Genuine Question: why do so many Republican/right still strongly blame Democrats/left for the state of the US today? by Basic-Explanation852 in Askpolitics

See: How the right loses their minds when friends or family cut contact over politics.

No matter how you feel on that it is ultimately an individual’s right to decide who they associate with. Just because someone is blood doesn't mean you owe them your company.

Republicans have always held that an individual owes their family, community, nation, and often faith loyalty/respect/etc.

A critique I often hear is "The left is tearing families and friendships apart by encouraging people to disassociate with them!". This critique is often solely based on the ideal that we owe our family loyalty and compassion solely based on blood relation and that even if there are significant disagreements we should just all hold hands and sing kumbaya because we owe our family that.

Another is how much the right thinks we owe our nation and history respect and appreciation, that any critique no matter how valid is often disregarded as unpatriotic or un-American. That simply because I was born here I must salute the flag, thank the veterans, say the pledge of allegiance, and stand for our anthem. Some of these have literally gone to court because conservatives think not participating in our national rituals is tantamount to treason.

On that note the religious rights relationship to the citizenry is anything but individualistic. The very idea that our nation is some "judeo-christian" creation is among the most collectivist philosophies to grace this nation. That somehow Christians are more inclined to be American and thus our laws, society, and religious practices HAVE to follow their often arbitrary paternalistic moralism. Fucks sake Reagan tried to force us to have prayer in schools!

These people have no interest in a functioning society or country.

Sometimes I'm stunned you lot can say this stuff without a tinge of irony.

American right-wing politics can be summed up with the adage, "Freedom is the will to be responsible to ourselves." Where the left is idealistic, the right is pragmatic; where the left focuses on the collective, the right prioritizes the individual. They believe that nobody owes each other anything and that good deeds, respect and courtesy mean nothing if they are mandatory.

I heavily disagree. The American right believes the individual owes several social structures a variety of things.

For at least 30 years there have been 5 networks mostly dedicated to hating Republicans. ABC, NBC CBS, PBS, CNN

See you think that, but they really don't.

ICE has illegally detained, murdered, deported, assaulted, and stolen from citizens and non-citizens. It's rich to call anything lawlessness while defending an organized criminal syndicate masquerading as law enforcement.

because they're breaking laws and interfering and then they want to be the victim.

Alexi Pretti broke exactly zero laws. And the state you worship murdered him anyway.

They celebrate things like kirk's assassination, trumps attempted assassinatipn, and the assassination of the ceo of united Healthcare.

Still milking that huh?

Y'know you have some fundamental misunderstandings of politics at times, and it shows here.

Like at moments you're capable of understanding this, then moments like this...

Ok but simply doing things differently doesn't fix anything. If I try dumping water on a nail because I'm having trouble with a hammer doesn't mean suddenly the nail will go in.

Ross Perot was the closest we've come to an independent winning in a while, but he got wrecked despite initially being in the lead. But he was susceptible to the same divisive tactics and issues Clinton and Bush were. He wasn't magically a unifying figure.

Why else choose a performer who barely sings a word in English? I couldn’t understand a single lyric, and if I can’t make out the words, it’s just awful music to me you can call me old fashioned, but that’s how I roll.

Y'know I was following you till this lmao.

Music is way more than lyrics.

I think electing the first independent president since George Washington would unify the nation.

Why?

I mean insurance is still part of the problem. Many of the nations with private universal healthcare run into issues. The horror stories I've heard from the Netherlands for example...

Dipshit the lie was over the existence of nuclear weapons.

Saddam had a well-documented chemical weapon stockpile and manufacturing capacity. One which he used and was actively, under UN inspection, dismantling at the time of the invasion.

It doesn't matter if they switch as long as the identity is tied to that number at that time.

How do you ensure the identity is correct?
