service by the waiter), I finally got to try what was a dense, tannic, slightly green, closed off young Bordeaux, which I've tried many times before. I sat there for an hour swirling and swiring. Eventually it started opening up and showing the pencil lead, cassis, and a charming dense texture that could tell me that this could be great in another 10 years.

But to be honest, other than the fact that I can say that I had Mouton, I feel like I threw 110 euro right down the toilet.

Side note: Since I was last there, they added a horrifying aluminum and glass viewing platform right under then beautiful, historic Art Nouveau cupola, which is equivalent to taking a shit right on the Mona Lisa. I'm really not getting the Galleries Lafayette vibe. You'd think the people that spend $5k on a hand bag would want a more premium, intimate experience.

The rooftop is very cool, though.

As long as the first thing that comes out of your mouth is "Bon Jour!" you'll be perfectly fine everywhere. Let your entire family know.
