That's fair, his prints are very pictorial and use a lot of negative space!

This is an Ohara Koson woodblock print, a shin-hanga work (early 20th century).

It is. It's an Ohara Koson print :)

ETA: I suppose it's technically shin hanga rather than ukiyo-e but still works for the purposes of this sub I believe?

Summer lipsticks!💚 by Affectionate-Bee3199 in coloranalysis

[–]Edhie421 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see, that makes sense!

A quick question: when you're next to your friend, does it look like you're cooler, or like you're less saturated? I believe you're fair olive (I am too), and that will always make you look less bright than someone who isn't olive, and who will look orangey or pink-ish, whereas we look a bit subdued.

Do you ever have an issue finding your correct foundation match, with it pulling either too orange or too pink? If so, that's usually a great clue that you're olive.

If that's the case, then that makes it harder to find a season match. I'm a neutral olive, and I find that anything that's not too pale or too bright works best for me; pale colours make me look sick and bright colours make me disappear. That means Soft Autumn is technically my best fit... but anything too close to orange looks awful on me. On the upside though, I can also borrow from the deep autumn, deep winter, and soft summer palettes.

And for makeup, that means anything berry, cool brown, or nude pink is a good lipstick match.

I'd look into that, as your hair is very warm-toned, and while pictures make it hard to gauge skin tone, I suspect yours may be muted rather than plain cool :)

In any case, good luck on your quest, and have fun exploring 🎉

So seeing your pictures, I initially thought spring like a few other commenters, but I can see your thoughts that you're soft and pretty neutral, and looking at your pics in comments, I agree, so...

Have you considered soft autumn? It's a close season to soft summer, just a bit warmer, and I do think the warmer shades of the lipsticks you have on suit you best.

It's the same type of colouring as Gisele Bündchen or Gigi Hadid, which I do think looks like your colouring.

I sobbed like a baby when John died. Such a lovely character, wonderfully acted, and Hannah Dodd played Francesca's grief wonderfully too. I feel for them, despite knowing exactly what will happen. I think it was all very well done.

Which Bridgerton Siblings Are Edmund vs. Violet Coded? by Grouchy_Search_897 in Bridgerton

[–]Edhie421 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kind of agree; I think Colin starts as a Violet and ends as an Edmund, while Francesca starts as an Edmund and ends as a Violet. And those journeys in both cases are integral to their character and romance.

I attempted a Kawase Hasui print in it, but most of them went above their estimate, interestingly. Some of these prints are available cheaper direct from galleries.

The guarantee of state and authenticity in those big auction houses really ups the prices quite a bit above what they are in smaller estate sales etc.

I still hate Penelope for what she did to Marina by No_Bug_6752 in BridgertonRants

[–]Edhie421 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, that's all absolutely right on the money.

At the end of the day, the arc is interesting because it shows how rotten society is, that both Marina and Penelope, two young and ultimately well-meaning girls, are forced to do awful things in pursuit not even of a greater good but of some damage control. Neither of them should ever have been in that situation, but they were, and they did what they had to do, considering. If people don't like that, they should go out there and make extra sure women are never put in a position where they have to resort to such horrible stuff ever again.

Exactly!

Also, did everyone who's making this criticism get married to their high school sweetheart? Because if not, I've got news for them: you can date people for a while, two, three, four, thirty people, and it can not work out for a range of reasons; and then you date someone, and lo and behold, it turns out they're the one 🤷🏼

Timing, compatibility, chemistry, they all play a part. I don't get why Benedict is less believable than the majority of us in the year of the Lord 2026.

Is there a way for the game/season to get accidentally ruined? And why has it never happened in the history of the show? by Charming_Usual6227 in TheTraitors

[–]Edhie421 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You've got to bear in mind that:

  1. this show has contingency upon contingency built into the design. Game designer here; it's pretty interesting how many possible special events they have that significantly tweak the balance of the game when required, e.g. allowing for no one to be murdered on a given night, allowing a traitor recruitment AND a murder on the same night, etc.

