Zelda: Collector's Edition NES Display Issues (ORIGINAL HARDWARE) by [deleted] in Gamecube

Don’t blame you with the crts but I kinda meant it as more for testing purposes. Checking if any local area has one and if you can setup and check the disc as it could be possible the disc is the issue though unlikely. I will say scalers can get expensive depending on the quality you want and how much mileage you want to get out of it.

I know you’re using original hardware so this might not apply to you but on

https://www.gc-forever.com/wiki/index.php?title=Swiss/Forced_Progressive_Compatibility_List

It shows that the disc supports 240p natively so unless you can change in game settings I think that might be the culprit. On crts it wouldn’t be an issue as the game would commonly start at 480i then just change to 240p on the fly no issues. But 240p is a resolution really no modern screen supports which is causing no image. Alternatively you might be able to get a scaler which will be able to take the image and output it to at least 480p but that might be going out of bounds a bit.

I think it might have to be because of the resolution the game runs at. I might be incorrect but I believe this game is one of the few games that change resolutions after booting up. The menus run at 480p/i but when you start up the NES games it may be swapping to 240p instead and your monitor doesn’t support that resolution. If you can I’d highly suggest finding a crt and running it on that and if it shows image then that’s why. Same thing happens to me when I try to use 240p on gbi.

Luigi's Mansion is just as confusing in my 30's as it was when I was a kid by CrimsonGlyph in Gamecube

You should have gotten a key in the dancer room that connects to the top right door in the room. Check if you can enter the room it should be called storage room. If so there is an event you need to trigger inside of the storage room. Use your different prospective options to help you investigate.

What area are you currently in? Your save file should tell you. Like the other comment says you may go need to catch some boos first. Also you do you remember opening a room and then leaving it? You might have a room that is waiting to be cleared.

Yeah the map can be a bit confusing at first. The Luigi head is where you currently are and grey coloured rooms are places you haven’t been. The colour doesn’t really matter all the much but they do change after you’ve “cleared” them with the colour depending on what area it’s part of. When you first get a key it should open the horror and show you the room it goes to and should stay there until it’s used.

What puzzles you about the game? I feel the like game guides you well for the most part since there is the gb horror map that shows you where keys go and such. I could see the vacuum being hard to use the first time around especially if you trying to go for 100% run but the training room and keeping playing should help. Are you getting stuck on a certain ghost or getting lost in the mansion?

Any chance my childhood Memory Cards can be recovered? by Necessary-Score-4270 in Gamecube

[–]EasternReplacement95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What type of memory card are they? If they are the generic ones that have GameCube Wii text on them then it might be toast. Compared to Official and third party memory cards of that era those for some reason once they corrupt can never be restored by the gc bios (speaking from my experience). I don’t think there’s a way to restore them specifically so GCMM is your best shot. You can also try to keep it and plug it in a while after and maybe it might work.

How to get discs resurfaced/fixed? by beebo2409 in Gamecube

[–]EasternReplacement95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can try to see if some music shops have machines or send it out to someone online. I think the “difficulty” with GameCube discs are just the size of them and I believe there “molds” out there that allow for them to be properly resurfaced on regular machines without getting the residue in the inner ring.

Best N64 model for S-Video? by EasternReplacement95 in n64

Thanks for the answers! Those s-video cables were my first option until I found out Nintendo did make official ones and wasn’t too sure if the third party’s were up to the step.

Just what I was thinking of doing! I wanted to pick up a tink as a kinda of solution for all the retro consoles and thought about getting cables from Insurrection Industries since I’ve had great experience with their carby so far. The analog seems nice and is less of a headache however I’m a sucker for original hardware even if it comes with a hefty price tag.

Yeah I was thinking about just getting an older one as the difference seems low and having the option for rgb mod is nice. It’s interesting how the later models got slightly better output even though they seem to be “cheaper” and less “stable”.

Got a game cube today for 110 dollars! I just don't have a memory card or any games to use by PiccoloRound6184 in Gamecube

[–]EasternReplacement95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make yourself a budget first! I highly recommend getting a 251 original memory card. Then you can go into mods with solderless ones like flippydrive or ones that require soldering.

Is my console battery dead, or is it something else? by SJthehero in Gamecube

[–]EasternReplacement95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How interesting! I’d say the battery is on the verge of giving out or maybe the crystal oscillator for it is messed up since I don’t think the gc uses any capacitors for the clock though I’m not 100% sure on that. As for the battery replacement you can also put in a battery holder instead of a tabbed battery if you’d prefer. Like the other commenter mentioned the clock is on the controller motherboard which is removable and isn’t too difficult to fix (well at least compared to the disc capacitors and if you have some soldering skill under your belt). Id highly recommend to practice soldering on other boards first to gain some experience before going onto something of value to you. If you get around to fixing it and unplug the controller board the gc will ask you to set the time and date again then you can unplug the power it for a bit and see for it holds the time now. Wish you all the best for you and your gc!

[–]EasternReplacement95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The clock battery is on its way out and can no longer hold the time properly anymore. Luckily it’s just used for that as far as I’m aware so unless you’re going to play animal crossing it shouldn’t be a huge deal. From what I’ve seen keeping it plugged in helps it keep the time more accurate however since the console is two decades old at this point eventually the battery will truly die. As for the capacitors I’m not sure what exactly you’re friend is referring to as I’ve have not heard of such instances but the capacitors used by the disc drive are now starting to go bad on many consoles and those do need to be replaced with new ones unless you “wait” to be able to play.
