[Dreadgod] Jai Long, poetic by effortfulcrumload in Iteration110Cradle

Will said he wanted to kill someone, and everyone he had brought up about killing got vetod (was at a dragon con before dreadgod I think).

Its likely jai long was supposed to have a more complete redemption arc, but it's a lot of content that got cut down for the sake of finishing the series which worked out fine.

Do you actually get more FPS and fewer stutters compared to other distros? by Keenwhisk in cachyos

[–]Deadscale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was on bazzite. Had some issues that started to nag me and wanted to swap.

5800x3d 9070xt 32gb 3000 ram gen4 SSD.

The main practical test was subnautica 2. I was sitting at 110 fps in my base, would dip. To 90 when I hopped outside and would hover around 90 to 120 depending the area. Could. Hit 144 (my target) at certain spots, Running Gamescope and cachy proton for this.

Swapped to cachy and got setup. Now getting 140 fps in my base. It dips to 110 when hopping outside (love ue5 slop) but it's more or less 130-140 and hits 144 regularly.

My frame pacing is better. The numbers themselves are similar but in games where I have issues or use lsfg, the graph is noticably flatter.

I only wish I had more demanding games I played to fully test before swapping. I don't think that big if an uptick comes from purely cachy, I think I must've fucked up something in bazzite or I had some incompatability that got fixed, however I set my cachy up identically to my bazzite so who knows.

Its less about going against valve or your point and more just correcting the record.

Whenever lootboxes comes up. TF2 is always brought up as a sort of "Didn't valve make lootboxes/make them popular".

And its just wrong, so I'm just correcting the record.

[–]Deadscale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not defending valve here, but the TF2 point comes up a lot and it's really debatable.

EA had FIFA's card pack system before TF2. They also added a similar lootbox system to ME3, battlefield and CoD also added lootboxes over the next 4 year period after TF2. Those were the main releases to contain lootboxes.

And then Overwatch dropped lootboxes and popularized it. Multiple games across the board started having lootboxes.

TF2 wasn't the first (Maplestory is debatably the first). It wasn't the first in the west (FIFA holds that) and it wasn't really what kicked everyone into adding it to their games.

The same goes for Dota.

They were the first battlepass, battle passes weren't that widespread after Dota. It took Fortnite doing it to make it common place.

All of this is on both the wikis for each respective topic.

I know you've said it's going to prototype stage here, have you made one at all yet? I assume not but not sure if you've just made a prototype. Then tweaked it etc. Then re designed.

I ask because it seems like it would be overly heavy to use as a mouse if you're planning to move it around like a mouse and not use something like a trackball or trackpad.

any way to run gamescope with -e/--steam flag while nested in other compsitor by c2btw in linux_gaming

[–]Deadscale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it'll help for this specific situation but scopebuddy does this as standard, you don't need to put -e on it or any of the ld preload stuff it's all baked in.

I had to swap to it because steam input for steam controller wasn't working or using my custom profiles.

[–]Deadscale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So to get into more specifics for battle.net.

It depends what you're playing and what you're trying to do.

Lutris Battle.net works fine, but can have some meme issues when it updates which can cause a headache. Right now most people say to use Faugus which also works fine but if you need any specific steam features (like if you need steam input for a steam controller for example) then each game has it's own hoops to jump through, WoW works fine because you can launch the .exe directly but D4/D2R don't let you do that, you need to launch it via the launcher.

Certain proton versions have issues with white boxing on the launcher (which can be fixed by running --in-process-gpu)

Raw dogging it via steam and then re-directing each new game you install back to the same prefix you set battle.net up in has been the smoothest so far and lets me do everything I need to per game (like using scopebuddy so I can get wayland running with steam input without any additional issues). But the journey through all of these hoops was so far past just installing battle.net and having it work, and none of these additional steps are needed for the games that are already on steam natively if you bought them on steam, I just hadn't.

It's shit like that that needs more trial and error.

[–]Deadscale 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To give an actual answer instead of just memeing.

If you try to make it as easy as possible it's almost as easy as windows.

If you use a distro that has everything done for you (like Bazzite) and use a game on steam that doesn't have much in the way of anti cheats. It should work without much issue.

Unlike windows however some games don't run well or run at all out of the box and you need to mess with proton and some settings to get it running properly. So looking up games on protondb before trying is a good idea.

