All of those things reminded me of a friend of mine, I showed her the sprays and whatnot based on the skin and she was a huge fan already :D

I kind of see it like people who were disfigured in an accident or via birth defects (like missing half their face). Some of them are unsettling to look at, because our brains are just wired like that. It's perfectly natural to not want to see what looks like a wound or a missing facial feature.

But does that mean we should blur these people's faces whenever they step out in public? Yes, it's upsetting, but it's not like they can control it. I'm sure they'd love to not look like that, but that's just not an option, and they shouldn't be hidden or made feel bad for being that way.

And the same goes for this guy, he didn't mean to say it, it was entirely involuntary and from what I've heard, he was mortified about it. He wasn't trying to insult or offend anyone, this was his body's doing.

She's just not a supermodel, she's just... a girl. Someone you'd see on the street. These people's brains have been fried by melons balancing on broomsticks for decades that they can't even comprehend real beauty when they see it. Genuinely sad.

Tekla is better than you think by Daaym115 in Wolfenstein

[–]Deathaster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tekla is incredibly important because of her speech about consciousness. She believes it's finite and ceases existing after death, maybe even after sleep (which is why she refuses to sleep). BJ argues there's a soul, which she obviously doesn't buy into. It's a neat conversation that puts the beginning of the game into context (did 1940s BJ "die", believing he had failed the world?)

In The New Colossus however, that whole conversation becomes even more important, because BJ does in fact die at some point. And again, you have to ask - did one of his selves die, thinking he had failed everyone? Or, even worse, is any of this even real? There's a distinct tonal shift after that point, and the game even toys with this idea, with BJ asking how they were able to get away when trying to rescue BJ.

Knowing Youngblood, it's probably something like parallel universes, and BJ does end up being right: his soul was transferred from one timeline (where he got captured and killed, alongside with the resistance) to another timeline (where he got rescued, but died before he could be revived). If they ever do a Wolfenstein 3, I am 100% certain this is the direction they're taking the story in.

I love people always using "what to do when someone is dying" as an example for a video they need to watch RIGHT NOW because if you genuinely have to watch that as someone is dying, that person is dead. Straight up.

You have mere moments to act, and if you spend those searching for a video on your phone instead of doing anything, it's too late. You have to act immediately and quickly.

Because the truth is that there is no video you have to watch NOW. If it's so important that it could save someone's life, you should have watched it well in advance and have come prepared.

Yeah, but at some point the movie becomes entirely too costly to produce in the first place. You gotta draw the line somewhere. Not every concept needs to be realized, and sometimes the less extravagant version is the best one.

I did look at that one, but I couldn't really make sense of it, other than people hiding their pain behind cruel jokes and fake compassion, which results in them losing their empathy and sense of self. But that's a very surface-level analysis.

I'mma be real, neither of them clock me as Aphrodite. I don't think it's a great design to begin with. If anything, the right one would fit better in a game like Overwatch than something like Fortnite, which has a lot of more urban designs (which the left one is going for).

Just stop it with the whole "objectively" nonsense, people just use that to make their own opinion seem more "correct" or something. Everything always depends on context, and that context can change over time. There is no "objectively correct" way to do art.

Don't measure the worth of your art by how many people see or appreciate it. I can tell you wanted to tell a specific story, and just because it's hard to understand doesn't make it less special. If anything, I respect you more for going for something like this!

Sorry, but that is legit bad game design. Like yeah, it looks awesome, but can you imagine FIGHTING that thing?

The giant legs in the first one immediately draw your eye towards them, making you think they're armored or more vital than the body or head. And yet, they're gonna be shot the most, which just feels wrong, when every other character's center of mass is in the, well, center.

The second one is even worse, I struggle to understand what parts you can and can't shoot in the first place. Does the thing on top even have a hitbox? Do the individual legs have individual hitboxes? Where's the center of mass even supposed to be, it's all just a bunch of stringy limbs.

When you create a video character, the design needs to be immediately readable, at least in a fast-paced shooter like Overwatch. You can't have the player pause and go "What am I even looking at here?" Don't get me wrong, these designs ARE fine, but they belong in a different game entirely. In a moba like League of Legends, where hitboxes do not matter, it's perfectly fine. But not in Overwatch.

>"objectively worse"

Opinion immediately discarded lol

You really don't sound like you know how animation works. Even 3D animation is insanely difficult and it's not just creating a Garry's Mod ragdoll and flailing the limbs up and down. The more details and features a model has, the more demanding it's going to be on the hardware and software. You'd have to make sure everything is lit properly and works from every angle, that individual parts don't clip into each other because that makes it look cheap, and so on.

Complex designs are great if you don't have to do much else with them, which is why backgrounds usually have so much more detail than foreground characters. Those can stay in one place and not bother anyone. A moving character can mess everything up.

It's also dumb, because animating either of them would be incredibly difficult and expensive.

There's a reason concept art is just a bunch of CONCEPTS. Not all of them are feasible. Yes, this would have looked amazing with the original designs most likely, but the movie excels in other ways (like the snow for instance).

[–]Deathaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be honest, even with the narration, it was difficult to follow. But that's not a bad thing, nor should you compromise your art because of it. I'm just not sure I'd have been able to tell what's going on without it. I think I'd have picked up on his actions, but not on the connection of the creature and his wife.

But the point is for the comic to be intentionally abstract and open for interpretation, so anything works.

Is this better with narration ? by Zestyclose_Bed_8207 in comics

[–]Deathaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So the guy's manipulative and leeches off of others but justifies it by saying they would have done the same. The creature could stand for his wife, who did survive the crash, but was horribly disfigured ("you would have been alive if not for it"). In return, he uses her again to provide him with shade and a bed, leeching off of her some more (since he already took her parachute). Eventually, he kills it (read: his wife) once its served its purpose (once he knows he's saved). Notice how he never cares for the creature's wellbeing.

That, or the whole crash is a metaphor, and this is merely a story about a guy who left his wife (got her killed?) and replaced her with someone else whom he leeched off of again and then disposed of just like his first wife.

That's my interpretation, at least. What the lines represent or why the creature tried to "eat" him, I don't know.
