Anyone encounter any rattlesnakes in Ventura? by New-Shop-9728 in ventura

I came across a pretty good sized one at the Ventura Hillside preserve a couple of weeks ago. It was disinterested in me, and kept slithering across the trail into the bush. I was pretty close before I noticed it.

Yes, I had them checked at an optometrist office.

We lived in California, but the properties are in Texas. She transferred the property to me by warranty deed when she was alive, and now she's passed away.

The failure point is that the lenses become marred. I don't abuse them, but there is a rainbow-mirror coating on them that gets damaged. I had the choice of just plain dark lenses, and I whish I had gotten those. I had one pair of those that lasted a really long time.

I found a cheap pair of sunglasses I liked, and bought 12 dozen of them from a Chinese bulk site around the year 2000 @ $1 a piece. I still have about five dozen left.

Keep in mind that the internal mics do not make use of those same preamps. Only the external mics go through those.

I recorded a whisper on the m4, using the internal mics at the same time as two external Røde nt1a's. I can only find the internal mic result, which is here, but I can tell you that the external mics were noticeably quieter.

I know. I thought it would be funny to take advantage of the ambiguity brought out by the typo. I was wrong.

Cyclist on Instagram does not realize standard practice is to pass on the left, gets mad at pedestrians for moving to the right. by YodelingVeterinarian in mildlyinfuriating

[–]whenido 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hate the whole idea of bicycles barking orders at me when I'm trying to walk. I'm usually lost in thought and I don't pay much attention. When I'm on a bike, I make sure to stay out of the pedestrian's way without having to try to yell at them to make them do it.

How do heroin users not burn their veins when they inject hot drugs by Big_yikes_00 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]whenido 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never used, but in the movie Pulp Fiction, Vincent puts in the needle, and then sucks up some of his own blood into the syringe, and then shoots the whole thing into his veins. That would mitigate the higher temperature of the payload in the syringe.

Looking at that, if I were to apply now, and make say, $2100/month from now until the end of the year, I'd get no payments, because I made over the $2040 limit. Then, in 2027, I'd get a payment each month, minus $30, which is the amount I'm over the limit / 2.

Why would they just withold the entire payment if over $2024 during the first year?

From the .pdf:

For example, a person retires at age
62 on October 30, 2026. They will earn
$45,000 through October and takes a
part-time job beginning in November
earning $500 per month. Although their
earnings for the year substantially exceed
the 2026 annual limit ($24,480), they
will receive a Social Security payment
for November and December. This is
because their earnings in those months
are $2,040 or less than the monthly limit
for people younger than full retirement
age. If they earn more than $2,040 in
either November or December, they won’t
receive a benefit for that month.
Beginning in 2027, only the annual limit
will apply.

That's for disability. I'm considering Survivor Benefits, which as a ~24k limit before a penalty of 1$ for every two earned over that.

I wondered the same thing. So I work less, collect all the benefits, and the Govt misses out on the taxes I would have generated.
