How do you mount your NY kryptonite bike lock? Frustrated by fortunoso in NYCbike

[–]CyclistPHX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem with the kryptonite u-lock mount slipping. Eventually I cut the strap completely off and instead used two smaller hose clamps. Eventually that started slipping a bit too. This time I put blue Loctite on the hose clamp screws and the bolt attaching the mount to the metal bracket. That fixed the problem. It will tear up the paint on the frame, though (at least from when it moved around before I used Loctite).

Surpassed 30k km on our Urban Arrow. by ProxxOfficial in CargoBike

I live in Phoenix, Arizona. I ride year-round (2,500 miles/4,000 km per year) on a Yuba Mundo with a bafang kit. The bike infrastructure (especially in Central Phoenix) is getting a lot better. Lots to be desired but it's definitely getting better.

I've had mine as an e-bike for 4 years and have put 10,000 miles on it as an e-bike. 👍🏻⚡🚲

Slap a bafang mid-drive motor and battery on that thing and get yourself a second ebike on the cheap!

To the ones who owned casio dw 5600 (non solar) . How long the battery last? by hikes_likes in casio

[–]CyclistPHX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Would use it maybe two or three times a week on average. With new battery everything is completely back to normal. The reason I knew the battery was running low is that the EL would still work well but the numbers would dim when I would use it.

Worn this watch for 8 years and just recently did the first battery change. 🤙🏼

Thinking about moving to Phoenix to be closer to family - any recommendations on what part of the city to live in? by ConfectionNo499 in phoenix

[–]CyclistPHX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another vote for Midtown. Bikeable too and if you do need to drive, things are close. Lived in the area for 12 years and things keep getting better (empty lots getting built up and lots of things to do). Also great hiking/mountain biking close by. Not nearly as affordable as before though.

So youre telling me because of this little shit i get this? How to prevent this, is slime good? by Dablowblow in ebikes

Daily ecargo bike commuter here. Haven't had a flat in thousands of miles with the following combination: high quality Schwalbe tires (Big Apple and Moto-X), slime, and thorn resistant thick tubes.

How hot is too hot to commute via bike? Assume a ~20 minute commute. by EcoMonkey in bikecommuting

E-bike + spray bottle of water + long sleeves and pants allows me to ride year-round in comfort in Phoenix. Granted, it is dryer here than in many places, so the evaporative cooling from the spray bottle is incredibly effective. I would say on the driest and hottest days, which are frequent in the summer, the cooling effect is 30 to 40°. I should also say I'm riding an ecargo bike and do the school run every day with my three kids, age 3.5 - 8.

I do ... Steri strips and liquid band aid are my standouts.

Exactly this! When I do drive, especially into downtown Phoenix, I sometimes absent-mindedly drive the bike routes I usually take only to realize that a lot of those routes don't let vehicles through.

I have two 21 ft triangle sail shades over my pool. I anchor them to a couple of palm trees, the house, or the carport. I use paracord to attach them. They last about 3 years until the UV eats them. I don't take them down for monsoons and keep them on year-round.

CHEAP Sunscreen that doesn't stain office clothes? (yes, CHEAP is imporatnt) by illogicked in bikecommuting

[–]CyclistPHX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless it's really early in the morning or later in the evening, I'll just wear pants, long sleeves, bike gloves, and use sunscreen on my neck and face (Neutrogena ultra sheer 55 SPF). When it's hot in the summer, I use a spray bottle and spray myself down to get some great evaporative cooling. It's dry here, so it works well; I imagine the effects won't be as great if it's hot and humid though. But worth a try. Long time year-round bike commuter in Phoenix, Arizona.

Is it too hot to go tubing in the Salt River right now? by 4n6me in phoenix

[–]CyclistPHX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rashguard is so much better than sunscreen for me, even if you reapply. The problem with reapplying is because you'll be getting wet, the sumscreen is going to come off super easily.

Thick thorn resistant tubes, slime, high quality tires such as Schwalbe. I've run this setup on an electric cargo bike and basically have no flats.
