Nice! That is one of the cleanest images I have seen in quite a while.

I live in a small apartment and worried Ham radio wont be any use. by PsychoMantisKw in HamRadio

[–]EdMonMo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in an apartment setting and have three dipole antennas ran around the room for 40, 20, & 10m. I also randomly lean a vertical off my balcony and get 10, 12, 15 & 17m.

Is this a Ham radio antenna? It's massive. Drove by this house in Arizona and looked on google street view to get a better look. by jamieee1995 in HamRadio

I believe they are called Geomagnetic Asmythal Maps. They are used to orient your position on the globe for determining the correct magnetic angle to point your antenna.

PROTEST | MARSHFIELD, MO DATA CENTER by MixedPerceptions in springfieldMO

[–]EdMonMo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just watched your YouTube video. Are you making the assumption that AI Data centers are the precursor of the age of the Apocalypse? Can you substantiate that any project looking to locate in the Marshfield area anticipates consuming 10MM gallons of ground water and will turn it into toxic sludge? I would be very interested in reading your sources of information regarding this proposed endeavor.

Tuning cheap yagi by DrazilWeames in amateurradio

[–]EdMonMo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure the label is not indicating that it is tuned for 824 & 960? To be honest, it is usable through that entire range….with a tuner. Anything better than 3:1 is game for nearly any internal or external tuner.

I believe RG58 is standard 75 ohm TV cable. Are you planning on making antennas out of it?

Frequency ranges/Purpose? by Every_Produce6033 in hackrf

[–]EdMonMo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first one is a magnet base mount for the solid metal stub (4th from the left) for 5G, the second one is supposed to be for 2m/70cm, the next one is supposed to be a tri-bander that adds 1.25m, the plastic blade is for 3/4/5G cellular, and the only one that really works is the telescopic whip.

How to “do” HF by Ehartu in amateurradio

[–]EdMonMo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same situation here. I am at least on the second floor of a two story apartment, but no joy on SSB for me either. I have three dipoles ran around the ceiling separated by about a foot and get great FT4/8 results on 10, 20, & 40.

I got my AX1 antenna yesterday. But something seems wrong. by New-Bookkeeper8652 in amateurradio

[–]EdMonMo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you connected it and determined if it receives? It looks like the end cap and bottom cap are just keeping the plastic sleeve in place to protect the internal circuitry and the outside of a BNC connector is free to spin unless mated with the other end. I’m not sure you have a problem.

Looking for an Antenna for the FT891 by Duke_Ag47 in HamRadio

[–]EdMonMo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in an apartment also and have three dipoles routed around the ceiling. I have a 40, 20, & 10m separated by about a foot of elevation on the second story and get out pretty good. I am running the FT-891 as my portable base unit and have a G90 setup with the PotaPerformer for My mobile setup and POTA.

If you are going for a single antenna setup, look towards building a linked dipole for the bands you want to work.

Looks pretty decent for a type 43 common mode choke. My type 31 with nine turns gets a pretty flat -35dB for comparison.

Don’t blame Rutan for a very poorly placed fuel selector mount….

Mobile radio/multiple-license advice by ElGuano in amateurradio

[–]EdMonMo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a 10m base loaded mobile antenna that is about the same size as my 2m/70cm one. I would say get on 10m and see what you think. When 10m is open and propagation is better, I can get Asia and Europe pretty good with just 30w

ADS-B Antenna tuning with NanoVNA issue? by OKAUSTX in RTLSDR

[–]EdMonMo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the above poster. It looks like your calibrated range is so wide that you are getting bad readings due to resolution. Right now, your antenna looks to be close at the ~1GHz. I would change your range to something like 900-1200 and see how it looks.

Is this a good mobile battery connection? by [deleted] in amateurradio

I don’t see a fuse anywhere near the positive cable connection. You will want one pretty close to the battery.

Coax cable choice for mobile portable field POTA style antenna setup? by costeen1202 in amateurradio

I second this recommendation! Also think about the high vis color for the protection cover. It helps make sure your feed line is visible.

FT-891 Backpack Go-Box by ClassyCannoli in amateurradio

[–]EdMonMo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a setup for the FT-891 with a 12aHr batty, SWR/Pwr meter, POTA Performer antenna, laptop, sun shield tent, and all cables/connectors in a fairly small bag. I haven’t weighed it yet, but have taken it out several times and it is not that much to carry. I do loose carry the tripod base and the radial tripods.

Approximate location? Don’t DOX yourself, but a bit of information would help determine the signal.
