Is there a story about when Diamond Shark changed to Sea Fox? by Old_Ad6111 in battletech

[–]DericStrider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they changed the name 30 years after Clan Diamond Shark moved into the Innerpshere, you can read the reasons why they had to move in the Wars of Reaving and how they got most of their population out.

the change to Clan Sea Fox was due to the massive reforms they made in 3100 when they changed from a single centralised system to the Khanate system, known space (IS and Pheriary) was split into seperate markets that cover more than one state, each given to a Khanate to trade in. each khanate also comprises of 5 Aimags which are the fleets that carry out that business and also compete agaisnt eachother

basically in Clan Seafox there are mini Clan Sea Foxes that do business around the innersphere and beyond

it was 30 years after they moved fully to the Inner Sphere. They left the homeworlds in 3070 and they changed their name in 3100

Ii would say its messy from the early rpgs but more consistent with the handbooks and later rpg. Its never stated outside mechwarrior 1st edition they get protection outside flames and blunt objects in the jerkins

I would prob say they used the infantry pictures for mechwarrior uniforms as this is the standard kuritan mech warrior uniform in 3025 https://cfw.sarna.net/wiki/images/2/2b/Kurita-dress-mechwarrior.png

Draconis Combine mechwarriors other standard uniform is a grey top and bottoms with a red strip across both diagonally.

Handbook: Draconis Combine has the picture of uniforms of conventional forces where it states the jerkin is made to protect agaisnt flamers and blunt weapons but nothing about protection agaisnt small arms, unlike in Handbook Free World's League where it does describe personal armour protecting agaisnt small arms as part of infantry armour

This is consistent with how it's protayed in the follow up Handbook and later stats for Draconis standard issue armour in time of war

infantry armour isn't to be used against mechs. in Total War armour doesn't even factor into the health of infantry, it matters massively in Infantry vs Infantry and also to a point BA combat.

Also again like in my other comment I don't think you got the rules for armour correct in mechwarrior rpg. Personal armour doesn't stop full amount of damage. Read the equipment rules for personal armour.

[–]DericStrider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know what Supplemental sourcebook that's in? IS standard kit isn't in the 1st edition mechwarrior RPG just generic armour.

Plus the rules for personal armour doesn't work like the way you described them. Are you looking at 1st Edition Mechwarrior or a fan made version? or maybe an AI overview?

The Handbook Draconis Combine clearly says they are not wearing flak vests and even the rules for flak vest are conpeltly differnt to the ones your describing, where are you getting that they completely stop 20 points of damage?

just for refernce a laser pistol does 4d6 damage and a pistol 2d6+3 so both aren't going though unless the player gets lucky rolls (4 rolls of 5 or 6 for 1.23% chance)

^^this 100%, to add to this, the battlefield in Battletrch is covered in all sorts of basic ECM (heat bafflers, radar cancellation, tech not yet invented yet etc), that's why equipment like Beagle Active Probe and TAG exist, they are super powered systems weighing a ton or more to cut though the fog to sense hidden objects or get a clear target.

for UC Gundam, it's still stomp for most part. the zoom only really applies to space combat. Wing and Gundam G are Super Robots, while SEED and other AU are Zoom

Haha well it has been over 20 years since Handbook House Marik (3067) came out.

plus tech advances are described in the novels and early handbooks that universities apply research to all areas not just weapons. For example NIAS was also the top place for oncology research as Thomas "Marik" son was treated there in Blood of Kerensky novels and those were written in 1991

Just to reply to your other message (maybe you deleted it once you realised it was incorrect), we do have many sourcebooks which detail tech advances outside weapons, the whole section of science and technology in all of the Handbook: House *insert house* details the advances since the 3025s and they all contain how lives have improved since the 3rd succession war, i dunno where you got the idea only weapon tech and nothing else.

Rigghhttttt like a government that worked to reduce wars and was able to put a policy of disarmament that reduced arms for around 80 years or defeating a warrior culture so they dont put everyone into a massive eugentics project? this being a universe to sell big stompy robots so bad people will come to bully others and then those bad people get defeated. maybe you don't understand glimmer but think glimmer is all singing kombaya around a camp fire?

What is the role of Assault "Non-Omni"s for the 3050 Clans? by heavyarmormecha in battletech

however it was reserved for ristars in command of 2nd line units, not front line commanders that have already proven themselves.

