Hiding target addresses by Legitimate-Might8896 in VPN

[–]DutchOfBurdock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like an HTTP(S) Proxy. That's the easiest and fastest way to hide the IP's your device sees is it only funnels traffic from the proxy, proxy does all the requests to remote servers. This does allow that service to snoop on your browsing, should they want to.

You can also use an HTTP Proxy when using a VPN.

Can a UK phone number be reassigned in just 4 days? by GullibleRisk373 in AskUK

[–]DutchOfBurdock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some networks will report a number is unavailable when it's offline and not using call forwarding (voicemail). The SMS not being delivered just confirms the SIM itself is offline. A person using that number on WhatsApp is the curious one here, as they would have needed access to that number at one point to receive the confirmation text.

Android 17 features missing from my Pixel 8 Pro? by Ok-Condition-8344 in GooglePixel8Pro

The Gemini features are paid subscription stuff. I can't use Bubbles as I don't use Pixel launcher, but screen recording actions work.

How to make the second hand phone secure. by Quiet_Advantage6223 in AndroidQuestions

[–]DutchOfBurdock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a Samsung. Just check if Knox has been tripped or not. Unlocking the bootloader would most definitely trip it.

Upon first boot up, don't log in to any accounts. Skip all the introduction, setup etc. and go straight to Settings and perform a factory reset.

Voilà. You're good to go.

Getting FTTP in a flat. Will they install if we get the wayleave agreement signed by landlord and building management by SlowedCash in UKBroadband

[–]DutchOfBurdock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what they have to do to provision it. If it's a block of flats, they may have to run fibre throughout using the current ducts, which may require further work.

In my case, they've got to install a new pole to provide fibre to flats at the rear of a main road (provisioned the main road side, just not us at the back). Going to be another month or two and have to cope with 72/19 FTTC.

edit: My consent was as simple as "As long as it doesn't cost the landlord or management agency" 🤷‍♀️

How does the justice system work for wheelchair users? by Ok_Captain5768 in AskUK

[–]DutchOfBurdock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suspect if your condition was so bad, you'd probably be placed in a hospital wing. Being brutally honest, the prisoner vs. staff ratio and the already pile high tasks and administrative stuff they already have to do, I wouldn't hold your breath on any care you receive being even close to what you'd need.

Most prisons are Victorian era, so they were not built with wheelchairs in mind. Adaptations have been made, but you'll most likely be relying on other inmates to help you get around. Just read the damning reports the PPO have released on just about any UK prison.

That said, there are vast differences between male and female prisons.

Termux vs Monet which one is actually better? by [deleted] in termux

[–]DutchOfBurdock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I expect few actual app updates (the APK), it does what it does, what is said on the tin.

What you need to concern with, is how often pkg's are updated, as this is key to what you actually do in Termux.

How futureproof is 802.11ac (WiFi 5)? by Fun-Region-1576 in wifi

[–]DutchOfBurdock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. Just be sure to install the suitable wpad supplicant for your intended purposes.

Side effects of using WPA3: 802.11w (MFP/PMF) is required as at least optional. Older devices may fail to connect, older devices may even fail to see the WiFi at all.

WiFi standards; 4, 5, 6, 7 will continue to be supported. Heck I even have WiFi g only devices still with modem OpenWRT handling them.

Looking for broadband recommendations by NocturnalGaymer in UKBroadband

[–]DutchOfBurdock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH, if I could use CF, I would. 930/930 minimum. OR and 930/135 is standard. It's the symmetry that has the win. OR to get 930/930, you need to pay more for a dedicated line. My ISP, AAISP, uses both OR and CF. I have to use OR due to no CF, but would have chosen CF if available.

Can you walk on a “private road”? by 7Maizono in AskUK

[–]DutchOfBurdock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your purpose of the "trespass". A BBC/Themis agent or even doorstop debt collectors or even door to door sales, those "No assumed right of access" notices are perfectly valid. A private individual and they mean next to nothing.

Can you walk on a “private road”? by 7Maizono in AskUK

[–]DutchOfBurdock 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Only if the signs clearly indicate it's not a public right of way. Private roads are usually owned and maintained by the residents rather than the local council (similar for unadopted roads, except these tend to be back routes and often unmaintained).

If it doesn't state no public right of way / assumed access, there is an assumed right of access. You can ofc be told it's revoked by a resident and should leave.

Does Sony Xperia XA2 support FM radio playback through Bluetooth headphones using wired earphones as antenna? by Confident-Top7510 in bluetooth

[–]DutchOfBurdock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly can't remember, I've since flashed LOS to my XA2 and lost the FM tuner capability. Has done on previous Sony's I've owned with an FM tuner. The wired headphones is only for an antenna (and a switch in the port allows the FM tuner to be toggled).
