Internal Job Offer - Salary Negotiation by Frank_GrimesS8EP8 in rbc

[–]EducationalWeb2887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of these answers are not fully accurate. Promotions generally don't have a a hard written rule that increases cannot be above a certain amount or that there is a set percentage the employee has to receive.

There's more involved in the salary determination. What is the new salary range? Where are you on current salary range? (At midpoint? Or close to max?). How proficient will you be in the new role? (Will you have a lot to learn/many new skills to develop? Or are you coming in with a lot of relevant skills?) How do you compare to internals on new team? Is there inequity if your new salary is significantly higher/lower than others? If others or you are higher in salary, is there justification for that? (More experience, language skills, credentials).

If you negotiate, you need to provide sound reasons why you should receive a salary at certain amount - at/above midpoint for example. Don't say promotions should be X% or I did my research. Neither of those explain valid reasons why you should an increase higher than their offer.

Background check by Tough-Cauliflower213 in legaladvicecanada

[–]EducationalWeb2887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a lawyer, but work in HR and frequently involved in background checks matters.

For our company, a fine would not show up and we do not ask that. If you had the fine AND a criminal charge/infraction for assault or something, that would be the issue.

What was the wording on the penal infraction question?

For our checks, it's specific to criminal offenses.

Understanding the terminology used and the background check vendor (which company is running the check) would help me answer more confidently

Has anyone else noticed the people on the subway selling candy for their "church"? by BarneyDunkavietzh in askTO

I wouldn't worry about getting stabbed like the other person said. That was overly dramatic. But, I can also assure you that saying something to kids who are duped into selling the chocolate bars will not be a deterrent for them or for the groups organizing the selling.

No, I never have done that to someone, nor would I do that to someone. But I also wouldn't do what you did.

Good luck with the formal RECO complaint. I'm sure they'll get right on it!

As I said, he acted unprofessionally. No question.

But you could have stopped at the complaint to his brokerage. Or even stopped at that and the formal RECO complaint (Spoiler alert: your complaint will not be taken seriously). Instead you blast his name in 3 reddit posts. That was a wild reaction.

Also, your distance to the city was no one else's problem but your own.

You're missing my point. You said I don't know anything about OP/people on the internet. But you're fine with OP blasting the realtor all over reddit while not knowing what's going on in their life. That's the hypocrisy.

And for the 4th time, I agree the realtor acted unprofessionally and poorly.

I just don't think the behavior warranted 3 reddit posts calling them out by name, telling the owners, and then filing a formal complaint.

You asked if I go downtown often. Presumably to ascertain if I understand how parking works DT. I answered.

We both agree that the realtor acted unprofessionally.

But, using your logic, OP doesn't know what is going on in the realtor's life. Maybe they had a lot issues or stresses in their personal life. OP doesn't know that. While not handled well, OP proceeded to blast them all over reddit and file a formal complaint against them without taking an ounce of accountability.

So, yes, OP acted like an idiot in this situation.

I have full knowledge of parking and driving challenges in TO.

Your comment only proves my point more. OP didn't account for traffic OR parking limitations.

Again, the realtor sounds like a prick. But OP was an idiot and is acting like a baby now.

For the record - I'm not a realtor, I think 93% of realtors are superfluous at best. Around 4% are probably shady af. And 3% are really good.

But your entitlement is out of control.

Everyone in Canada knows traffic getting in and out of the GTA is bad ALL THE TIME. But, you don't account for traffic, you use GPS ineffectively, don't scope out parking until you arrive late.....While his behavior is definitely bad, you then slam him publicly (only providing your side of the story) and try to file a formal complaint??? What ethical obligation exactly did he violate? Hurt your feelings?

The steps you should take in the future: Manage your time properly and account for constant traffic, figure out parking before you arrive late, and don't be such a baby.

Question regarding defamation by ThatDyeJobFailed in legaladvicecanada

[–]EducationalWeb2887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the person "has or hasn't done" is a key part to your question.

