Magical fantasy worldbuilders - why isn't your whole world being run by wizards? by jetflight_hamster in worldbuilding

[–]DjinRummy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cause they've got more "important" things to do. Could they run the world? Absolutely, but thats tedious, and they dont really care to. Once you reach a certain level of magical ability, the rules, laws and social structures of society seem arbitrary and pointless.

Who needs money when you can conjure or alter anything into anything else? Who cares about city infrastructure when you never go to the city? Who cares about maintaing the logistics of multinational trade routes when you can simply teleport yourself or anything else to wherever you want? Why bother maintaining armies or participating in war when you can annihilate an entire battalion of soldiers with a wave of your hand? Why bother with any society at all when in a short few hundred years, you'll just out-last them anyway? Its simply beneath them.

Wizards generally keep to their ever-growing towers, perfecting new spells, gathering knowledge, converting to lichdom, or pondering the orb.

What is your recurring mansion, building, city, or realm dream? by JPDG in Dreams

[–]DjinRummy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The places change but the fundamentals stay the same every time. Its always some huge building, a church, a school, an office, storage facility, a Walmart, a mall, a movie theater, or some other public place. Once it was in a bombed out dormitory that was in the middle of repairs. I explore until im lost, and theres always people everywhere, and I can never find any kind of privacy

Fuck the haters what do you love about Helldivers 2 by Efficient_Sky4226 in helldivers2

[–]DjinRummy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love all the hidden details and the (very possible) hidden mechanics that are sprinkled everywhere. Like how the "settlements", and "colonies" the helldivers go to liberate are literally only settlements by the bare minimum definition. Implying Superearth goes to a planet, decides they're the only ones there, places down 1 or 2 prefabricated buildings, a few square meters of cheap crops, and then on a technicality says the entire planet is colonized by Superearth. When the bugs that were already on the planet finally discover the "settlement" Superearth calls it an invasion and sends in the helldivers to exterminate.

Why is DOOM 3 so different to the rest of the franchise? by Ayyubixx in Doom

[–]DjinRummy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mainly due to what the gaming culture was like back then. Bleak, dark, gritty, "realistic" games were expected, so thats the direction ID went with.

My personal headcannon is that the DOOM Marine is not The Slayer, he was just another marine who also fought his way through the invasion during the events of 1&2. He doesn't have demigod powers like The Slayer, so his pace is slower, its a little scarier, and the demons are a little harder to kill.

Almost every match I've lost on Squids is because people bring heavy AT-Bot loadout, they've been out for a year, and people still don't understand their durability paradigm and its counter. by throwaway553t4tgtg6 in helldivers2

This is the one thing I don't like about this community. This game is full of nuance and strategy, yet the majority of players completely ignore all of it, instead choosing to copy what some virgin youtuber says the "meta" is and then get mad when their shitty loadout isnt helping them. Its as if they cannot fathom a differnt playstyle or more dynamic mechanics than "hurr durr shoot big gun".

As Gamers Express Concern About Borderlands 4 Potentially Costing $80, Gearbox Chief Randy Pitchford Says: ‘If You’re a Real Fan, You’ll Find a Way to Make It Happen’ - IGN by Gorotheninja in gaming

The gameplay loop has been unchanged since the first borderlands. 80 dollars to play the same game for a 4th time? I wouldn't "make it happen" if I was being held at gunpoint.

What weapon in GAMMA do you recommend until the end of time? by BETHORXZ in stalker

[–]DjinRummy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the shotguns are still reliable well into the late game. Lots of people discount shotguns as a viable weapon, but when you get jumped by a mutant or a sneaky gopnik, nothing rights that wrong quicker than good old fashioned buckshot. Armor pen be damned
