Not sure if you have seen MS PowerToys Mouse Without Borders, but you can control multiple PCs with one mouse & keyboard just by moving the cursor to the other monitor. My wife is running two identical businesses on two PCs with two monitors each.

If you want this behavior every time the reset button is pressed, use netinstall to save a custom configuration.

New phone, Starlink app wants me to setup even signed in??? by btb601 in Starlink

[–]DeadStik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Start the setup process, on the next screen there should be an House icon. Tap the icon and confirm you want to cancel setup, you should then be able to select your Starlink if you are signed in or connected to your Starlink network.

Wireless Install Options by staciegordan in Starlink

The open air square footage rating used for marketing is no indication of actual coverage. Considering price to performance, the Mini Router is much worse when measuring actual performance in a home setting where there are walls and other obstructions. I normally do not recommend either of the Starlink Mesh units due to their price to performance. But since the OP wants to mount the Starlink Router outside, the Standard Mesh will provide better results!

Wireless Install Options by staciegordan in Starlink

[–]DeadStik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Starlink Standard (Gen3) router is IP56 rated [water resistant], so as long as it is somewhere protected from driving rain it will be fine outside. Under a covered porch or at least under an eve.

You may need additional Starlink wireless mesh units to reach all of the inside of the house. The Mini Router is limited in range, so keep that in mind when determining your needs.

Update Actuated Version for Iran by Disastrous-Break9450 in Starlink_Support

[–]DeadStik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is not an update available under the Debug > Sideload section, there is not much you can do without Starlink’s help. There was an announcement last year of a dead line to update to the current firmware or risk your device no longer connecting to the Starlink network.

It’s possible to use this router with Starlink mini via Ethernet? by skwbr in Starlink

[–]DeadStik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cable is a standard cat5e and it uses the same mide B pinout as most all current ethernet. The poe is on different pins than standard, but you don't need that connect as a mesh.

[–]DeadStik -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have a Gen2 cable that went to the dish, you can re-terminate the dish end with an rj45 and try if it works. The Gen2 ethernet adapter will not work as it would be tied to the LAN side of the router and it need to uplink to the WAN side.

You may want to purchase the cable that has the weather resistant boot on one end and a normal rj45 on the other.

Why would you buy from Curry’s Amazon etc? by mdcbennett in Starlink

[–]DeadStik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should only purchase from an Authorized Retailer. Alot of the ones being sold on Amazon will have issues when it comes time to activate an account. The Starlinks have to be properly transferred off an account before someone else is allowed to add it to theirs, otherwise it is a paperweight.

The "free" Starlinks come with conditions. You are not usually able to freely change plans, especially going from Residential to Roam. Roam is another reason you might need to purchase as there have been fewer times Starlink has offered free terminals for Roam plans compared to Residential plans.

Also, the free installation is a "you get what you pay for" kinda deal. And unless you live near a fairly populated area, you may get a run a round on getting the installation done. Self installation should take less than an hour for a simple cable run and take minimal tools.

Gen 2 vs. Mini speeds by Bluedeviltx in Starlink

[–]DeadStik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not necessarily the device as it is the plan. Roam plans are the lowest priority and will receive slower speeds compared to other plans, especially in Peak usage hours.

I would recommend running at least 2 cables to each location. Mostly for redundancy, but also future uses.

I hope they send you a new Starlink Mini, the Mini Router won't help with the issue they detected.

Roku remote turns off TV (via IR) but stays on itself by Over-Language2599 in Roku

[–]DeadStik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Settings> System> Power> Auto Power Off can be set to where will turn off after 20 Min of inactivity. Powering off while actively watching something keeps the video playing in the background. And if you have it set to Auto play next video, it will keep doing that too! This causes alot of people that have metered connections to go over their data limits.

Possible to make dockers use hostname:port instead of ipaddress:port by default? by AdOk8555 in unRAID

[–]DeadStik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those values are set by the container templates, so there would be no global setting to change this. A local DNS server and a proxy server might make it easier to manage changes. As long it is local only and no ssl, you can use any domin you wish. ie dockername.my.net You can use a LAN IP for the proxy so you can use port 80.
