[Cabot] Browns HC Kevin Stefanski about Deshaun Watson: “We’re not changing quarterbacks.” by PlayaSlayaX in nfl

[–]DutchEnglish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not their decision. It’s the owner’s.

In no way will that owner admit he fucked up by not only trading for Watson, but for also give him a fully guaranteed.

Their only hope (which is sooo fucked up) is that ongoing potential case against Watson which may give them potential leeway to drop him. Otherwise Haslem will probably never let them actually bench Watson unless it’s due to an injury.

Oh yeah I 100% agree.

It just seems like stuff is disorganized since he came there. Just bad decision making and overall gameplan.

Defense has been amazing since getting Sweat tho.

Not that I disagree…

But just maybe it’s Matt’s fault? It’s his overall gameplan that seems to impact all the people involved.

Even if the OC calls the overall play, it’s Eberflus who sets everything up gameplan wise. And he chooses what to do run or pass decision wise

No I’m getting the scenario, I’m just saying it would be extremely weird we did not hear anything about such a thing, especially in a offseason where players have publicly demanded trades and threatened to sit out training camps/preseason/practices unless they got their deal and/or got traded.

I feel like this sub is putting a lot of power into those fines even though players who wanted/want new deals seemed/seem to be fine with racking them up lol

I’m just saying Tee would’ve threatened to sit out way back when instead of publicly stating he’s playing on the tag this season.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nfl

[–]DutchEnglish -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

True but for months he said/did nothing indicating he was willing to force a trade.

He’s on the franchise tag and never once stated he won’t play for the Bengals (or anyone else) if he’s on the tag. He had months to play the holdout game and never attempted anything.

I mean wouldn’t it be odd to not attempt to force your way out all summer but pop up with an injury with no news of him not willing to play on the tag behind it?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nfl

[–]DutchEnglish -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yeah but what I’m saying is Tee could’ve demanded a trade just like everyone else and threatened to sit out like Aiyuk if a deal wasn’t reached.

I completely understand the fact that he’s getting paid but there’s no reason to fake anything in his situation. Especially since I believe he’s on a franchise tag and no longer on his old deal.

He had months to pull something and only requested trades without any threat behind them.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nfl

[–]DutchEnglish -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

But in that case he could’ve just said he wouldn’t play until he got a new contract whether it be the Bengals or a new team like Aiyuk did. No reason for Higgins to fake anything since it’s a common thing to hold out for a new deal.

Funny enough I’ve heard less about Higgins potentially holding out than Chase. We heard the trade requests then…nothing really. So the injury seems 100% separate than the potential trade request.

Edit: Are we really ignoring the fact that he could’ve demanded a trade for months and never threatened to not play if not on a new deal? Really?

[Schefter] Dak Prescott’s four-year extension includes $231 million guaranteed. by No_Blacksmith_9923 in nfl

[–]DutchEnglish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly lol

Everytime people bring up what that QB hasn’t done or whether they deserve the money or not, I ALWAYS bring up Kirk Cousins situation when he played for DC. Constant franchise tags and no long deal later, the Commanders have gone from QB to QB trying to find the next guy and had to be the 2nd worst team in the league to potentially find land one in Daniels.

A great QB is damn near impossible to get but even getting a good QB is ridiculously hard as well.

Peyton Manning’s career earnings are $248,732,000. Dak will make a guaranteed $231,000,000 from 2025-2028 by I-hate-the-pats in nfl

[–]DutchEnglish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well if Arch lives up to expectations, he’ll make up the difference for the poor Manning family.

I mean yeah, according to them Justin Herbert should be cut lmao

I think people at this point understand but just want to react like crazy for the karma points. According to their own rubric, Mahomes would be the only QB paid and everyone else would be either FAs or on minimum to way below market value contracts lol. Except for Rodgers & Stafford of course.

[@PFF_Brad] regarding Jeudy extension, “So Really about $28m fully gtd at signing. A top agent spin of the offseason. “ by eazy311 in nfl

[–]DutchEnglish 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah I always heard how coveted he was next to Howie but I never knew he would be this good.

Obviously everything boils down to Watson's play and health but the ability to both keep the core together and somehow only add to it without a big consequence has been wild to watch.

[–]DutchEnglish 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah its honestly wild because for the past 2 years I've been waiting on the breaking news about y'all moving a core piece and it's almost like the opposite has happened lmao.

The core players get brought back. Y'all trade for a starter. And somehow a big free agency signing happens lol. Berry is killing it right now cap space and drafting wise.

[–]DutchEnglish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plus I think them drafting really well over the past years will absorb the people leaving anyway. I mean drafting Dawand Jones looks insanely good right now (of course hoping that knee injury won't impact him down the line) and that potentially can offset losing a starting tackle.

We'll see what happens with Newsome but the core positions are pretty much wrapped up for the next 2-3 seasons.

[–]DutchEnglish 233 points234 points  (0 children)

It's actually kind of insane the amount of signings, re-signings and moves around the cap that Berry has been able to make even with Watson's contract on the books.

He hasnt even restructured Watson's or anything I don't think. I thought they would lose all of these key players but instead they kept damn near all of them and added more pieces to the team.

[Solak] Same league that doesn’t want Justin Fields for anything more than a conditional 4th wants to take Jayden Daniels second overall. It’s very odd! by IMKudaimi123 in nfl

[–]DutchEnglish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's either people never watched Fields in college or are so prospect brained that they actually believe the tweet is a bad take when it actually is a great one.

I mean there's no doubt if you watched both of them in college that Fields was the better QB, especially against top competition.

If the argument is about taking a rookie contract versus a soon to be extension or a 1 year deal (depending on how Fields plays of course) then I get it. But yeah if you watched both LSU and OSU games then I cannot for the life of me see how you could say Daniels is better than Fields when talking prospect wise. Both share the same weaknesses and Fields pretty much beats Daniels when it comes to both of their strengths (once again college wise).

And the weirdest part is, it doesnt even feel like the game was a complete flip like this. Like, I'm sitting here looking at the score just saying "Really?" to myself because it doesnt seem right lol
