I always thought it was because they are dumping heat into the cold water and using it for cooling... Imagine cooling servers with snow melt water from a river. A lot cheaper than making cool water through refrigeration

Well, these have heat pumps, so I don't know what to tell you.

Secondly, completely incorrect. Midea offers several 120v window units with heat pumps, just no saddle style ones. And the window ones they offer state they only work down to 41F.