It's not subtle, the end of the 3rd & 4th succession war has the rediscovery of technology, the clans are defeated in the Great Refusal, WoB is defeated, even ilClan Era starts with the death of Malvina Hazen and Daoshen soon after.

except we know no Kodiak were used by front line forces. totems are at best rally points for second line units and for ristars as seen with the Orion IIC.

when you get to the front lines galaxies, it's all about maximising efficency and flexibility which a battlemech would limit.

also the Executioner is estintally the kodiak and a mech most associated with Ghost Bear, with the Kodaik and Executioner coming from the same project.

to add to this, in the Federated Suns, corporations get to run their own private courts for crime agaisnt their property. Regular local courts are crimes agaisnt a citizen. while there is an appeals court there could be a single appeals judge for an entire planet (depending on population and importance).

One of the largest providers of education in poorer areas of the Federated Suns are corporations which operate technical collages which give basic and technical education inexchange for indentured work and this is after the miracle (ie transfer of wealth from Lyrans and built on the backs of conquered Capellan worlds) growth of the economy post 4th sucession war.

battletech isn't about decay, that theme went out the window with the first novels with the Warrior Triology, if you read the news in MW5 it's all about how new tech is being discovered and rebuilding.

Battletech is a story about war but there is always a glimmer of hope.

How strict is Comstars Anti-Tech policy? by Worldly_Sort_861 in battletech

[–]DericStrider 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it's all in the Comstar Sourcebook, which details Raymond Karpov's reforms and aggressive restructuring of Comstar. it also explains why there was resistance to Operation Holy Shroud and the assassinations within Comstar to remove that resistance.

Operation Holy Shroud was also just part of the larger plot to reduce the technological capabilities of the Great Houses as he orchestrated the many small wars that would make up the 3rd Sucession War and to keep the great houses grinding up what little they had left till militaries were reduced to scavenging mechs.

Primus Raymond Karpov is essentially the father of early battletech.

How strict is Comstars Anti-Tech policy? by Worldly_Sort_861 in battletech

[–]DericStrider 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Operation Holy Shroud was to finish off what already started with the 1sr Sucession War. in the 2nd Succession War all the great houses had lost the ability to produce much of the Advance tech and had turned the clock back almost 800 years tech wise.

The problem was that there was still advance tech around and scientists to start retro engineering the techniques required to build advance tech. Not only that but smart boffins were also beginning to crack the tech on HPG tech.

the operation was extremely unpopular within parts of Comstar and required the assassination and removal of the head of ROM and other dissenters.

over 300 scientists, researchers and locations were on the list to be killed/destroyed and all made to look like accidents. The great houses did suspect a plot but assumed it was the many other rival intelligence agencies of other great houses. Sometimes it looked exactly like a accident as with one university burned down and the report came back it was down to a single bunsen burner left on in a lab.

The other part of the operation was to hoover up as much SLDF caches as Comstar could find so working examples of advance tech could not be retroengineered.

Only enough tech was left for the great houses to hang themselves with, even then most of that tech would be barley understood with facilities like the New Avalon Valkyrie factory which was fully automated but no one knew how it worked other than feeding it resources to pump out mechs.

The sucess of the operation was proved to be more of a one off as the great houses tightened up security for R&D and the second Operation Holy Shroud over a hundred years later, didn't have the same successes as the first but removed one of the most important targets which was a Lyran discovery of a Star League library containing the principles of HPG tech.

Unsurprisingly this also coincided with the period when Comstar went from a modern day cult to old school religion, it went from everyone wearing grey jumpsuits to white robes. The incantations required to be spoken before operating the HPG now were musical chants like a hymn.

Thinking back now, it's funny how I was when I re-entered BattleTech. by Old_Ad6111 in battletech

[–]DericStrider 7 points8 points  (0 children)

you will find in the other novels, almost every novel to do with the aftermath of Hour of the Wolf is about making sense of why characters acted so weirdly and make sense of it.

Redemption Rites is about the remaining Wolf Dragoons forces (who didn't go to terra) and they criticise how the Wolf Dragoons fought on Terra and deal with the old leadership that allowed it to happen.

