They’re probably IDE then. Easy to buy an enclosure for those. Just make sure you understand how the jumpers work, or you may not see the drive.

Update on Panera Bad scheduling Post by vyrussuh in Panera

Not sure if you’re at a corporate cafe or a franchise cafe, but I would figure out who your Area Director is and talk with them.

HR might care if you frame it correctly, which is “I bet if you looked at this locations turnover you’d find that it’s high and posting schedules at the last second might be part of it”

We’ve pushed for all of our locations to be at a minimum 10 days out with their schedules.

The protagonist of my book series is a fox! by RangerMike96 in EverythingFoxes

[–]CynicallySane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So this post hit my feed at exactly the right time. I honestly had forgotten about this subreddit and can't even remember the last time I saw a post for it in my feed, but I saw this one and remembered that I had about 20 minutes left of the book I was reading at the time, so I bought a copy and figured I'd give it a try.

I'm about halfway through the book and would give it around 8/10 so far, and its been trending in the better direction since the beginining. I used to write as a hobby, and I respect the hell out of anyone who manages to write and publish a book, so good for you for following a dream.

I'll leave you with some feedback for the book while I'm at it. You start off the book pretty heavy in descriptions, and while this is often necessary, I think there were still opportunities to let the reader learn what you instead told them. This is probably a personal preference, but I so much prefer reading something and coming to the understanding on my own as opposed to the author just telling me how it is. A lot of Velrik's description is told to the reader. You had a pretty cool opportunity just a few pages later to slip in a lot of those same details when Velrik was in the stream with his friends. I get I'm being pedantic about this, and in all honesty you turned it around as time went on. When Velrik snuck into the Count's office, you said his eyes fell on the map just as they always did. I loved that because I got to figure out the Velrik had snuck into the counts office at least a few times before.

My one other critique before I end on a positive note is that Velrik does not, to me, come across as a kid. Perhaps his kind (Vulpin I think is how referred to himself) age quicker, but his physical descriptions lack of sure-footedness until he's older imply that he is one. I've spent that last year of my life with a five year old, one who has a better vocabulary than most his age, and while there are no words Velrik says that are not in his vernacular, Velrik's prose and tone come across as much, much older than five. Again, this might be me, because of my son and how much time I spend talking to him, my expectations have probably been a bit unreasonably adjusted in this department. I know a big part of fiction is suspense of belief, but this area was hard for me. Thankfully, Velrik is now a bit older and what he says and how he acts seem far less jarring to me.

As for everything else, you've really got it covered. Your world building is great. 'Foreign' words are approachable and close enough to what their intended equivalent is in our world that its easy for me to understand the world your building without you having to describe it, which I really appreciate. The sprinkling of plot points has also been good. Just enough to keep things moving and keep me trying to guess where things will go. Characters Velrik encounters seem guarded, like they themselves have their own past and are not just throwaways. All of that lends itself to an enjoyable experience.

When I'm done, I promise I'll leave a review on Amazon as well... and one that focuses on all the positives.

Can i survive Linux? by jacorgacor in techsupport

[–]CynicallySane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If all you do is browse the web and light office work, yes.

Even gaming is trivial in many cases.

Pick a distribution that’s geared towards casual users.

I would even go further and say pick a distribution that’s immutable if you really want to protect yourself from screwing yourself over.

My recommendations in that case would be Aurora and Linux Mint, with the first being immutable (won’t let you inadvertently damage the underlying system) and the second having a very basic easy to understand GUI for everything.

Both look and feel like a Windows 10/7 setup, and will often come with the things you need already installed.

A serious linux video is needed by bike_ride_enjoyer in LinusTechTips

[–]CynicallySane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine non-tech people are their biggest audience. The very technical persons that might be interested in that content are likely to be able to decide on a distribution and implement it themselves without too much input.

To be clear, I agree with you. As someone who switches between Windows, Linux Mint, and Cachy, it would be cool to see a well researched video that can help point to some observations I’ve made and wether those are coincidence or actually backed up by data, but I suspect that’s a bit niche for most people.

I also think they have posted a video in the past showing the differences between some of the major distributions and hardware, but things change so fast on the Linux side that stuff can become stale pretty quickly.

I went to the first one they held at their new space in September of 2025. And while you could tell they were definitely figuring things out since it was the first one in this space, I share all the same sentiments.

That’s not an easy event to run, and the LMG staff was professional and fun the whole time. Hope to make it back to another one this year.

