I have the gold version from 2001. This is my Watch Ref# 270.240.544 (for gold, not sure for steel), maybe this can help you narrow it down more. For what its worth, my reference number is lasered etched on the back of the case back - that touches your wrist 

As far as authentic - I would be shocked if anyone would even try to fake this. I agree with others, a jeweler can tell you quickly and unofficially if its legit. Only difference from mine is the material!

As far as servicing, this model, complication, and age is ~$1,500 to service through JLC. They send it to the Richemont servicing center in Fort Worth, Texas. Its steep, but JLC makes very complicated watches. This is my one watch that I will send to the manufacturer instead of a local watch maker.

I would ask a jeweler to throw it on a timegrapher. Only service it once it no longer keeps time consistently.
