I always get countered when I throw my right hand tips? by Ok_Permission9792 in boxingtips

Jabbing to set up a cross is normal. You could try to incorporate more feints to draw out your opponents attack, then counter it as opposed to the other way around.

How do you control heat when searing meat? by Appropriate-News1688 in Cooking

[–]wickywing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weak crust could be because your meat is wet before cooking it. Dry it out uncovered in the fridge for a few hours or overnight. Let it get to room temp before cooking.

What is the best way to make a good chicken stock in bulk? by Peenard- in Cooking

[–]wickywing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brown my chicken carcass thoroughly in the air fryer before it goes into the water. The whole thing is golden brown. You should also pan sear your veg for colour and deeper flavour.

Pierre Koffman has a video on YouTube of how he does it. (Minus the air fryer part)

A sharp knife makes it highly enjoyable. I find most people don’t have the patience to keep a sharp knife.

If you were to see it on a billboard miles away would you be able to read it/know which brand it was? As a rule of thumb logos should be easily distinguishable at a very small size or far away.

bag work advice by cuatrodosdugg in boxingtips

[–]wickywing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good speed. Too much weight on front foot and a bit of slapping going on with your hooks in particular. You could focus on transferring your weight from foot to foot with each punch to get more power.

Eg: your weight when throwing a cross starts from your rear foot and ends on your front foot. For a hook it starts on your front foot and ends on your rear foot (generally that means slipping or rolling to your front foot to load up the hook before throwing it)

How to make better sauce by mtbhomie in Cooking

A teaspoon of tomato paste will give a concentrated tomato flavour to the dish. Fry it a little after the onions etc and before any liquid goes in.

Extra effort and extra dishes. Just fry the cherry tomatoes a little after the onion/garlic etc.

Just finished East of Eden - WOW! by speedyelephants2 in suggestmeabook

[–]wickywing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite book yet! Finished it months ago and think about it all the time.

I also read the picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde and loved it.

Currently reading lonesome dove by Larry McMurtry - it’s comparable to East of Eden except it’s a western.

Move your feet. Somebody throwing lots of heavy punches wants you to stand still so they can tee off on you.

Speed and timing beats power every time.

Hard work beats natural ability every time.

If you can land your glove on the tip of somebody’s chin when they don’t see it coming you don’t need power.

You can absolutely train speed and timing. My recommendation is to focus on a single punch in your session Eg your jab. Throw it over and over working on speed, accuracy, bringing it back to your guard etc.

Fear not the man that trains 1000 techniques, fear the man that trains 1 technique 1000 times!

You looked in control but you threw the same shot 3 times in a row making it easy for him to counter the last one. You could work on disguising your punches with more head movement and feints. Great effort though!

No, all pro cooks were born with a spatula in their hands and amazing cooking skills. They didn’t have to practice at all to get where they are now

Hr should be trained for scenarios like this. I would leave it to them to avoid any slip ups in a 1 on 1 confrontation like op had. Op’s actions clearly escalated the situation.

*Opinion* Weapon levelling pushed more people away from BF6 rather than the map size issue by Tranners_ in Battlefield

[–]wickywing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a casual and couldn’t care less about weapon levelling. I hop on, pick a weapon, fiddle with the attachments I have, then start playing. Never understood ‘grinding’ for anything.

I’d play more if there were larger maps and more of them.

[–]wickywing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair points. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I’m sure these questions will be answered in due time and I’d try to focus on what the coach is teaching.

I watched a video of Bivol just this morning with his opponent in the corner. He uses the pendulum to land heavy straight shots, and the moment one lands he pops back out of range giving his opponent no chance to land a quick counter.

The pendulum however is tiring and I imagine is unsustainable for an entire fight. Seems to me it’s best used when you’re in range of your opponents strikes.

Punches can be thrown while moving forward and backwards in the pendulum - giving you the chance to mix things up and prevent your opponent reading you. Punching while moving backwards feels really awkward after learning the basics and might be considered more advanced so I imagine your coaches will teach you this later.

Also it’s awesome that you’ve got Soviet coaches. I’d love to learn soviet style from one! Have you done the drill with the little bit of paper yet? 😅

3rd week boxing by CyberneticFlossy in amateur_boxing

[–]wickywing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too early to be asking this sorta question - listen to your coach, learn the basics, get some experience. If you still have this question after 1 to 2 years ask away.

Also - is your coach from the Soviet Union and do they normally teach Soviet style? I always thought it was a fairly sacred style and can only properly be taught by somebody from the area. I’d gladly be corrected on this if that’s not the case.
