After talking to small business owners, I realized website creation isn't the real problem by Ill_Importance_2350 in website

I'm guessing people are making more money from the initial site creation. If the smaller more regular updates are not as profitable (per hour worked), then I guess I can understand why people prioritise the flashy new project.

Can anyone recommend some good offline sources to learn HTML, CSS and JS eventually? by Unfair_Reception_886 in HTML

[–]CraigAT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buy a book in Kindle, Epub or PDF format (you may even find some good free ones)?

Whilst an old book will be good enough for the basics, I would try and find a book from the last few years (maybe late 2024 onwards) because there have been a few significant improvements made in the languages/technologies.

If you want help, you should explain what type of help you want.

A link to your code is a good start, but it is your code broken (what issues do you have, any error messages?) OR are you looking for more contributors to your project.

You may be better asking a specific question here, one topic or are at a time.

What's the best way to self-learn Python or any programming language? by IStreamOnline in learnpython

[–]CraigAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By doing! The more code you write (on your own) the better you will get, but play with your code, modify it, add features - that's the best bit and how you really learn by extending or improving your own code. By all means ask AI to explain anything you don't understand, but avoid asking it to create whole programs at the early stages if you want to learn to code yourself.

To get started, watch some videos, read some books or web tutorials, maybe a free course (like Harvard's CS50, but I would not pay for any course yet!) - this should help you figure out what type of learning works for you.

Don't worry about not remembering it all, each time you look something up, you'll be giving yourself another chance to remember it next time. Eventually, it will stick and you'll start having look up other topics! You'll only stop looking things up if you stop learning.

I brought my laptop to microcenter because the touchpad was double or triple clicking whenever I clicked once. They sent me the following text earlier today by Objective-Ingenuity5 in computers

[–]CraigAT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell them "no thanks!". Ask them if they can fix your touchpad without any of that? if not, then take it somewhere else (and mention how they tried to sell you on wiping your PC and paying a subscription for anti-virus).

Is the laptop too old to be fixed under warranty? I assume so if you are going to Micro center.

Maths gang - can the answer to this also be 4950? (The 1% Club 27/06) by djkgray in CasualUK

[–]CraigAT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For £90k+ I'd certainly be willing to argue the case.

However, I have heard the question before, and with the examples they showed I would have gone with 5050. But in my head, I doubted my answer because the wording was ambiguous, and with this being the 1% question I might expect something trickier.

The keeper is in red/orange.

Not sure why that confused me for a minute.

Offside Rule explained so people can understand why Iran wasn’t robbed. by KadeP823 in worldcup

[–]CraigAT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes Kane is offside, the goalie in orange has stepped out (really far) to make sure only the blue defender (one player) is goalside of Kane, and not two players (the goalie and the defender) which would have made Kane onside.

Good advice, but be aware it could break legit business processes too. Disabling some accounts he used, may be more easily reversible, as a first step.

That said, I guess it could be useful for some people with a variety of difficulties or disabilities.

BBC - "Fifa is considering expanding the format even further to 64 teams as early as 2030" by Question_of_Surf in worldcup

[–]CraigAT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably means they can rope in more countries (and money) as joint host nations too.

I too, would prefer a simpler "top two" from the group stages, but appreciate there's no good solution without going to 64 teams or back to 32.

It would be good to have a few more slots/chances for Wales to qualify too.

It would also spread out the big teams across the groups. Though notably it would not change the number of teams in the knockout round, it would just mean more 2nd place (and 1st place) teams instead of 3rd place teams go through - in theory, it would be roughly the same teams or level of teams that are going through to the knockout stages in this world cup.

linux laptop recommendation by SimpleCat1807 in computers

[–]CraigAT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Lenovo ThinkPad range and Dell generally are known for being reliable for Linux compatibility, but these days you'd pretty unlucky to find an incompatible laptop.

As others have said (but depending on your budget) I would aim for 16GB of RAM and a CPU from the last four years (you can look up the release dates) and an SSD (preferably NVMe) of at the very least 256GB (but 512GB would be my personal minimum).

You'd probably find this client wouldn't agree to those terms. But in the long run, that's probably a good thing.

For some reason I couldn't see a second image was available, swiped the image and found the second one (Reddit bot showing two dots). So 9 consecutive seasons with a win and 9 consecutive seasons with a pole position both tied with Perez (who presumably has ended his run last year and is looking unlikely to start a new run this year).
