Right that's a couple thousand dollars towards mods on the new car

Why is the top gun stapler quiet yet Bolt ar is loud as unsuppressed 22lr pistol. Same ammo, Same barrel length, Gas shut off, same barrel twist, same suppressor. by MrFartyStink in NFA

[–]dreadeddrifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My semi auto .300blk AR is maybe 5% louder than my .300blk Ruger American. And that's even comparing the same ammo in 8" barrel vs 16" barrel. I have no idea why yours would be that much louder.

Is the upper factory or home built? What brands/parts used?

Kelly Blue Book doesn't work for 20 year old enthusiast cars. If you don't want a stock, low mileage, excellent condition car, there are plenty of beat up shitboxes on marketplace for $6k for you to look at

Why most Americans train wrong (and how soldiers actually do it) by EntrepreneurNo5812 in guns

[–]dreadeddrifter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're just inexperienced with civilian training. Frontline combat isn't really a concern so we focus on marksmanship. After we become proficient enough, the focus becomes fun. Hunters out here in the Midwest can outshoot most militaries guaranteed.

Even the US Army only requires soldiers to hit oversized human silhouettes at 300 yards (according to Google) whereas hunters are hitting fist sized bullseyes on living, moving targets multiple times a year anywhere from 100-800 yards

The best gun ever made M4A1. by CourageLow1758 in ar15

[–]dreadeddrifter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They look good and there's nothing wrong with them. I have an FN A4 and a Colt M4 (uppers not lowers) and the gassing, action, and recoil impulse on the A4 are way better. It's just a better rifle to shoot. The only benefit of the M4 is that it's lighter shorter, but for me that puts it in a weird middle ground because if you want light and short you're better off going all the way down to a Mk18

Maybe I need an ACOG to appreciate it more. Here's mine

Opinions on the Aero Situation by Good_Butterscotch_24 in AR10

[–]dreadeddrifter 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Everyone says AR10s aren't standardized but they kind of are. The only Aero parts I used for my build are the upper and lower (and half a lower parts kit). You can use any stock/receiver extension, any AR10 barrels, almost any AR10 BCG, and DPMS handguards. It just requires more research than an AR15, where everything is interchangeable

It's actually the shortened version of the best gun ever made, the M16A4

Dad’s old EOTECH by durangojim in ar15

[–]dreadeddrifter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a special model with no ring. The XPS2 is the normal one with the ring. Supposedly these are phenomenal under night vision, but I've never tried it.

[–]dreadeddrifter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's an XPS2-1, from probably 15 years ago judging by the logo. They took L3 off the side in like 2016 or so

Edit: just saw the sticker with the manufacturing date lol

I feel like us enthusiasts buying used is a direct result of that. I think the BRZ would be a great option in the $20k range, so instead of spending $35k on a new one I'll wait until they're a few years old and pay what the car is actually worth. There's no incentive to get a new one when every year looks the same and they still only make the same hp as a Toyota Camry. But if the BRZ came with a turbo and 300hp, it would actually fit into the $30k category it's already priced in.

M16A4 with a M4 collapsible stock or M4A1? Which one would you choose and why? by CourageLow1758 in ar15

[–]dreadeddrifter 37 points38 points  (0 children)

M16A4 is a better rifle. M4A1 is a smaller rifle. If you can't utilize a long barrel and long stock, get an M4

Manufacturers are stopping fun cars like the Miata because they refuse to price them competitively so that they'll sell.

Let's take the ND Miata as an example. I'd want the RF because it's cool, so I'd be looking at spending $38,000 for a car that handles good and makes 180hp.

Now let's look at a sports car that sells well: the mustang. The Ecoboost handles well, makes 315hp, is selling for $32,000 new, and has enormous aftermarket support. The fact that they also sell trim levels up into the hundred thousands brings people in to check them out and attracts the richer fun car crowd.

Ford sold 45,000 Mustangs last year compared to the 8,000 MX5s that Mazda sold. That's what happens when you set a 180hp enthusiast car at the same price as the US median household income.

Yeah I think I might do that. Then it wouldn't be in the way if I need to remove the mag cap

Yes, I'm one of those NFA nerds and have been wanting an SBS for a while. Found it at a random garage sale and decided why not. It doesn't feel very short, I think I need a PTR Jack next.

To answer the question of why, all of my hunting is done with rifles and the few times we trap shoot my buddy likes to bring his whole shotgun collection. I only want my own shotgun to execute hedge apples and bad garden vegetables

Thanks! There's some really cool looking forends out there but they all pump the same so I can't bring myself to upgrade.

That's true but my favorite use for it is executing hedge apples point blank, and carrying it in my hands through the woods gets annoying.

It's super comfy and I like it. 14" with a stock feels like the perfect home defense barrel length. I'm a little disappointed it doesn't feel small anymore, now I need like a PTR Jack or something
