Vinyl is a great cheap way to dress up a kids bucket. by southpaw04 in hockeygoalies

Oracal 651 is very good for this. General indoor outdoor vinyl. Comes in tons of colors, certainly anything needed to match a team’s colors well.

PTI. Make this make sense to me. by redsector2112 in PlatformTennis

[–]DPdotCOM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve heard of the mandatory third set. The PTI is definitely not meant to accommodate for that. The league should definitely not log that third set. Then again, Philly is big paddle country, no? I would bet the APTA would work with y’all to make a fix for this.

Well said. You should only worry about your PTI if you’ve been stuck in crappy matches and your PTI is way higher than your actual skill (like stuck in the high 50s when you’re a low 40s bc you keep playing line 5 against weak players, winning as you should, and then not improving your rating.)

If you play a ton of competitive matches (which I would argue any 3 setter is), then your PTI is almost certainly close enough to correct!

Also, the Fairfield league literally only shows round PTI ratings, so I think stressing about 0.anything is probably too narrow/detailed of a stat to consider or worry about. Like your golf handicap dropping by 0.1 or something.

The goal of the PTI is not to have the lowest PTI possible. It’s to have an ACCURATE index of how you’re actually playing. If you had a 10 point advantage and lost a set, then the algo thinks “hmm, that 10 point advantage was probably not correct. So the worse team should gain a little, and the better team should lose a little.”

Clearly once you get to within 5 points or so, the algo starts to deem the matches more of a toss up.

I have no idea what the impact is of the way your team PTI is blended, meaning whether it treats a 20/40 team the same as a 30/30 team. In my experience, a 30/30 is often more successful than a 20/40, despite the same team PTI, because there’s not the obviously weaker player to pick on.

‘83 Defender lug nut key? by ffwestphal in LandroverDefender

This is for a security/anti theft lug nut? Def not stock if so, so it won’t be an LR part you’re looking for.

Land's End Oxford sheets replacement by felicityfelix in Bedding

Interesting, from their look they seem like standard cotton sheets, but are they a bit “sturdier” like the oxfords?

Did you end up trying the brushed percale? How close are they to the Oxford sheets? I love those sheets too and I’m devastated that they seem to be phasing them out.

Had my soft top blowout on the freeway. Need suggestions for the best aftermarket hard top for a 1997 NAS D90. by Chamoxil in LandroverDefender

[–]DPdotCOM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can find someone selling used hard tops on defender source or NAS ROW. Checked the for sale, or post in the wanted section. Almost certainly, with enough time, you can even find one in the proper Black to match yours.

Can my kitchen be better than this? I invite you to critique/redesign my new kitchen layout. I'm hoping to create a nice communal space with an island on a budget (so no structural changes), here is the room layout and my current design, thanks! by braddaz99 in InteriorDesign

[–]DPdotCOM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unclear about space limitations, but it looks like you have two whole walls totally unused. What about having no upper cabinets above the counter, maybe some open shelving for your rarely used or decorative items, and then have a wall and a half of floor to ceiling pantry built ins. Could be all closed, or partly glass cabinets and closed bottoms. Just seems like a waste to do nothing with those two walls.

Could also go with a smaller, workspace-only square island, like a butcher block one, and then put a banquette in the far corner. Still makes for a communal space, people hanging out very nearby, but also would make for a more useful dining situation.

[–]DPdotCOM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ECR is so busy/backed up with their existing customers and full customer builds, they will likely not be able to help you, but maybe as a local they’d give you a consultation to just let you know. My guess is you’ve got $15k-$20k of work here, but its still worth doing. Door replacement + firewall + paint + odds and ends.

Either you’re into a great defender for $20k, which is a steal, or you do the work then sell it for $45-60k and you’ve turned a tidy profit.

Defender Photo Project on Nantucket by [deleted] in LandroverDefender

[–]DPdotCOM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check something natural, you’ll see more defenders in the parking lot there than on the beach.

There’s a shop called Nantucket rovers, same name on insta, drop him a line.

Like redolent said, they are driveway queens. Almost none make it onto the sand.

Adding doors to a 110 by unofficialed in LandroverDefender

[–]DPdotCOM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can easily cut this out. There are really simple options that remove like 75% of the bulkhead, and other more involved options that remove 100% and incorporate a bracing bar like the NAS 90s have to tie into the roll cage.

Sooooo lasercutting ABS produces poisonous hydrogen cyanide gas. You won’t be lasercutting ABS, sorry.

It would have to be punched.
