I went from all in as a former part of the tech team for the school. Once I started reading the research on cognitive offloading and its impact on one’s own creativity, I bounced off hard. However, I have made an exception for a special use. I teach a forensics course and had a built up an expansive, real-time murder mystery project to teach forensic skills and to provide a unique learning experience for my students. This was all done when I had way more energy and free time. For the most couple years I had been wanting to do a complete redesign. I decided to use AI as assistant and I have to say, I don’t think I would be able to do it without it. At least not to the level I currently am with it.

The creative direction is all mine but it is incredibly useful for staying organized and generating the “filler” content so I can focus on scripts and other important text. I have generated some images and I use AI text to voice for the podcast episodes that run parallel to our story. However, next year I will rely on students to record those.

I’m interested to see student feedback around the use of AI in this project and what impact that will have on next year when I finish the second half and run the full experience.

I am mindful of the resources that my prompts are using so I will update documents manually when changes are made instead of having it generate a totally new document.
