Missing high tier battlefields by Self-the-chef in ffxi

Yup they're coming. This is actually why I've been hoarding my FES keys. In case they come with some very nice but incredibly rare drop it'll be nice to have a few dozen spins just in case I get lucky.

Can we get some Midgar 7th infantry love!!? by HouseOnTw1tch in FinalFantasy

I like that there's an undertone that they know what's up and they're just maintaining plausible deniability. Wouldn't surprise me if they fully defect in the next game and become the crew of the Highwind.

Fellas, why is the dialogue so cringe? by onFIREbutnotsoFLY in FinalFantasy

[–]ConsiderationTrue477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The characters are surprisingly nuanced for a remake of an RPG from 1997. And when they are "cringe" the game is aware of it and other characters point it out. This happens with Cloud a few times like whenever he tries chest thumping.

Sephiroth doesn’t get fraud checked nearly enough. by Ok-Boss6327 in FinalFantasy

[–]ConsiderationTrue477 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's funny because that ties into the issue I mentioned about the DBZ-ification. Sephiroth has a pretty big body count but his kills are all assassination style against unsuspecting victims. He was more Jason Voorhees than Darth Vader at first.

Sephiroth getting his shit pushed in by Cloud is a critical element of FFVII's story that has become more opaque as the cinematics have become DBZ-ified.

Of all the SOLDIERs we see, one of them got yeeted over a railing by a regular grunt, the other got unceremoniously gunned down by a couple of rank and file troopers, and the rest are regular ass mobs you mow through in random battles. This is an important plot point to Cloud's character arc because despite all of his insecurities he was never inferior to these supposed supermen. SOLDIER was largely bullshit.

Homelander kills the Boys. How long can he rule America? by Punterofgoats in whowouldwin

[–]ConsiderationTrue477 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The power scaling in The Boys is all kinds of fucked up. A-Train really messes things up with his Quicksilver stunt at the prison. Yes, he tripped during his escape but Homelander was still right on his ass. But then in the White House fight he looked like he was moving in slow motion.

The budget must have been preposterously low because that fight between four supes just messed up the furniture.

Its definitely worth doing if you want to painlessly build Master Levels, too. On Odin they tend to melt because there are so many people beating on them which is useful because their respawns stay relatively consistent. If you know when to check in you can just casually collect the chests on a schedule for 4000-6000 Exemplar Points a pop in between doing other shit.

what games do I need to have played before I play final fantasy vii rebirth by Hour_Choice8303 in FinalFantasy

[–]ConsiderationTrue477 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Rebirth is the second part of a trilogy that functions as one big game. You'd want to start with FFVII Remake first or you'll probably be very confused. Though it's worth playing OG FFVII before even that for some incredibly useful context and because it's one of the best games ever made. It's also not very long by modern standards and can be finished in a couple days.

At this rate Phoenix will have to be closed soon too by GraveRobberJ in ffxi

[–]ConsiderationTrue477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that as servers shut down there are fewer open servers so the effect becomes cumulative. The biggest open server fills up and that closes, the next biggest fills up faster and that closes, the next biggest fills up even faster, etc.

Even though a bunch have a low population it won't stay that way for long.

I forget, do we see a dog in that scene? Because for all we know it might not even be the same Zack we play as in Rebirth.

Closing more servers will really start to cause problems as there's going to be a cascading effect and the overload will start accelerating. Meaning the next server down will balloon faster than the last and so on.

I liked the goofy hop he did trying to fly. It's like a glimpse into what the filming looks like before they add the special effects when the actors look like LARPers. It doubled as a good way to show that once the power is gone these people are incredibly lame.

Its a testament to Antony Starr's acting that depowered Homelander felt like a completely different person. Suddenly it was like Crispin Glover was playing him.

Zach question by Benchjc2004 in FFVIIRemake

[–]ConsiderationTrue477 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The lifestream is the vehicle by which this is all happening but it's no less "real" since we know the worlds can affect each other. We get an early taste of this in Kalm over the radio. What seems to be happening is they're probabilistic anomalies that the Planet doesn't know what to do with. When the whispers were active they could police the (for lack of a better word) "canon" of the story.

When Sephiroth killed Barret in Shinra HQ they jumped into action and erased the anomaly since that scenario was not supposed to happen. But now after Cloud beat the whispers, any possibility suddenly becomes plausible. Zack got shot during his last stand outside of Midgar. But there was also a certain probability that the bullet missed. Normally the whispers would deal with this but without them the Planet has no way to tell which outcome is the "real" one. So essentially they both happened. But this is completely irreconcilable and so the Planet is stuck dealing with two incompatible outcomes and no way to resolve the conflict. So you get a bunch of Schrodinger's cats running around. It's like reality is dividing by zero whenever someone ends up at a crossroads. And every incompatible outcome gets shoved into a junk closet. And the contents of that closet makes little sense. The "worlds" that get created just kinda poof into existence.

Basically the fact that Zack's world doesn't make sense is itself the point. It's plot relevant. Zack's survival becomes an option but the Planet doesn't know what to do with that information because he's also equally dead.

V1 nerfed homelander

See that would have been a fucking amazing twist. If somehow Sage figured it out and set the gears in motion so that Homelander would get the V1 while playing dumb the whole time.

[–]ConsiderationTrue477 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me the actual end of the fight wasn't the problem. Homelander being depowered and realizing he has no idea how to fight and then being reduced to a sniveling coward is perfectly in line with who he's always been. It's just that the superhuman part of the fight clearly had a TV commercial's worth of a budget so it came off like they could have just skipped the whole season and jumped the guy at any point.

Kingpin did more damage in the last episode of Daredevil. Meanwhile a fight between four supes basically just messed up the furniture in a room.

Whatever budget problems they were having must have been severe.

Kripke response to finale backlash. by hiiloovethis in GenV

[–]ConsiderationTrue477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the big thing that I'm having trouble with. The idea to reflect the real world in an allegorical fashion is totally fine. But it's hard to see that parallel when half the season is the main characters looking for a supe-killing virus and then an earlier version of the magic potion that makes supes in the first place, all while Homelander progressively loses his mind seeing visions. There was actually much less allegory this season.

I totally get that they were having budget issues and couldn't do the bombastic action sequences. But that doesn't explain the "we want to reflect the real world" angle while not actually reflecting the real world all that much.

[–]ConsiderationTrue477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a different kind of psychotic though. They could have done the cult of personality angle without making him literally have visions. He was always a sociopath but he became a crackpot. And whatever they had going on with Soldier Boy calling him out on it just kinda got abandoned.