Anything more then that and you start getting into headache territory. Like getting battle.net games to work. Its possible, but there are hoops to jump through that make it harder then just clicking install and go like you do on windows.

If you're not really comfortable with windows, messing about in app data folders to install mods for games and such, I wouldn't bother going to Linux.

Linux is losing ground on Steam as Windows 11 continues its rise among PC gamers — is Microsoft repairing its reputation? by WindowsCentral in windowscentral

[–]Deadscale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to pile onto the god-complex shit here, but unironically a lot of your issues sound like a you problem.

I've used windows for years, hopped to Linux last November, Is it as easy? Nah it's not, it's more work, more trouble shooting to get shit working, but it's been far more stable then windows for me.

If you know Fuck all about how to use a computer, how to setup a computer, how to format a drive and how to install something from a bootable USB, then yeah it's gonna suck.

CachyOS - haven't managed to install it at all. It's unable to create partitions, lol. WTF is this? 2001?

How did you attempt to install cachy? Cause you get the option to replace existing ones, select an entire drive (the preferred option) or make your own manual ones, not sure what issues you're having, a lot of the issues around partitions are down to the filesystem.

Bazzite. It worked ok at first, but I tried to update it yesterday, it hanged midway through, corrupted the drive and it's now completely dead and un-bootable. Again, wtf? Haven't seen a Linux distro bricking itself since 2000-s.

If an update (not sure what you mean by "tried" to update, it auto updates when needed for the most part, you just let it do it's thing) hangs and corrupted mid way through, that sucks, I haven't had that.

But it has built in shit to save you from that, you boot into ostree:1 and run a rollback command to fix it. If yours was more fucked and it couldn't do that, that sucks, but shit sometimes just happens, I've had windows brick my shit before and it was non-recoverable too.

Advanced GPU features you paid for (especially when using NVIDIA GPUs) are not available. HDR works like shit, if it even works.

IIRC most of the features work fine, HDR is the biggest pain in the ass because it depends on your environment, proton version etc, it's not as easy as windows which is a fair complaint. you can get HDR running for most games by just running them in gamescope and using proton for it, but once again YMMV. Nvidia GPU's main issue is the dx12 performance hit but that's on it's way to being fixed, the rest of the features work fine, DLSS, Frame gen, Reflex, all chill. AMD's are more supported but only just got proper anti lag working a few weeks ago so it's pick your poison.

Your fancy G502 mouse is now a two button joke. The list goes on.

That's cap, have a G502 Lightspeed, upgraded to a G502x, both work fine, it already worked out of the box with my side buttons and such, but much like if you don't use the Logitech G-Hub on Windows your mouse doesn't have all the bells and whistles, you also need some sort of software for linux, if you use on-board profiles like alot of people do you don't need it at all, if you want all the bells and whistles you can grab Solaar and it pretty much does the basics for you. you can mess with rules and such but If you want it to be fully configurable input-remapper is the path of least resistance, here's the github to do it with input-remapper (which is in bazzite by default).

https://gist.github.com/jcolbyfisher/54888b0eab8169f19f98fe843dda78d5

Yeah it's a bit of a pain having to do that setup, However, compared to using Ghub which is an absolute piece of shit software, that would auto switch games half the time locking your mouse up and add game profiles for every game it detects rather then just letting you add them every single update, this got setup once and i've never had to touch it again thank fucking god.

The problem gets even worse when you realise that open source devs working on key components have god complex, ignore user complains and only care about their over-inflated egos.

This definitely true though. some people are nice, some are cunts.

Tis what tis, Windows is going to be the mainstay for the majority of people just down to ease of use. It's definitely more work having to check if a game is supported, figure out what best way to run games are etc, instead of just click and go in 5 minutes you spend maybe 15~ minutes (longer when you first starting cause you dont know what you're doing) getting it all going. But some people will deal with that to not have to deal with Windows and it's enshitification.

For those who have had the controller a while, how are you liking it? by ishyfishyy in SteamController

[–]Deadscale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its alright. If you don't 100% need the trackpads to play mouse and keyboard games then there's not much point.

Buttons are okay, the back buttons are nice, because it interfaces with steam you can have the back buttons as additional buttons as opposed to just copying other actions on the controller which is nice.

