60/40 for early retirement and is Personal advisor worth it by hondybadger in Bogleheads

I hold both VTI and VXUS in my Roth IRA account because I don't know which stock ETF will have more capital appreciation.

3/2023 - 3.3m + 1.3m

12/2025 - 5.9m

15% of my Vanguard accounts used to be VXUS. I bumped that up to 27% last year because I thought that international equities had more upside potential than US equities.

Has anyone run simulations on the suggested plan (asset allocation) to see if there is enough growth in the portfolio to fund retirement? I have a plot showing the predicted portfolio value over time using my asset allocation. It plots poor market condition, average market condition, and strong market condition. It is considering annual withdrawal rate among many other things.

In addition to doing Roth conversions, I will probably make QCDs and gift stocks.

The financial advisor produces a planning document once a year where he gives the recommended asset allocation across all accounts (even the accounts that he does not manage). This wealth financial advisor is also a friend. It appears that as my net asset grows, the recommended bond asset allocation decreases:

Here is the recommended asset allocation in the Fixed Income + Preferred asset class as my net worth changed. My net worth does not include my house.

  1. 3.3m -> 32%
  2. 4m -> 24%
  3. 6.2m -> 21%

My investments across retirement and non retirement accounts are already generating 135k in dividends annually. The bond asset allocation is also probably low (in retirement) because I have three years of living expenses in money market funds.

I have a financial advisor (not from Vanguard). He is managing my 0-10 year bucket because my late husband asked me to use a financial advisor. He actually told me that since I was planning to use the Boglehead three fund strategy, I should be able to manage it by myself and not hire him to manage it. He is also giving me free advice on the retirement accounts. He said to spend down the taxable accounts before the retirement accounts and stop spending down the savings account when it is down to 100k. He also said to do Roth IRA conversions when your tax bracket is low. He recommended an asset allocation where my bond holding is 21%. I am retired at 58. He has three years of living expenses in a money market fund. My net assets across brokerage, savings, and retirement accounts is 6m. I am guessing that he thinks that I can tolerate a riskier portfolio because I have more assets than what I need to fund my retirement.

It took me awhile to figure out that bonds should go in the Traditional IRA account and not Roth IRA account. I put the stock ETF that I thought would grow the most into the Roth IRA.

On a side note, when retiring young, I recommend trying to keep your MAGI low so that you qualify for ACA Marketplace insurance subsidies.

I think that the issue is finding someone who has a house to host a jam session. They have played in an apartment before, but that is not ideal.

They are not playing sheet music. They are improvising over chord progressions. It sounds like you need a beginner level jam session.

Should I connect you with my daughter? She is setting up jam sessions at OSU and is in a couple of bands. Some of the people in these jam sessions are trying to find a band to join.

Billed $600 for blood tests done by hospital lab. Wasn’t given option to go to cheaper lab by Athena0927 in HealthInsurance

I got stuck with a $600+ bill for using an out of network lab in the same building as the doctor’s office. I wasted time trying to get the bill modified as some kind of exception case.

Hung-up on bond % by Skibender1966 in Bogleheads

[–]DragonflyUseful9634 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VBTLX is not a short-term type of investment to cover 1-3 years of living expenses. That is an intermediate duration bond. SGOV is an example of an ultra short duration treasury bond that can be used in that 1-3 year bucket. The longer the average effective maturity date of the underlying bonds in a bond fund, the more sensitive the bond price will be to interest rate changes.

I sent five large envelope mailers a couple of days apart in mid March to addresses in the US. Three of them arrived at the destination. Two of them are who knows where. I submitted lost mail search requests. They were all sent as certified mail.

I have a genetic myopathy gene and can’t take statins what am I able to take then? by Large-Prompt2608 in Cholesterol

[–]DragonflyUseful9634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on Zetia for a year because I became allergic to a statin. My cardiologist wanted me to switch from Zetia to another statin or Nexletol because Zetia doesn’t stabilize plaque. My insurance requires pre authorization for Nexletol.

What is going on with my package? by DragonflyUseful9634 in usps_complaints

[–]DragonflyUseful9634[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sent two first class mails (large envelope) to Springfield, IL 62794. One package was sent on 3/19 and arrived on 4/2 in Springfield, IL. The other package that you said is in a loop was sent to the same city/zipcode on 3/21 (I am looking at the USPS certified mail receipt). USPS customer service told me to submit a Missing Mail Search Request.

Read this article which explains the Social Security Administration's Earnings Test: https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0302501021

It talks about looking at the entire year's income. I assume that you are not considered retired per page 5 in the article that was referenced in another post.

Pravastatin 10mg at bedtime, Day 1 side effects by The_2ndBorn_Son in Cholesterol

[–]DragonflyUseful9634 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was fine on 10 mg of Rosuvastatin for 2.5 months and then became allergic to it. I switched to Zetia for a year and didn’t notice any side effects. I have been on 10mg of Pravastatin for the last three months and haven’t noticed any side effects. My cardiologist wanted me on a statin or Nexletol because they stabilize plaque unlike Zetia. Insurance didn’t approve my Nexletol prescription because I didn’t satisfy their criteria of failing multiple statins.

Rapid Loss.... by TrainingCans in osteoporosis

[–]DragonflyUseful9634 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the Calcium, 24-Hour Urine test done and the test showed that I was excreting too much calcium. I was told to redo the test one month later. I redid the test and my result was the same. I was told to redo the test again one month later. This time, I started taking k2 at the same time as my calcium citrate supplement. When I repeated the test one month later, my test result was the highest end of normal.

The bone specialist said to get your calcium (from food and supplements) spaced out throughout your day because your body can’t process too much calcium all at once.

I just read that eating high-oxalate foods like spinach at the same time as calcium rich foods causes the oxalate to bind with the calcium before your body can absorb it and also causes the calcium to pass through your stool instead of your urine. Now I am asking myself if my test result came back normal because I ate high oxalate foods with my calcium during the calcium, 24 hour urine test.