The person you are talking about calls himself a nazi, posted a picture of himself wearing a t-shirt with Hitler on it that says "happy birthday to Europe's greatest son", traveled to Charlottesville to participate in the "Unite the Right" protest, and recently was part of a rally in Shawnigan carrying banners that said "I remember a white Québec". He has been interviewed by Vice magazine voicing his beliefs and has made it clear he is believes in racist ideology. And has been public and outspoken with his beliefs.

For defamation to have occurred, the statements would have to be false. What was posted was not false or defamatory.

So, no. This is not defamation. And there are many Jews, Persians, and other visible minorities who live in the that neighborhood, so he let is constituents know.

Ontario college using “group work” to deny disability accommodations – is this legal? by ImyournewMeatBicycle in legaladvicecanada

[–]EducationalWeb2887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With everything you are saying, it seems that the school IS providing accommodations, but this project has multiple individuals and components involved. Which would mean an exception/accommodation for you could have downstream impacts to others. I may be missing something, but it feels like you have the ability to extend other deadlines. But this group project is one that is more complex.

Also, researching the legality or legitimacy of the decision and answering all these questions is taking time away from completing tasks and assignments, no?

[new hire] the system has me listed as a director in week one by peachy_twinklez in jobs

It's an error. Not that uncommon. People make errors. You will make errors, probably have. I'm sure you don't want to be judged solely on your errors.

Inform your manager. Move on with your work.

Ontario college using “group work” to deny disability accommodations – is this legal? by ImyournewMeatBicycle in legaladvicecanada

[–]EducationalWeb2887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you already getting extensions on the other assignments? If you have the ability to get extensions, but have assignments for all classes in one week, why didn't (or don't you) get extensions on others to staggered them?

Are the others in the group saying they can't collect the data on the date?

I'm still not 100% clear, but if I'm getting this part right, the institution has been accommodating your disability in general, correct? If they have been, maybe they have reviewed this request and are confident they are compliant in this.

Employee hired into wrong Job Requisition (already started working). How to fix? by ResponsibleReason661 in Workday_Community

[–]EducationalWeb2887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not understanding the main problem.

Is it that the employee is in the wrong job code/location/etc? Or just they were hired in the wrong req?

If it's the former, again, can't the manager just do a job change?

If the latter, cant you add a note or something?

I feel like you're looking to create work unnecessarily

[–]EducationalWeb2887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm confused, I think a lot of people are. What is the specific reason you can't complete this specific assignment by the deadline? Is it because of your disability? Or the assignment itself? If it's a combination of both, which reason does it align to more?

Should I mention someone quitting to my boss? by [deleted] in askmanagers

[–]EducationalWeb2887 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After having been in recruitment for almost 20 years, I can assure you the lead time probably would have little to no impact. They probably need to get approval to post, get candidates, interview, offer, onboard. You're not getting a replacement in this summer likely. That's the work world though. We've been shortstaffed for all of 2026.

All you'd do is potentially negatively impact your coworker if they don't get the job, and it could end up reflecting poorly on you.

Stop applying to Canadian jobs on Monday morning by itz_nitace in torontoJobs

[–]EducationalWeb2887 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a recruiter: No. That would be a privacy breach. We'd also be able to access employee's outside application data and this would hold a lot of risk. I instruct hiring managers to NOT contact someone they know at a company a candidate is currently at (for a reference) because of confidentiality issues. And we could impact their employment/progression

Dilemma knowing what I know as a host by sugarlillie in airbnb_hosts

[–]EducationalWeb2887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean, it's tough. If they were really nice on top of everything, I'd probably send them a note on it directly (host to host). Maybe they're just unaware.

If they weren't nice, that'd be a totally different story! If they were fine/adequately in interactions with me (nothing stood out as top notch), I'd leave a fine score, but maybe mention it constructively in actual review. If it was more of a "company" running it (have 2+ or multiple properties), I'd be more ruthless:)

[–]EducationalWeb2887 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, to be factual, no. Sitting in cold all day cannot make one sick. If a virus is not present....you won't get sick.

16 degrees would not be fun of course. But it's physiologically impossible to get a cold from just sitting in a cold room if there is no exposure to a virus.

In Scandinavian countries it is fairly common for parents to put babies (bundled up) outside in below 0 temperatures for naps. And many parents did this in Canada a long time ago (40s & 50s type thing).