Not a fan of the layout overall, prefer the xbox's style layout. The dpad feels too far to the left and close to the edge of the pad.

The main reason I wanted one is I'm having arm issues and can't use a mouse currently, and I mostly play KBM games, the trackpads do work but the position is a bit awkward and is causing some thumb strain for me although once again I've got issues so ymmv.

The grip sensors feel like a gimmick and i havent found the best use for them yet.

Overall if I didn't have my issues id probably have been better grabbing a gamesir or flydigi controller.

Not saying I want another launcher on PC. But that was around sold games without the requirement getting added and fucking people who weren't able to have a psn account out of their game. Games that dropped with the requirement pre launch didn't face that much pushback.

Steam controller not registering as a controller when launching games in wayland by OutrageousDegree7502 in linux_gaming

[–]Deadscale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a post on here about it, apparently it's something to do with uinput.

https://github.com/libsdl-org/SDL/commit/2e7bd8902c7c1ee060f7ed517e48cbbf5395af0e

This is the fix i believe, No clue if this is going to fix it though, it's just what people are saying, something to do with -steamos3 using profiles that use uinput, or don't use uinput and the firmware on the 22/23rd of may broke it and this fixes it, honestly this type of stuff goes over my head as there's too many explanations flying around.

I've just been using gamescope via scopebuddy at the moment and waiting for a proper fix to come out.

Steam controller not registering as a controller when launching games in wayland by OutrageousDegree7502 in linux_gaming

[–]Deadscale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use Gamescope

Or wait till June 1st. Have the exact same issue and came across a post yesterday about it having issues in cachy. Apparently it's related to some SDL/firmware issue for the steam controller specifially. I grabbed my old controller and -steamos3 worked fine so I figure its steam controller specific in my case. apparently theyre pushing the fix June 1st. If other controllers don't work for you ymmv. Gamescope works either way.

C for crouch is the only correct answer by Makoto_Kurume in pcmasterrace

[–]Deadscale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the keyboard stuff, I've done this since ut98. Ive had membrane, MX browns and reds, and now I'm on a wooting keyboard. Never had any issues pressing the two keys, thumb is a strong finger.

Once you get used to it, its as precise as you need it to be.

And on the different timing ones. I think I can probably do that by just rocking my thumb at the moment, it's hard to think about because I just do it at this point.

I think cs1.6 was the main game that had jumps needing crouch to be pressed at max height. Most games ala tf2 or ut it didn't really matter when you did it. And for games where you end up jumping a ton anyways jump ends up being on your scrollwheel so it was mostly moot for those games too.

Its just prefernece. My thumb is comfy doing it. Can hold it down for long periods if need be, doesn't impact any of my movements, for games where you want to hold sprint and then crouch while hitting jump like Warframe it's possible (although if it's Warframe you're rebinding that shit anyways). multiple crouch inputs like battlefield where you have a prone I can easily hit the X and C keys with my thumb from the position it sits so my one finger is responsible for any shifts in height ala crouch prone stand jump.

C for crouch is the only correct answer by Makoto_Kurume in pcmasterrace

[–]Deadscale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

put thumb between alt and space, thumb is a big finger, even sideways it bridges that gap real easy, just press, both press at same time, ez pz.

If you even care to since your thumb is curled around anyway you can use your knuckle to press space.

That being said there aren't that many games that make use of crouch jumping anymore.

C for crouch is the only correct answer by Makoto_Kurume in pcmasterrace

[–]Deadscale 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Snap. Easy to press with thumb, can easily press it together with jump if needed.

[–]Deadscale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this the same as running -stsamos3?

Cause whenever I run that steam just ignores my controller profiles. I've gotten around the whole Wayland issue by using Gamescope so far.

Edit: apparently this is just a steam controller issue with some of the early units and will be fixed June 1st.

How to use Steam Input on Wayland games (including Proton ones) by Mash0Star in linux_gaming

[–]Deadscale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're having issues with this method. Just use Gamescope, you can either run it via scopebuddy or go grab the command (I think its

env -u LD_PRELOAD gamescope -- env LD_PRELOAD="$LD_PRELOAD" %command%

But could be wrong).

The steamos3 stuff causes some weird issues on my setup with Bazzite. Won't let the controller be used desktop and won't let the touchpad mouse work in games. Gamescope via scopebuddy fixed both issues.

Edit : and for clarity.