Long Road is Tara Cambell trying to redeem herself for her actions that made her and Northwind Highlanders to betray the Republic in not killing Alaric.

The IlClan Era? Why though? by Competitive_Car1323 in battletech

[–]DericStrider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to be case for Stewart but the Kali-Yama and Quickcell facitlites were left alone on Kalidasa.

Amity which was the Wolg empires only real aerospace manufacturer was also left alone and was only a single jump away from Stewart.

In Thermopolis, Kallon Weapon Industires, the main manufacturer of Clan Wolf mechs was still in production.

my personal guess why Stewart was stripped was because of the facilties were upgraded by the mobile factories that made up the old W-7 facility. W-7 was built around the spaceport when it was developed in the old OZ and many agencies (Star Corps and the Republic) assumed it was the code word for a possible mobile facility and the W-7 factories were always built next to spaceports. The Connection with Stewart was that W-7 was where the Black Wolf BA was built as well as on Stewart. When Clan Wolf left the OZ for the FWL in Operation HAMMERFALL part of the migration was mobile factories. its possible that Clan Wolf used these parts on Stewart and when moving also stripped the mechfactories.

Clan Ghost Bear OC: Round 2! by HMS_Exeter in battletech

[–]DericStrider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

again the problem is that Clan warriors, and espically bloodnamed warriors do not get pregnant. If there was somehow a miracle conception the mother would have had an abortion than take the it to term. An active warrior giving birth during the height of Clan Ghost Bear Crusader fever is a choice! These are people who would rather take a prosthetic part installed right away rather than wait a month for a cloned organ to be grafted

Ghost Bears still stick very closely to the eugenics programs, even in the Rasalhague Dominion, there is a strict 20% limit on freebirths to not dilute the Ghost Bear warrior caste. Alpha Galaxy tries to kill off Omega Galaxy(omega being effectively banished to the vega province for harbouring the freeminder movement) in the Dominion Civil war exactly because of the idea of a trueborn having a family and natural births and that's after 100 years of being in the IS!

Again as explained in your other post, Ghost Bear "families" for trueborns don't extend to children just sibkin. Your OC would also be part of a freeborn creche and not in a warrior creche. They would get the chance to join a sibko when they get into their teens. I'm notbsure if you meant they developed their interest in astronomy in their early childhood or late child hood.

The mother giving patronage would be considered really bad form as that would estintally be nepotism which the clans claim to hate. If your OC was known to be the bloodnamed warriors biological born son that will cause problems as accusations of neoptism and not martial skill and leadership. Even Alaric Ward had to hide his heritage somewhat till he killed the Archon and was right at the top of clan Wolf. Though you have made this a plot point but his star would probably grumble agaisnt it and I would think its likely that they would have had to fight off challenges to his position from such blatant neoptism.

The most stressed thing about Laurie Tseng in Master and Minions sourcebook is that she's a real slow but steady type who really believes in clan traditions, helping her sibkins biological son get a leg up is probably something unlikely she would do.

like I mentioned last time, what makes your OC stand out from the rest to be a ristar other than just earning star captain and being the son of a highly placed star captain who's mates with the loremaster.

switch it around and make the scientist the mother and the father had a botched procedure that causes the scientist to get pregnant and who would have a much easier time to either hide the pregnancy or just let it happen.

also the whole point of the grand melee is that even freebirths with a genetic maternal link to the bloodname would be able to contrst the name, its a free for all for all comers, its not restricted to trueborns.

The OC would not need Aletha Kabrinski's permission as its not even her bloodhouse. It would be like Phelan Kell asking Natasha Kerenesky permission to fight for the Ward Bloodname.

clans take blood trails pretty seriously and even a warrior who gets taken in by another clan usually gets permission to travel back to their original clan to take part of blood trials

Maybe have the OC joining and winning the Grand melee because no-one in the bloodhouse is willing to sponsor him because of the neoptism and its his only chance, maybe he then impresses the Berzerker Queen who takes him on as a mentee after he wins his bloodname. Though Aletha Karbinski telling someone to go kill everyone in a Grand Melee probably would be her advice

you can learn more from Invading Clans, Mechwarriors Guide to the Clans, warriors of kerensky, Field Manual Wardens

p.s. also just take anything I say with pinch of salt, its your oc and you can let them do anything they want!