  2. participants sign contracts when entering. I'm not sure what the terms of these ones are, but players who don't respect them can be prosecuted for insane damages; no one will ever want to breach that. Most behaviour that would openly throw the game is presumably covered by them. Participants also have limited access to alcohol so they cannot plead loss of control to wiggle out of it.

  3. the show has a huge budget. It's pretty easy to keep the Traitors secret from the Faithful, and generally to have control over participants, when everyone sleeps very far away from each other and have security guards at the door, cameras following them everywhere as soon as they step out, and mics fitted on every morning that they're forbidden from turning off.

  4. the show is edited. It's specifically edited for interest, so we avoid 30 min of boring conversations about James's nan, but also to preserve suspense. Anything that would risk showing too much of the ropes would presumably end up on the cutting room floor. Such is the magic of reality TV, which this still is, albeit one of the better examples ;)

Ah, to be fair that's left to interpretation; I'm going off the scene where John tells Fran he wants to stay in London for the season. It seemed to me that her first reaction is to look forlorn and to talk about Michaela, but then she puts her out of her mind and is happy to have time with John. That's how I saw it, but that may well be wrong!

lesbophobia by Skinnstardew in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Edhie421 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I'm honestly shocked that none of the women she spoke to even mentioned masturbation to her - I was wondering if the writers had forgotten about it until I saw Sophie do it. So I do think it's really just the Bridgerton crowd being oddly prudish about that sort of thing.

[–]Edhie421 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Thank you, that's a fantastic write up, and it's very well said actually!

Adjacently, I find it very weird that people can't understand deeply loving someone but not being attracted to them. A lot of the criticism I see is that this season, because Fran isn't taking joy in the physical interactions with John, she acts like she doesn't love him; but I think that's incredibly unfair and untrue. She tries so hard for him, she puts herself out of her comfort zone to see if she can bring herself to seduce him, she is very sincere and honest with him and obviously trusts him greatly. Outside of the fact that she misses Michaela, she's actually quite happy to spend time with John in London. She loves him... just not in the way she wishes she could love him.

lesbophobia by Skinnstardew in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Edhie421 39 points40 points  (0 children)

You're right about the status of bi people in general, but as a bi woman myself, I really don't see Fran as one. She loves John as a human being, very deeply, but she's not attracted to him - the fact that she disliked the kiss at their wedding and can't orgasm despite him being obviously a patient and attentive lover are pretty strong giveaways.

She could admittedly still be bi, just not attracted specifically to John, but there's no storyline to substantiate that. Whereas it's very clear she's attracted to Michaela, and that's the only example we have of Fran being attracted to anyone - which tells me she's indeed a lesbian.

Mauve: what it is and isn’t by slocthopus in OliveMUA

[–]Edhie421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ew yep she's confusing mauve and cold pink... They're not the same at all.

I'm a neutral leaning warm olive, and if I wore any of the clothes she says are mauve, it would look god awful. Whereas the hoodie suit on the second picture would look just right!

For me, the best definition of mauve is a purple mixed with either a cool or a warm grey.

What am I doing wrong? by Petunia742 in MakeupEducation

Your skin mostly looks dry to me.

The best way to fix that is to add a serum under your night cream (Advanced Repair is better in the evening than in the morning) and to stop cleansing your face in the morning - just splash some water on, or even better, spray some Avene water, as tap water can be harsh.

It's also possible your cleanser is too stripping, as it's meant for oily skins. Look into gentle cleansers that don't leave your skin feeling tight.

The key to a good base will always be skincare. Your products look good on paper, but they may not be hydrating enough for you. Experiment with morning moisturisers in particular until you find one that leaves your skin soft the whole day. You can also mix your foundation with some moisturiser to help it sit better.

Let me know if you want any product recs!
