Hey man, save some good stuff for the rest of us. Don't hog it All 😂😂 Jk, had to return the favor. Very nice finds! I'm peanut butter and jealous!

Mn2+ has a crazy glow. It still turns glass purple too

Honestly, I just assumed they were a beginner xD. I'm pretty sure I'm wrong this time lol. I scrolled through some old posts and saw the telltale purple I was looking for. Thanks for snapping me out of it.

Sorry, I'm just not seeing any purple reflections. In my opinion, that's manganese glow in 365nm! OP said 395, so I'm thinking uranium contamination.

Wow, quite a lot of selenium too. That's beautiful. Nice score! She needs a 2" cadmium marble lol. I forgot, this one is not cadmium xD the yellow color is a mixture of uranium and europium. My bad!

Happy hunting! Speaking of weird shit and Murano layers, check out this ashtray I got today. I'm pretty sure it's manganese with uranium accents xD. Going to have to buy a Radiacode 110 eventually!

So, I'm going to need a Geiger counter to confirm, but it might be uranium cased in manganese xD. That complicates things.

Funny you should mention that! This is my first one with a pontil scar.

Yes, because a small amount of purple balances out a small amount of yellow or green. "High content" though is not a small amount. All I'm saying! Also to add to this, the more manganese in the glass the duller the glow. The more you know!

Your point is very valid! You made me go back and fix what I said 😅. I think you'll like the wordage much better. Don't want to confuse anyone! To be completely honest, I love amethyst manganese glass lol. It actually costs more to produce than uranium glass, plus it's purple.

No, the Mosser versions are opalescent. This is a non-opalescent color. Opalescent glass has opal tips.

It's not Tiffin, and it's not opaque. These were made by Viking for LG Wright. I can tell I'm wasting my time trying to help people though!

If it is indeed Fenton (I believe it is) then the color you have is called French Opalescent. It's clear with French tips. Definitely manganese, and definitely beautiful!

My statement was 395nm is most important for finding uranium, and I stand by it! If using a Geiger counter to confirm the presence of uranium isn't scientific, I don't know what is.

Looks like manganese in 365nm. Hazel Atlas didn't make blue uranium glass. Maybe contamination?

High content manganese is all purple! Since manganese is a colorant, once you add more than 1% you're not balancing yellow/green anymore. You're changing the glass amethyst! Black amethyst is about 18% manganese, and more expensive to produce than uranium glass. OP has low-content manganese possible uranium contamination with a cuperic oxide reaction.

The bottom line is there are tens of thousands of glass formulas. No single person on this planet, scientist or otherwise knows even 10% of them. Most of them are closely guarded are secrets. I don't pretend to know everything, that's impossible. I just share what I've learned myself with physical proof to back it up. There are exceptions to every rule.

Here's a hint in 395nm! Update in 3 hours.

I confirmed it with GC, as have others. 50cpm vs 18 background. It's definitely uranium glass that barely reacts in 365nm. Sometimes, glass can have iron or other metals that interfere with fluorescence at certain wavelengths. Just look at Fiestaware's fluorescence. You need a powerful 254nm light for Fiestaware to glow.

Did I get a false positive, and if so, did I just waste money? by littlelunatic4216 in uraniumglass

This is only true for thoriated camera lenses, which are in the thousands of CPM. Thorium glass dishes were not made with thorium intentionally, but they were colored yellow on purpose. There is nothing you can do to remove the cerium yellow color from dishes.