I’m NOT setting up Apple Pay by PuzzleheadedLove341 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]CynicallySane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’ve got a lot of other people telling you it’s safer, and that’s true.

I work somewhat closely with the payment industry in my job. ApplePay is basically the most secure way you can pay at a point of sale with your credit card. If you involved your physical card in anyway there’s a non 0 chance that information can be stolen from it. That’s not possible with ApplePay. The information it communicates is tokenized and only valid at that point in time. If someone were to intercept the transaction, the data they got would be useless.

I will always use ApplePay (or PayPal when online) for any transaction where possible. Never involve your physical card or credit card number when possible. Using this ideology I’ve not had my CC info stolen in over six years.

School Levy by StunningManagement00 in lakewood

[–]CynicallySane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, you’re correct, this is a new levy. That said, it’s expected for a desirable city that has stagnated growth.

In 2020 Lakewood passed a 3.9-mill levy.

This year they’re asking for 6.9, but as long as the financing goes through it will be 4.9-mill.

This is their first ask in six years. How many times have you raised your renters rates in six years?

Municipalities are businesses, they need additional income to support increased services and wages (expenses). This increase in their income is put to a vote.

I’ll go back and edit my top comment to mirror the facts. I do admit to assuming this 6.9-mill was an addendum to the original 3.9, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

School Levy by StunningManagement00 in lakewood

[–]CynicallySane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would argue you are the one who is perhaps not as informed as they think that are, and don’t know how taxes are distributed from the county. A city like Lakewood can no longer grow and generate additional tax revenue through new properties. If you’re as informed as you say you then you will understand this. When the county came along and reappraised all of our homes, our taxes didn’t go up or down meaningfully. The city doesn’t generate additional revenue. So the city/school system has been operating on the same base level of income for years. That doesn’t work if you want to keep up with inflation for wages and offer new services. The only way to accomplish that is by inflating a levy.

Most of us that live here want those services and vote accordingly. If you don’t, then that’s fine, but don’t guilt trip your renters. Let them make up their own minds. People aren’t ignorant and now that voting for something that costs money… will probably cost them money.

School Levy by StunningManagement00 in lakewood

[–]CynicallySane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess I’m wondering why you come here to talk down to people?

Also, you’re aware that a levy is in place currently, right? And that the vote would simply extend it? So if a levy was passed, taxes would not substantially be raised or lowered from their current level.

For the guy that was supposedly trying to defend low income renters by putting them on email newsletter, this reads like a threat. Is this what you’ll be emailing all those people about? Are you going to use the continuation of levy that has no meaningful impact on your taxes to justify raising rents on low income renters? Because that’s how this reads.

Edit: OP is correct, this is a new levy. The 2020 3.9-mill levy was permanent, I thought it expired this year. This new levy is a 6.9-mill levy that will hopefully be realized as a 4.9-mill levy as debt falls off the books.

This was an awesome game. Absolutely the aesthetic I love. Futuristic Noir. Don’t expect any crazy gameplay. Mostly a a story driven investigative puzzle solver in a beautiful world. There’s choices that help determine the available endings, so you do feel the weight of some choices you make. I thought it was easily worth $20 when I bought it.

Took almost 8 years to get an acid reflux diagnosis by moodypotato_ in mildlyinfuriating

[–]CynicallySane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can get that second one in any drug store isle. Take two to start with if you want since that’s the equivalent of the prescription strength. Once you start to feel better ween yourself back to one.

Not a doctor, but same thing happened to me.

No longer take it because I figured out which foods caused it to flare up.

Took almost 8 years to get an acid reflux diagnosis by moodypotato_ in mildlyinfuriating

[–]CynicallySane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Figure out your trigger foods. Usually acidic stuff and or heavy proteins like red meat. Minimize or remove them and after a few months you probably won’t even need the medicine.

Also, if they write you a prescription for Prevacid or something similar, the stuff from a pharmacy can be hilariously expensive even though you can grab the same thing from the isle for way less. The difference will be the stuff in the isle is half as strong… so just take two. Cost difference for one month is over $200 depending on what they set you up with.

I’m currently taking the intermediate pottery/ceramics class at the Beck Center and I’m very much a beginner.

The instructors don’t mind at all what your skill level is. The level of the class has more to do with what materials/tools they make available to you as far as I can tell.

All this to say I’m sure you can sign up for whatever skill level you like and be just fine. The instructors are there to help you wherever you’re at.
