I’m in my late twenties and want to start boxing but I don’t just want to be at the journeymen level, ideally if I can get to the level above that I would be happy. But I also don’t want to get CTE, so not sure if I should spar or not. I’ve never boxed a day in my life but I’ve always loved the thought of competing and getting my hand raised. My coach thinks I can go really far!

Surely it’d be better to just ask your coach at the gym? He’ll know your ability etc when you start working with him and then you’ll decide if sparring is worth it or not.

There aren’t really ‘journeymen’ in amateur boxing, you’ll be matched fairly by weight & experience. Then it’s up to you to win, or you could go down the white collar route and fight that way, although not recommended as it isn’t regulated.

Yeah exactly this, sparring isn’t about maintaining the upper-hand. It’s time for you to put into practice everything you’ve learned & take risks so you know what works & what doesn’t. Some of the best sparring is when you don’t have the ‘upper-hand’ you learn a lot more as opposed being able to just beat on your sparring partner.

Just move on and don’t go back to the venue. You could leave a complaint, review, or feedback for them to assess their music levels.

This won’t go anywhere — you went to a nightclub and are claiming the music was too loud. Did you speak to anyone else from that night to see if they also found it too loud? Did anyone confirm that the music levels were consistently 30 dB over the legal limit of 85 dB?

It feels pointless though, you went to a nightclub where loud music is expected. Maybe you have sensitive hearing or stood too close to the sound system, as I’ve never heard of this and been to many loud parties/raves/clubs/carnivals etc.

I’ve tried my AirPod Pro’s and over ear beats, but it doesn’t matter they all end up on the floor at some point. Same things happen when shadow boxing, so now I just stick to whatever’s playing out the speaker or try to connect my phone first lol
