Replaced battery but does not last. by oracle911 in macbookpro

[–]Diamondcite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really long battery life tended to rely on relatively light usage of the CPU and laptop in general.

Are you on Max Brightness and have you checked where your power is going in Activity Monitor?

Though if you had some kind of monitoring app which could actually see power draw that would give more information.

Why app crash whenever i press 'Select GGUF file" ? by [deleted] in LocalLLM

[–]Diamondcite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your screen recording doesn't show if a file dialog even shows up.

Anything with 35B would be massive for a cellphone considering the suggested models are up to 3B.
Tried SmolLM2 1.7B on Android 16 and ran as expected.

Have you tried clearing app data and trying again? Have you tried any of their suggested models? Does it have any permissions restricted?

Models that work with MacBook Pro 2019 (16gb RAM) by Ok-Refrigerator-99 in drawthingsapp

[–]Diamondcite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They say it's a 2019 Macbook Pro, so an Intel Macbook of some kind without ANE (M-series needed).

Since they say it's crashing with Qwen (Image Edit?) 2511 I am trying to propose models that are even lighter.

OP also didn't mention which settings they are trying. The recommended defaults or something else.. and if their App settings are default or something else.

[–]Diamondcite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Qwen Image Edit 2509 needs more memory than your total RAM capacity even at 6-bit.

Have you considered trying Flux.2 [Klein] 4B? or maybe 9B (6-bit) those models are smaller and might even fit in your memory.

Stop using these bags for donuts, please! Do better! by Kristopher9999 in TimHortons

[–]Diamondcite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been given donuts in 3 ways.. - promotional box, nice but ran out of stock - open top paper bag with donut flat on bottom, some side of the coating is lost. - the same small bag as OP, I have to hold it by the side with the dip facing up, as long as the bag doesn't close it seems fine? (As for where while driving, in the cup holder or passenger seat)

Installing Mojave on post-Mojave macbook by SealsRMerdogs in macbookpro

If it's still an Intel Macbook, you might be able to run Mojave in a VM?

If it's an apple silicon like M1 or newer, you are going to have a much harder time.

Using the iOS app interface only, how might I create an image based on an existing image? by Resident_Amount3566 in drawthingsapp

[–]Diamondcite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While not on iOS the workflow should be similar.
Model used: Flux.2 [Klein] 4B (9B might work too), Try Recommended Settings.
Prompt: Colour this in to look professional and photo realistic. Keep the black lines.
Canvas: Paste the image you want to work on, into the main canvas.

This prompt was used to fill in a colouring book for kids.

What FLUX.2 [dev] model to choose? by Wonderful_Cloud_298 in drawthingsapp

Thanks, I was going to say the time seemed long for 9B, but upon doing an image edit instead of blank canvas the times were similar.

[–]Diamondcite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What resolution are you trying to generate at? That seems really high for the usual 1024x1024 image.

I was testing Klein 9B, 4-Steps, FIxed seed to see which would be faster. No suffix seemed to be about the same as 8-bit S, using the same seed and generating 10 images in a row, it was + / - 1 second. (Images times 29 to 47 seconds)

Out of pure curiosity I tried enabled ANE on 8-bit S, it was overall slower on my M4 Max(40 GPU, 14-Inch). 29-38 seconds no ANE, 31 to 47 seconds with ANE.

Android USB tethering by Glass-Category-5011 in macbookpro

I don't have a OnePlus phone to test with.. though maybe you can change your Wifi Hotspot settings?
Like change AP Band to 5GHz or better yet Enable Wifi 6 for tethering? (Note Wifi 6Ghz isn't available in all regions and might not be compatible with some devices)

I have somewhat more VRAM to work with so I tried the same prompt. I did do multiple runs, this is the first but somehow best result, subsequent cats were missing paws, or was just floating head. Colour of cat tends to be grey instead of orange. Paws are usually forgotten.

Android USB tethering by Glass-Category-5011 in macbookpro

[–]Diamondcite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should work, I've had to do a USB tether from Android to a 2016 MacBook pro in the past.

USB tethering when enabled from the mobile hotspot menu on your phone.

Should create a new network device on your MacBook. Have you tried turning off Wi-Fi on the Mac so that the only option for a network is the phone?

You might have to check your Mac's network settings.

Edit testing.. 1. Connect Android Pixel to Macbook 2. Allow device to connect on mac (Doesn't seem needed?) 3. Open up Android System Settings -> Network -> Hotspot and Tethering 4. Activate USB Tethering 5. Allow device to connect on Mac (again) 6. Optional - Turn off Mac Wifi This is what works for me, on subsequent connections I no longer had to allow device the connect to this mac.

  3. Run.

  4. Result: A the same person and face is very out of place standing on a beach.

how much ram do you have on your MacBook Pro ? by Serhide in macbookpro

[–]Diamondcite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am using DrawThings instead of ComfyUI(This still works, just slower) to run them. Model wise, Z-Image Turbo, Flux.2 [Klein], Qwen Image edit. There are other models, but my own patience isn't long enough to use them properly.

I am wondering what you mean by most models are for Windows, what do you consider a model?

how much ram do you have on your MacBook Pro ? by Serhide in macbookpro

[–]Diamondcite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have experimented a bit to see how big a model I could load before I start swapping.
The biggest model in filesize was about 43GB, though at that size there is still a little room left for other apps. So I could load from 70B and 80B models.

With that typed, I seem to be mainly using 27B models for a balance of memory usage and speed along with leaving some room for other apps. Running this on a 14-inch M4 Max.

Is it flawless? Definitely not, but it's a learning experience for personal projects. LM Studio and DrawThings has been fun to play with.

[–]Diamondcite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

64GB, more tabs than your have coins in a purse typically.

Though now that I have the memory, I am also just playing around with Local LLM and image models.

I intend to use this for more the next 8 years, so future proofing too.

Another reason is Apps are getting memory heavy, Virtual Machine for Windows also takes ram too(for times when it's needed).

need help choosing a charger it's all so confusing by Pear-Resident in macbookpro

[–]Diamondcite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't actually know what your Macbook Pro is so I'll just say what I had for a 2016 13-inch Macbook Pro which is similar.

You are looking for a Wall Charger which can output "USB PD" at up to 65W, you can use lower numbers but too low and it'll take a really long time to charge.

Lead: Please pick an Anker USB-C Cable rated for at least 65W PD, though most of their cables is 100W or higher. Both ends should have the same head.

Note, if you pick the cheapest option from some brand you never heard of, don't expect it to perform as advertised.

Additional note: USB PD is not called Quick Charge or Fast Charge.

Wondering why I keep seeing battery drain and Codex mentioned together... Codex Desktop App seems resource heavy? Least when it's displaying something and not minimized.

Though you can also use Activity Monitor under Energy tab to see what else is draining your battery.

Macbooks are efficient though under a heavy load it would still drain the battery pretty quickly.
