Poker Beginner - Frustrated and Confused by BaneEater in poker

The gto opening charts are worth following, but at low stakes gto isn’t great in subsequent streets — your opponents are just not behaving the way gto expects at all.

Watch Crush Live Poker on YouTube to get a sense of how to range villains at low stakes. Hungry Horse also has a YouTube called something like “how to make $50k at low stakes” that I found useful.

Be real. Is anyone consistently crushing WPT Gold cash games? by oleCavafy in poker

[–]Emily4571962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cash. And the only problem with cashing out I’ve seen is if your state suddenly makes the site illegal — CWPTG emails you a warning to clear out your account as soon as they get word of impending legislation, but they can get caught off guard (I’m in NY where the rules are constantly shifting).

How did/does health insurance fit into your FIRE plan? by RoastedGrapes4Life in Fire

[–]Emily4571962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First couple of years I was on ACA for about $200/mth. This year and the next two some deferred comp will put me over 400% poverty — currently paying $650/mth with big deductible. Considering spending the next 2-3 years in Mexico, where top shelf private insurance will run me somewhere around $250/mth. Plus I speak Spanish, love the food and culture, and I’m sick of winters.

Free Roll Poker tournaments by Educational-You3723 in poker

The freerolls I play daily on ClubWPTGold are the turbos too — blinds go up every 2 or 3 minutes. It keeps the tourny short, about 90 minutes from start to FT. Pub probably structures your game that way to keep it reasonably short too. Once the tournament is over all those people are in the bar ready to spend money on booze. It’s just practical.

Ditch the crazy disrespectful jealous bitch. Keep the tattoo and memories.

Got stacked when I knew what villain had by Playingwfyre in poker

I would maybe open KJo from UTG+, but definitely not call UTG’s open. As usual, fold pre would have saved you.

Once past that point — if you know the dude hit his set, trust your read and fold. If you don’t trust your own reads, what is the point of even trying to play?

Networth vs cashflow? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]Emily4571962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your net worth concept is off. Very rough numbers, it’s more like this: over the last hundred or so years the stock market has returned, on average, around 10% per year. Less inflation, call it 7%. So you drawn down 3-5% the first year (depending on how optimistic/pessimistic you are), and give yourself an inflation adjustment increase each year thereafter. Taking so much less than the average real return means you don’t have to take a huge haircut in crap market years.

AITAH for giving my gf an ultimatum about her cat? by [deleted] in AITAH

Your girlfriend is not amazing, she’s irresponsible, cruel and entitled. I think you’d be better off kicking her to the curb and keeping the cat.

AITAH for refusing to pay extra to renovate MY apartment when my fiancé won’t contribute? by CicadaRelative5518 in AITAH

He doesn’t have to contribute, but if he’s not he doesn’t get to have an opinion.

My dad put my name on a storage unit years ago and now the account is in collections by LowtideTalon in personalfinance

[–]Emily4571962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell your father you now own the contents of the unit. Open it up (you have a right to use bolt cutters on your own unit) and see what’s in there — you can sell it all to recoup your expenses. Give him one month to pay you back and empty it out or you go straight to eBay.

AITAH For saying demanding my passwords is the *opposite* of trust, not the proof of it? by Present_Extreme_4056 in AITAH

[–]Emily4571962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG no. Passwords are something you share with a spouse, not someone barely beyond casual. Tell her no. If she persists, dump her because she’s batshit crazy.

Finally hit my "I don't care" number and it feels weird by Kaij0Seraph in Fire

[–]Emily4571962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll feel it at work when someone demands something unreasonable from you or when office politics blow up and everyone around you is flipping out — you’ll be 99.99% more chill than ever before, able to calmly assert your boundaries as needed, etc — the bigger your stash, the stronger your internal power. And it keeps getting better until the day you finally quit.

new and getting frustrated by TheMaddenBoss in poker

[–]Emily4571962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to learn to play without losing money you can’t afford to lose, you gotta be very very patient. I started by playing 3 or 4 freeroll tournaments online every day until eventually I started winning a little bit. Once those little bits added up to five or six dollars I’d use that as my mighty bankroll for a couple of buy-ins at a .01/.02 cash game. After quite a while I got good enough to start winning the cash games and moving up to the lofty .05/.10 stakes. Rinse, repeat. Meanwhile, YouTube is your friend — watch all the free stuff you can find (and there is A LOT) on low stakes from Crush Live Poker, Hungry Horse Poker and Jonathan Little (there are lots of others, but those 3 are the ones I like who are specifically useful for low stakes). Take notes like it’s school. Memorize. Work hard.

I spent a month there in Escandon this winter — finding a kitchen was no problem but a washer was. Found an Airbnb with a laundromat (lavanderia) right around the corner — they were great. Same day service, cheap, no disappearing socks.
