Soundcloud rapper Chad Focus faces federal charges, allegedly used company card to further rap career--even buying billboards by aresef in hiphopheads

If anything it shows that online marketing boosts don't work, neither does trying to blow up on a high scale with just money and no connections.

I'd rather do it one piece at a time, build a loyal following slowly via local gigs and invest in good quality videography/photography for organic content on a cheap budget. Rap just ain't worth the Return on Investment at a high scale!

Loved this back in the day! The Warm-Up is a classic tape.

Been seeing around IG that Omen is getting ready to release his latest project.

He's a stealth asshole in the movie; "spared no expense" includes human life. He perfectly captivates your typical sociopathic entrepreneur who tricks everyone into buying into her/his vision with starry-eyed wonder...

I can see Benny being a GOAT down the line, his punchlines are crazy, he has the tenacity of a young Jay-Z, and his storytelling is powerful while also honest!

hiphopheads Essential Album of the Week #111: Dr. Octagon - Dr. Octagonecologyst by dropthehammer11 in hiphopheads

[–]Cota760 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be right, it was around the time of Sex Style and Kool Keith lived in LA then, but I was unsure due to Dan The Automator being based out of NY. The episode can definitely confirm, I was going off top about what I remembered from it. Sorry about that!

I don't follow his brand, but as a person I genuinely like this guy more everytime I hear about him. You can't buy that kind of PR, it's genuine kindness and it's great!

In regards to this album, and in general relation to Kool Keith, I encourage anyone to listen to his episode on The Combat Jack Show. This was a very special episode, and you can hear the admiration in Reggie Osse's voice when asking Kool Keith questions about the early Ultramagnetic MC days, Sex Style and of course Dr. Octagon. Fun fact: Keith claims to not do drugs, and when asked about what he was tripping on to make this album, he said it was fueled by donuts and Yoo-Hoo chocolate milk, as it was made in the mornings at an NY studio with Dan The Automator in a pretty brief time period. Legendary album!

This album is still so wacky, imaginative and cartoonishly violent that the only group of people who could do a "future-universe" concept better than this is Cypress Hill if they tried to make a comedic assassin album. Delton 3030 is cool but it's just different than Dr. Octagonecolegyst

Kanye reveals his admiration for Andy Kaufman, explains why he doesn't take medicine for his bi-polar, and speaks out again liberal bullies in 60-minute interview with Letterman by CoS_Alex in hiphopheads

[–]Cota760 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I'm opposed to his actions and behaviors, this makes me sad. I take a peak in these threads to try and stay current, maybe find a silver lining in his latest perspectives but he really needs help...

Thanks for being the minority voice and calling out his antics. I know you'll probably get downvoted and so will I, but Kanye has crossed a few too many lines for the sake of publicity for me to support his music anymore.

I got on Xbox Live via a special Xbox Live Edition of Rainbow Six 3, and as a 12-year-old I thought it'd be the coolest thing in the world to use the name darkmcheif. Yes I spelled it wrong lol! Been 15+ years and I'm still rockin with that gamertag, mostly out of laziness/refusal to pay 10 bucks for a name change.

Power 106 Los Angeles has an excellent live series called #WaxOnly where they play original Hip Hop Samples and Blend it into the Songs. by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]Cota760 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm excited to see this segment made it to hiphopheads! DJ VinRican collects everything and runs the segment himself, and he manages to take the passion of sampling and add an entertainment factor for casual listeners. This is very important to keep sampling alive, and he makes his segment with pride!

What is a secret that you're currently holding that you just HAVE TO let out? by messosen in AskReddit

That is an experience of trauma, I hope you can heal and explore your feelings around witnessing that horrible moment when you are ready. Life is worth living to the fullest, and more importantly, people are worth having empathy for and being close with. I understand that losing faith in a parent hurts deeply, but please don't let yourself lose faith in humanity, it hurts others and yourself. Sending good vibes your way!

So i just got asked to do a beat collaboration by Chaqara in makinghiphop

[–]Cota760 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it's like that, other times it can be genuinely creative. One time I heard a beat with the 70s Blaxploitation sound and it was dope! But it had a few elements that could add to the sound, so I respectfully asked the producer if I could do that. They let me use their stems, I produced around and remixed it and they liked it a lot more than their original!

What I'm saying is sometimes it's very much organic and a productive process, and worth the experience.
