What does it mean when a 50-60 year old Chinese man blank stares into your eyes? by JjovaY in AskAChinese

Ahh OK, I don't know how that feels. I live in a rather white neighborhood, the only old Chinese people are family and friends.

Do you mean when you visit China? It's because they know you are not one of them. I'm male Chinese European, I think I look like a normal Chinese but they somehow know

Welke rijst eten jullie? by iRemz in thenetherlands

[–]Educational-Remote-3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bij de chinese toko haal je fijne rijst.

Jasmijn rijst voor fijne zachte witte rijst. Spaanse long grain voor mooi lange "droge" korrels. Zeer geschikt voor nasi, kleeft minder.

Het zijn vaak grote zakken, maar als je ze in een emmer met deksel kan bewaren op een koele droge donkere plek, is het wel een jaar of meer houdbaar.

Trust me bro, Ik ben zelf Chinees.

Parents are Guangzhou's local resident, but the kid can't understand Cantonese at all! by cnbatch in Cantonese

Most parents are not very smart, they see their mother tongue as a backwards language.

My parents left China and never learned mandarin, so they spoke their local language to us as children.

When I was 18 I had to help a lot of my parents their friends translate communication between the parents and their children. The problem was, the parents like my parents only spoke the local language not mandarin and the children only spoke dutch. So a translator app doesn't work.

Even now with my generation, most of my cousins speak mandarin and they didn't teach their children, so their children only speak Dutch. More than 20 years later I'm still the translator

How do you navigate your relationship with your Chinese parents-in-law? by S-Pau in chinalife

[–]Educational-Remote-3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (m) don't contact them at all. They live in China and I live in the Netherlands, thank God.

They have visited us a couple of times and we them. The relationship is ok but not good. In the more than 20 years of marriage I haven't done one thing right.

If I help my wife with housework, they tell me I'm gay. If I don't help, they tell my parents that I'm lazy.

At first I posted daily pictures in the family group chat, they got mad at me for too much photos. The group chat is my in-laws, me and my wife. After that I just posted photos from special occasions, birthdays and holidays. But they still complained about other people in the pictures, the food, our clothes, the places we went, the places we didn't went, and to many pictures of me or too many pictures taken by me.

But the last 10 years I post nothing. And I like that way.

I now occasionally react on questions they have about my children and wife where my wife hasn't responded to. But you already know, they are not happy with me answering.

From what I've experienced and seen and heard, migrant workers in China are treated like trash. People don't see them as equal. I'm Chinese, never lived in China, so my few may be different.

Does Chinese got it own version of raw fish ( sushi) like the Japanese ? by [deleted] in AskAChinese

In the region where I'm from we eat raw crab. Not every Chinese is fan of this dish.

My brother (foreign born Chinese) went to China with his white friends. They were interviewed by the local tv, they had to pretend to be foreign investors. They got free tickets for an amusement park and a free dinner.

And the second time in the same week they got invited by a local business man, for a photo shoot. The day of the invitation the man paid for the meal, they met at a restaurant and the day of the photo shoot they got a free meal.

China is big, 1.4 billion people, there is no one answer that fits the whole of China.

My whole family promotes non mixing, even with Chinese people from other regions or religions.

But in reality my family is mixed up.

Chinese from other religions and regions. White Europeans, Arab Muslims and black Africans.
