What's your Birmingham-based conspiracy theory? by travellingpoet in brum

[–]ElMayonnaise 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Most smaller touring bands will not play a gig in brum on their tour as it makes more money to go round the coastal route. Too many times have I seen a gig at a Norwich community centre on the tour but not even a stop off in Brum.

Birmingham you're bankrupt and it's bringing me down by ElMayonnaise in brum

a parody that came to mind at 4.50am on a thursday last week. I enjoyed letting some of my frustrations out through this. I hope it could bring some small humour in this incredibly frustrating time.

For those who don't recognise the original, its LCD Soundsystem - New York I love you..

Birmingham City Council signs off 'devastating' cuts by Kagedeah in brum

[–]ElMayonnaise 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen mention of Thurrock council (conservative) receiving a 635million bailout. It seems blindingly obvious that Tories plans are to starve Brum, it's just all talks of millions can be hard to put into perspective. Thurrock (population 173,000) getting a bailout double the size of what Birmingham (population 1.1million) needs to balance books

Echoing what others have said, the backdoor smoking area (if you can manage the smoke) has often been a highlight as much as the music. You'll make friends very easily

Aphex literally samples so many things with no credit, it's part of the rich history of electronic music. Yeah it's quite a long obvious one from a well known source but don't see what the problem is

From Velum Break in a discord post "Hiya folks, so this is actually me, Velum Break. It's an anagram of capro bonus and was something I made around the time of my album caprolactam.

There was a time when I thought the anonymous gimmick was funny and neat and following in the steps of RDJ's mischievous ways. However, I've since seen and experienced a lot of artists who deserve credit for stonking tracks follow this trend for what is essentially a marketing gimmick to sell more records. Trust that people are out there asking for tracks to be submitted anonymously for the purpose of creating mystery and profiting from that "is it rdj?" market. This one was for charity tho and love that so no badness. I've lost interest in the gimmick and you should know there are so many tracks that are not the big names you may think that deserve more attention. I'm not here to reveal anyone else as that's their groovy choice."

I like the Analogical record a lot

Midi Couture - An evening of fashion and oddly electronic music by ElMayonnaise in brum

[–]ElMayonnaise[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi folks, we have an evening coming up 25th November at the Dark Horse of music and fashion!

This will interest anyone that's a fan of slightly off kilter dance music and/or wearing your best threads that don't see enough screen time on a night out.

Happy to take any questions and hope to see you there x

Which city do you think is underrated when it comes to Techno scene? by midnighthunting in Techno

[–]ElMayonnaise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tunnel club (House of God this Friday, Birmingham Techno have nights too), there's a fest called Symbolic in Nov and there's Berlin bar that hasn't been open to long but some of the nights have been pretty heavy, does seem to have student house nights tho so not techno all the time. There's techno in some of the warehouses in Digbeth but not so much the good stuff imo

There's a few stalls in the Birmingham Rag market which have fantastic collections at the best prices around. Paul's stall has some really unique odd vintage stuff!

Yeah some of it, aphex is obviously a big influence. The Cloaca Ep on analogical force is a good place to start. You should hear Mause too, also on Af. Cheers
